Think for second, do you, as an individual think on the bright side or the dark side of situations. Optimism describes how an optimistic person is always looking for the best in any situation and expecting good things to happen. Optimism is the tendency to believe, expect or hope that things will turn out well. Even if something bad happens, like the loss of a job, an optimist sees the silver lining. Rather than getting down about it, you learn from it and do better next time. Being an optim itc person could mean many things. To me, it means looking for the good life even if your whole life is crumbling, you always find the good in anyone or anything. Will Smith portrays a character of a homeless father who is struggling to make is boy happy. With love and hope, they battle through the cold nights sleeping outside and the days without food. The first quote states, “Don't ever let someone tell you, you can't do something. Not even me. You got a dream, you gotta protect it. People can’t do something themselves, they want to tell you you can’t do it. You want something, go get it. Period.” (“Pursuit of Happyness”). This quote demonstrates an optimistic culture because Will Smith tells his son to not give up ever even if he wants to. He wants his son to keep trying and to always be a go getter no matter what the consequences are. This whole movie is powerful and has such an amazing message. Here is this single father who has nothing but his son and a few bucks but he never gives up.The second quote states, “Hey dad, you wanna hear something funny? There was a man who was drowning, and a boat came, and the man on the boat said "Do you need help?" and the man said "God will save me". Then another boat came and he tried to help him, but he said "God will save me", then he drowned and went to Heaven. Then the man told God, "God, why didn't you save me?" and God said "I sent you two boats, you dummy!" “Pursuit of Happyness”). The Strength of Optimism by Sharon Esonis is an article all about finding the good in things and what the meaning of Optimism really is all about. The articles has quotes and definitions along with how you can be identified as Optimistic person. The quotes states, “Optimism is a strategy for making a better future. Because unless you believe that the future can be better you are unlikely to step up and take responsibility for making it” (The Strength of Optimism). This demonstrates optimistic culture because the whole article is about that one topic, optimism. It’s about how optimism can affect your state of mind and how people with the trait see situations. This quote says that if you aren't ready for what's to come no matter what that is, you shouldn’t proceed. The last quote states, “The optimist takes credit for the things he has accomplished, savors the victories, and utilizes them as fuel for the ongoing journey of dreams and discovery” (The Strength of Optimism). This quote demonstrates an optimistic culture because an optimistic person takes credit for what they have, the good and bad. They never give or lose up, they always dream to hit the starts and discover the world that is unknown. As a child, most were optimistic, dreaming to be astronauts or a superhero, they dream to be what they want. In conclusion, through the Article, The Strength of Optimism, you can see an
“I now walk into the wild” (3). It was April 1992 a young man from a rather wealthy family hitchhiked to Alaska and walked alone into the wilderness. His name was Christopher McCandless. He gave all of his savings to a charity, abandoned his car in the desert, left all his possessions, burned his money and wallet, and invented an alter ego all to shun society. Four months after his adventure, his decomposing body was found in bus 142 by a moose hunter. Into the Wild is a riveting novel about one man’s journey to find himself and live as an individual. Although, Chris McCandless may come as an ill-prepared idiot, his reasons for leaving society are rational. He wanted to leave the conformist society and blossom into his own person, he wanted to create his own story not have his story written for him, and he wanted to be happy not the world’s form of happiness.
Optimism is a necessary quality for the average person. It allows one to strive for the best and persevere. But, can there be such thing as too much optimism? Can it blind individuals from the harsh truths of the world? The answer to both of these questions is yes; as is exemplified by the novel Don Quixote as well as numerous instances in history, Optimism overshadows the more realistic negative consequences of achieving a dream. Protagonist Alonso Quesada, self-dubbed knight-errant Don Quixote, embarks on a rather ill conceived journey in search of a quest. Upon seeing the windmills as giants, Quixote opportunistically takes advantage of the situation and attacks the harmless contraptions resulting in his inevitable defeat. However, the moment that shows the reader the optimistic
Optimism was an attractive to many because it answered a profound philosophical question: if God is omnipotent and benevolent, then why is there so much evil in the world? Optimism provides an easy way out: God has made everything for the best, and even though one might experience personal misfortune, God (via your misfortune) is still helping the greater good.
“I hope I can make it across the border. I hope I can see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope.” (106)
In life, it is important to be optimistic, and see the glass as half full. Being optimistic means to look at things in a positive way. And it is important to stay optimistic in life. Being an optimist can also be thought of as having lots of hope for the future. Sometimes it is hard to be optimistic when other things in your life are going wrong. But, you have to look past the negatives, and try to see the best in things and keep hope. Penelope and I are both similar because we both stay optimistic in life.
The Joy Luck Club and Fried Green Tomatoes Two novels that I could read over and over again, "The Joy Luck Club" by Amy Tan and "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café" by Fannie Flag. The two novels share similar qualities while conveying their different story lines. "The Joy Luck Club" is a sage about several Chinese mothers and their American-born daughters. It is also about the mothers' experiences with immigrating, and/or their upbringing.
In the poem “Invictus” by William Ernest optimism can be found in the quote “my head is bloody, But unbowed” (2). This show how no matter what negative thing happens in your life, no matter how bad it is you can always make something positive out of it. Optimism can also be seen in the quote “my unconquerable soul” (1). This shows how confident and positive he is about and is showing he puts the negative emotions to ret and just the positive rise and defeats the negative emotions. He only lets the positive in and lets the negative stay outside so nothing can conquer his soul. He thanking the Gods for his "unconquerable soul...
The world, through different means, will always try to degrade people’s existence, but it’s up to us to rise up and act. For Nietzsche, Beauvoir and Voltaire, people should act and take the responsibilities. According to Nietzsche, people give meaning to their life by growing spontaneously, seeking out to say ‘yes’ to life to saturate it with happiness and passion. For Beauvoir, people, especially women, give their life meaning by not condemning to immanence, instead affirming their independence and transcending themselves to justify their existence. As per Voltaire, excessive optimism fades one’s sense of responsibility, taking away his or her freedom to take productive action. For Voltaire, optimism is good only when it compels people to take action, and bad when it forces people into believing that failure is inevitable.
...ng the underlying theme that drives the story and the movie, propels the reader and viewer to rekindle the desire to hope above all else because hope is all one has in devastating as well as dire needs. Hope overcomes despair, permits others to see your “inner light” to develop integrity which connects with honesty and trust. Hope is the inspiration to continue to live regardless of the circumstances. Red may have narrated; “Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.” But, Andy Dufresne states it best: “Get busy living, or get busy dying.”
In this article it is stated that “Hope helps to initiate and sustain action toward long-term goals, including flexible management of obstacles that might interfere with accomplishments” (Parker et al., 2015). Furthermore, “Research and theory has suggested hope to be a critical psychological strength relevant to the process of resilience where resilience is known to be significantly related to subjective well-being.” (Parker et al., 2015). Teaching children that the positive and hopeful approach to every day situations will benefit them in the future can be especially crucial in terms of their self-efficacy. Kostelnik et al., 2015.
With reference to the text, discuss Mustafa Mond’s statement: “ The secret to happiness is liking what you have to do.”
Firstly, people who show an optimism bias feel more happy and satisfied with their life. These people are also more in control of and engaged in their life’s goal, they will not just think about happy thoughts and wait for life to pass, instead they will be engaged in a meaningful life and do whatever it takes to accomplish their goals. They are also less likely to give up on a difficult situation and will cope with it. These are people who will not wait for the rain to pass but who learn to dance in the rain in order to fulfil their life’s goal. Unrealistic optimism shows an increased well-being and happiness. With this increased well-being, unrealistically optimistic people are also more able to pick themselves up after a major life
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Well, what about happiness? Some would say that happiness is simply apart of life, while others feel it is something that one should chase. Nevertheless, in 1981 Chris Gardner a salesman from San Francisco, California in the award winning movie The Pursuit of Happiness had big dreams for his family but things did not turn out the way he intended. However, Christopher Gardner continued to strive and take a chance to chase his happiness even if it took loosing his wife and his home.

The approach is usually lengthy in order to accommodate the attitude of hope for forthcoming conditions evolving as optimal. The vaster concept of optimism is the understanding that all of nature, past, present, and future, functions by the law of optimization. The word optimism originated from the Latin word optimum, which means "best". Optimism is a deposition or tendency to view the more favorable side of events or conditions and to await the more favorable outcomes. Optimism is the belief that good eventually overrules the evil in the world. Also, the belief that goodness defuses reality. Optimism is the attitude that the existing world is the best of all possible worlds. Optimists often have the impulse of making lemonade out of lemons, and then to see the glass as half-full rather than half-empty. Most optimist persistently attributes benevolent motives to others and illustrate situations in the best possible light; others easily just disassociate an internal mood from external situations, no matter how tenacious. A person can be optimistic in devoirs such as expecting his or her relationship with another to be successful. Now on to pessimism, pessimism is the impulse to stress the negative or unfavorable. The belief of pessimism is that this is the worst of all possible worlds and that
