The qualities of a good teacher:
Passion: This seems to be the most obvious quality for me. Of course you need to love teaching and helping learners grow in order to be effective. Nothing done for a pay-check can be done well and it needs to be considered that teachers lay the ground work for a child’s LIFE, that responsibility should not lie in the hands of someone who is unhappy within their career as a teacher.
Communication: Effective communication is a must. If you are unable to clearly convey a lesson or an idea then how would you expect a leaner to grasp the concepts you are trying to teach.
Role models: It is very important for teachers to be morally sound. Learners (as human beings) tend to lose respect for a person they do not look up to, and I believe once you have lost respect in your classroom it will be difficult to effectively teach your learners.
Discipline: It is no secret that in this day and age corporal punishment is an unaccepted form of discipline in our school system. Positive reinforcement makes learners more inclined to excel in the tasks they are given. Offe...
I must prepare the students for the next grade they are entering, so I must lay the ground work. Each year, a teacher builds off of what the students learned the year before. If I do not teach the students what they need to be taught, I am not only hurting the students, but I am also making the next teacher’s job much more difficult. They will have to go back and reteach information the students should already know. This becomes very difficult as they do not have a good gage of what they students remember from previous years and what all they need to start fresh with. This is why I must be a team player and help the next teacher. I must do everything I can to have my students ready for the next grade and make sure they are learning everything I am teaching throughout the
There are different ways that a teacher can deal with a student’s undesirable behavior. Some of these strategies are: positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, punishment or extinction. The type of r...
Students have different levels of motivation, different attitudes, character and different responses to specific classroom environments and instructional practices. Therefore, the understanding of differences towards instructors to students, the better chance of meeting the diverse learning needs of students. In such a way, corporal punishment is one of the major discipline methods of teaching and moulding a child. Hence, it intends to cause physical pain to a person and also it is commonly inflicted on minors in a home or school settings (Cloud, 2015). However, children have a right and through their rights, the practice of corporal punishment is banned whereas is causes a lot of problem in managing students behaviour. Therefore, introducing
After spending some time reading about effective teaching, I found that one of the key aspects that seemed to come up most was communication. I believe that as a teacher you will need to have a range of communication, interpersonal and group skills. Communication is not just about being able to speak with your students , but also include writing, reading, listening with your eyes and ears, and also body language.( Ornstein, Lasley ,2004) For effective communication a teacher must interact and communicate respect , there should always be respect for the students, Parents, Colleague’s and their network of educational professionals . I feel that listening deeply and giving credit for the student’s contributions will encourage respect from the students, a great example of this can be seen in the (Online course: Becoming a Teacher,2005). The Teacher’s Name is Anne Christodulou, and the communication with her students is continuous, respectful, shows a caring attitude, and provides a model of high ethical standards. Coulson (cited in Killen, 2009) describes: “Effective communicators as teachers that will relate well with students, explain clearly, make their expectations explicit, and engage the students.” I be...
...orce the good behaviour with rewards and decrease the likelihood of negative behaviour being repeated. The structured discipline of both parents and teachers help the child to appreciate that good behaviour is much more beneficial than bad behaviour but without this structure in one or both of these settings, could lead to the child not understanding, leading to it being much more difficult to correct behaviour that isn't wanted without resorting to drastic measures of physical or psychological punishment that would do more harm than good. Further research into helping the children in these sort of circumstances would be much more beneficial to the topic of child behaviour and punishment.
To be an outstanding educator, one must be motivated, engaging, involved, caring, & knowledgeable. Teaching brings aspects of about fifty jobs into one. An outstanding educator is motivated. Each morning, students come into the classroom expecting a teacher that is smiling & ready to begin a great day.
Why hurt a child when you don’t have to? The debate on whether to spank a child or a timeout is more sufficient is more prominent now than it was in earlier times. Today the question is raised whether spanking a child is not only an effective form of punishment or reprimand for a child but also the right and best way to train up a child. Discipline is based on when you discipline a child how you discipline a child and also the mental state of the child. As a child begins to develop and grow that must learn basic rules in their growth.
Positive Discipline is a concept that can be extremely misinterpreted and when it is misused it can cause more harm than good. A common form of discipline for children is punishment and it is widely used because it is the believed to be very effective. “However, discipline comes from the Latin word discipulus or disciplini, which means a follower of truth, principle, or a venerated leader” (Nelson, pg. 15). Punishment in itself is not a positive method nor is it a positive form of leadership to follow or exert. (Quote) By eliminating punishment, using the kind but firm technique, and having mutual respect, child abuse can be significantly reduced or even prevented.
Corporal punishment is the physical disciplinary method used by parents, teachers, and school administrators in an effort to correct a child’s undesirable behaviors. The use of physical force is one that is often times controversial and usually evokes very strong reactions. These feelings surface, and opposing views clash, when scandals surrounding corporal punishment hit the media and heated arguments in the comments section of articles emerge. While corporal punishment occasionally makes its way into the limelight, it is a decision all parents are faced with eventually and often times daily. For example, when a toddler is sprawled out on the grocery store floor kicking, hitting, and flinging
Physical Discipline is Effective Argumentative Essay Children’s behavior in this decade is out of control! Parents don’t know the proper way to make discipline effective; however, there is a way in the physical form know as spanking, Spanking is necessary for children to learn to respect authority and their peers. Also, spanking contributes in better character development. Not only that, “The Bible” tells its readers spanking is essential to raise a well-behaved child and will not kill them.
Now, being a role model doesn’t mean you have to be that teacher that is strict or above their students. You still should be friendly and caring. In the end, not being your students friend will create a better learning
Becoming a teacher has been the ultimate aspiration for myself since the first day I walked into kindergarten. As a very timid student, it was a difficult task transitioning from being with my mother everyday, to being part of a classroom environment full of strangers. However, my kindergarten teacher helped me through this transition smoothly, and adequately. I very quickly learned to love school. Soon after, I knew I would aspire to become a teacher. I would spend countless hours at home with a blackboard, acting as a teacher to my imaginary students throughout my elementary school years.
There are several main characteristics that every teacher needs to have to be a great teacher. A great teacher respects students(Orlando,Web). In every teachers classrooms, every students opinions and ideas are highly valued. Students need to be able to feel safe to fully express their feelings and
My goal as a teacher is to improve my student’s education and help them grow knowledgably. I like to see students at different levels develop with each other and learn. I want to challenge the students and watch them grow to their highest level of education. Therefore, having the students in groups is the best educational strategy I like to use a lot. I want my students to have freedom with whatever creativity they want, and to allow them to express themselves at any time. With this freedom students will be able to experiment with likes and dislikes and be able to figure their weaknesses and strengths. Education is for everyone and it’s a right by low for all; teachers, on the other hand, should do their jobs very honestly and effectively.
One quality that would make me a good teacher is, I am good with kids. I believe a teacher needs to be able to care for the children they are teaching. Also, you should be ecstatic about being able to be an influence on their lives. I like working with kids and like to help them understand things they may not know. When I was in Middle School we did a thing called “Study Buddies.” We would go to the classrooms everyday for the last few periods of the day and help kids read and do their homework. I worked with three kids everyday and they were so genuine and appreciative.
