Racism has become a very big problem in Hawaii, but most people don’t care about who they are affecting. People in Hawaii keep continuing to be racist to others. There are a lot of people being affected, not only haoles. They need to start learning how to be respectful and not judge others just because of their race, color, and even where they are from. The racism in Hawaii ranges on different levels such as racial tension, sovereignty activists, and ‘reverse racism’.

Professor John Osorio believes in having sovereignty once more, “...I believe that Hawaiians...had the right to create their own nation in the 19th century...and that they have the right today to have that restored” (Hansen, paragraph 18). Professor Osorio supports the idea of sovereignty in Hawaii and he wants it to happen again. Professor Osorio believes that the native hawaiians should have the island’s sovereignty. The idea of sovereignty has caused problems between the haoles and native hawaiians. Native hawaiians want Hawaii to become a sovereign nation but that’s not the only problem, their is also ‘reverse racism’.
‘Reverse racism’ is another one of the big effects that Hawaii has. “...’reverse racism’...are expressions repeatedly used...to explain the...discrimination...they experience...because of the lack discussion and exploration of what racism is” (Hughes, page 1). As stated above, ‘reverse racism’ is the idea of racism towards the haoles. The haoles think that the discrimination they are experiencing at that point was ‘reverse racism’, but it’s not.
