Chat rooms in today’s society can be a good and bad thing. First off what is a chat room? A chat room to me is a place where you can go and talk to people about different things. They have them from preteens up to adults. It is very easy to get into the rooms no matter what age you are. There is no real way for anyone to check if you are of age when using a computer. This makes it simple for me or anyone to get caught up in something that I shouldn’t be doing.
To get connected to a chat room all you have to do is going to yahoo and click on chat. That is how easy it is. Many parents these days didn’t grow up with computers so they don’t know what is going on with them. For this paper I did just that. I went to yahoo and got into a chat room just to see what kind of topics I found. I was shocked to see that there is adult chat and the different rooms they have in there are unreal. For me to get into something like that all I had to do was click my mouse a few times.
For parents that know nothing about computers they should be worried. Having kids playing on the computer I believe parents need to monitor what they do, how long they are on, and who they are talking with. Chat rooms can be dangerous. You don’t hear every day about people doing something crazy through a chat room, but these things do happen.
When searching for information about chat rooms and how they have effect society today, I found many different things. Parents to go online and find places that will record what is being done on the computer. These different things will do anything from seeing who and what is emailed to people to recording what websites people have visited on the computer.
In any normal chat room that kids or adults might obtain on the computer many different things could be said in there. As information on this topic I went into a chat room just to see what kind of things people put on the screen.

Oil provides us with many necessities in our lives. Cosmetics, medicines, cleaning products, asphalt, food, plastic, and most importantly, petroleum. But of course, nothing comes without a price. The oil that makes our lives so much more convenient, is also ironically gradually killing the environment, this very Earth that we live in. One of the biggest environmental concerns come from oil spills. Oil spill is defined as “ the release of a liquid petroleum hydrocarbon into the environment, especially marine areas, due to human activity, and is a form of pollution.” Let’s look at some examples of these oil spills.

Because the litigation system does not accurately judge whether an error was committed in the course of medical care, physicians adjust their behavior to avoid being sued. A recent survey of physicians revealed that one-third shied away from going into a particular specialty because they feared it would subject them to greater liability exp...
As Hanah (2010) claims, many parents grew in society without modern technology as mobile phones or the Internet. Consequently, it can be hard for them to imagine virtual life and they can feel powerless in possible protection of their children in the Internet world. As a result, we can find that the first step for parents should be participating in child’s cyber life. This step requires patience, but it is reasonable. In case, when parents already know how to work with the Internet, they have many possibilities (Hanah, 2010). Firstly, they can find children’s internet accounts and start to monitor their activities; the best way how to do it is to make a virtual friendship with the child. Of course, the good idea would be to inspect children’s other friends. Hanah (2010) claims that parents should use some of traditional methods. They have to choose limits for using of computer in their family. Especially, it will work when they will insist on their conditions, even if their child is not very happy about them.

Technology and things like social media have a great effect on sexual views, behavior and practice among generations. Recent advances in technology are influencing sexual behaviors because of things like computers, smartphones, sex technology (sex toys, pornography, etc.). The list is growing and so are the many possible uses of these technologies. In fact, one in every ten websites is a pornography website, (Krotoski, 2011). This alone gives individuals access to the erotic, fantasy world of sex. These advances in technology, and the availability of this information has made it easier than ever to enter the world of sex.
With technology becoming easier and easier to use and in part due to the high sexual emphasis in the American culture, men and women are being exposed to pornography earlier and earlier, with the average age being about 12 for men and 13 for women (Gilkerson). These children easily keep their internet wanderings secret from their less technologically savvy parents, as about 62% of teens say their parents know little or nothing about the websites they visit (San Diego Court).
The human need for affiliation creates the challenges and rewards of finding acquaintances, forming close friendships, as well as intimate relationships. Through technological advances cyberspace, or the internet, has become a place of multiple opportunities for people to be able to fulfill that need for affiliation. Websites, chat rooms, and online communities are just some examples of virtual platforms for people to seek others, come together, and find that special someone. These opportunities can result in positive outcomes allowing people to achieve what or whom they were seeking, but they can also result in harm to themselves and others, resulting with damaging consequences. Cyberspace does not come with a warning label. People who use the internet as a means to seek relationships are at risk of being exposed to positive as well as negative results. Being made aware of some of those risks and dangers, and realizing that forming relationships on the internet is not all fun and games, may be ways to help promote a positive future for cyberspace as a place to form successful relationships.
In today’s society, much advancement has been made throughout the universe. However, one that seems to stand out in particular is the use of social media. Social media has both positive and negative effects on society. This advancement has led to a difference in communication to everyone by reconnecting with others, or even informing the public nationwide through televisions such as the news or talk shows. However, is social media safe to use? Social media has a great impact on everyone in society. While allowing your children or teenagers to engage in social media a few things to consider are the risks of youth using social media, what age is too young, and also how social media is useful in some cases. Children participate in cyber bullying now and even find themselves involved in bad habits, such as sexting (Schurgin O’Keefe). According to a recent poll conducted, over 22 percent of teenagers log onto their social media site more than ten times a day (Schurgin O’Keefe). Not everything is negative towards social media, but there are precautions that need to be taken when there is the youth involved.
A recent survey from Delen, Kaya, Ritter, & Sahin (2015) found that 81.2 percent of parents limited the time children spent on technology, 71 percent monitored their child’s browsing history, 61.3 percent of parents used a firewall to help protect them, and 54.9 percent used parental controls for monitoring. Constant monitoring has proven to be beneficial in maintaining their children from spending too many hours online, as well as safe from the harms the World Wide Web has. Although many parents are aware of the harm that technology can bring to a child, technological advancements do have many benefits. For example, children are approaching their parents more often to guide them while they search for answers in the Internet to complete their homework. With the parent’s involvement, using computer-based technology shows the child how to correctly navigate online. As stated by Finn and Kerman (2004), “training programs may also help parents and students to increase their confidence level in using Internet technology and take care of security issues with filtering software.” Even though technology has many benefits, it can harm children if their parents are not proactive in their monitoring. According to the Pew Research Center “in 2009 found that 4% of 12–17-year-olds (and 8% of 17-year-olds) who owned cell phones had sent a
“Parents play an important role in the psychosocial development and well-being of their children” (van den Eijnden). Undeniably, the quote makes a bold declaration that all parents in today’s technologically advanced society should understand and follow. With 90% of teenagers between the ages of 12 and 15 using the internet (Sorbring), it is important for an adult to monitor their daily usage and behavior. “Only 39 percent of parents report using parental controls for blocking, filtering, or monitoring their teenager’s online activities” (Dell’anotnia). Parents should monitor their teenagers’ daily internet use and behavior by engaging in meaningful conversations and dialogue that allow for fostering a healthy relationship.
When it comes to having an account online it can get quite dangerous. Not only is it dangerous but having the gadget lying around the house or even having their own at a young age can make it easier for them to have easy access to those social media accounts. Parents need to take precaution with their children and the internet. Meeting someone online is so much more different from meeting them in person. It is hard to tell if people and kids are their real age that they put on their information because you can actually lie about how old you really are. There has been many cases where involving younger girls talking to older men, a 15-year-old can be talking to a
According to a study by Common Sense Media, teenagers in the U.S. are using media an average of 9 hours a day. There is no mystery behind why teens enjoy the internet; it is a wonderful place, with the world's largest libraries, arcades, and stores. Anyone can do anything on the internet; but, with great power, comes great responsibility–something many teens lack. Parents should be protecting their children by monitoring internet usage, in case of internet predators, inappropriate websites, and to prevent cyberbullying.
