In the United States Using waste water, as drinking water is very controversial. There are individuals who agree that agree that it is a good source of water and don’t mind there wastewater being reused. On the other hand, there are other individuals who see this as unhealthy practice and would be disgusted by the though of doing this. Being controversial, many states and cities in The U.S have not taken steps to increase the use of wastewater, which is renewable, as a source of water, causing a greater demand for non-renewable water sources. This is having a great impact on the world as the world population grows.
Renee Cho of state of the planet Blog, a blogs from the Earth Institute says in the opening of his article entitled From Wastewater to Drinking Water, that “Across the globe, 2 out of 10 people do not have access to safe drinking water.” To bring it closer to home, right here, in the U.S, many states and cities are suffering from water shortages and droughts. Robert Glennon in his book Unquenchable: America’s Water Crisis and What to Do About It reports “Americans use 24 gallons of water each day to flush their toilets—approximately 5.8 billion gallons.” Most of this wastewater will not be reused for drinking but instead cleaned to EPA standards of Drinking and then used for other reasons. Cho reports that most of the wastewater is released into rivers and lakes, and some is reused and recycled for” irrigation, landscaping, industry and toilet flushing.” While it may be good to replenish sensitive ecosystems that sustain wildlife, fish and plants who are left vulnerable after water is diverted for the needs of urban and rural communities. We often hear the saying that water is the source of life so how can mankind waste this precious source that God has given us. It is really hard to see how these farmers are spitefully wasting water when it is really needed in the neighboring communities. This goes to show that people only do things to benefit themselves not considering the needs of other people. Not only is water being wasted in developing countries but there is also water wastage in developed countries we often take our water sources for granted here in the US such as not turning off the pipes when brushing our teeth or washing our hands and the list goes on. Water conservation is the key to saving our planet because soon it will become extinct to us human beings.

These things consist of grass clippings, furniture, clothing, batteries, newspapers, food scraps and many other things that are used in our homes, schools, hospitals and businesses (EPA, 2014). It was reported that in 2012 Americans generated almost 251 million tons of trash and only recycled and composted almost 87 million tons (EPA, 2014). Therefore, municipal solid waste is the things we throw away every day.
Water has become a very controversial issue in the United States and around the world. As populations increase and resources decrease, the way we use our resources and keep populations safe become more and more important. Throughout the world there are nearly 1.1 billion people who do not have access the clean drinking water. 5 Most of these 1.1 billion people are located in poor areas and do not have the financial means to build the infrastructures needed to provide water to the citizens of their country. 5 Drinking water is an essential part of our everyday life. People must have water to survive, but it must be clean and safe to consume.

A lot of people think that the world has massive amounts of water available for use; therefore, most roll their eyes when conserving water is mentioned. After all, 71% of the earth’s surface is made up of water. However, the truth is that only 2.5% of that is clean, drinkable water, and two-thirds of that percentage is unavailable because it is stuck in ice caps and glaciers (water). The water ordeal in America is bigger than many realize, and the United States needs to begin looking at how we can solve this issue. The U.S. needs to acknowledge the impending dangers and help the states that are already suffering by putting water conservation methods in place and investing money into research for alternatives.
We do not have any more fresh water in certain areas but in near future will be gone if we keep using the water the way we do. Most of the time we don’t appreciate water just see, in yourself when you are in the bathroom. How much water do you waste in just one day? Is the question I ask every time I go to the bathroom. And then I ask myself if I waste 20 gallons of water a day, how much do I waste in one year the answer is 7300 gallons of water that I used, just me without counting the world’s population water usage, if I count it, well I had do simple math 20 gallons of water times by 7,381,940,300 world’s population will be 147,638,806,000 gallons of water waste in just one single year only used by human beings in our daily needs. Without counting the other ways, we waste water, for example, cooking, drinking, and washing the dishes etc.. As well not counting even the industry, agricultural, and electrical power used and contaminated by the human begins. Water is the main resource of our living; we have it and do not realize how much water we waste. In U.S.A. there are over usage of water in irrigation, agriculture, industry and over usage in residential purposes. According to CBS News report (Strassmann, 2010), average American uses about 150 gallons every day, while Englishmen use 40 gallons, Chinese – 22 and Kenyan - 13 gallons. Strassmann also points out that scientists count, that consumption of water is much more than supply, so that in next three years 36 states will faced the problem of water shortage. Nowadays, Las Vegas, Texas, California, Colorado, Nevada have already run into troubles.

Water scarcity is harmful to human life because when water is poorly managed throughout the world, those who need water are deprived of nutrients they truly need, causing them to die.
