How do you determine who you are? For many people it is by their physical appearance and their personality, but for others it is by how they feel. An example of one of those persons is within our school. His name is Alistair Finkbeiner, known to others as Alison Finkbeiner or Alis. He has determined who he is off of the basis of the gender he feels he resonates most with, as opposed to the sex that he is. This state of being is known to many as transgender. A multitude of complications occur when one is transgender; one of which includes the utilisation of the washroom one identifies with. Non-binary genders are complicated to comprehend, however, it is crucial that efforts are made. Transgender is an umbrella term for people whose assigned gender differs from their gender identity or gender expression. It encompasses people of all non-binary genders such as pangender, agender, gender fluid, bigender, third gender, trasmasculine, transfeminine, and more. Alistair Finkbeiner is transfeminine meaning born as a boy, but identifying as a girl. The complexities of such a state are bountiful.

Reverse discrimination is the process of putting the majority beneath the minority. This truth exists all over the world. Jobs have a certain quota for females in order to ensure that females aren 't being treated as lesser than males. In doing this, society has effectively began to treat females as more than males as opposed to the equals they are. Owing to this quota, male applicants who are more qualified than the woman of greatest qualification, often lose out on the job opportunity, simply because they are male. Promoting symptoms prevents recovery and is unjust. People with gender dysphoria, if treated young enough, can recover. On occasion, children who identified their whole life as the opposite gender grow up to identify as their assigned gender, thus having recovered from their illness. Choose recovery for this student and help him in the long run as having an illness is not a positive concept. This, is an illness and needs treatment as such, not encouragement. Alistair is apt experience severe lows and anxiety if his symptoms face discouragement which could compel one to allow for his symptoms. That said, one would not encourage a person living with anorexia to not eat because they experience the same lows and anxiety. It could kill them, and although gender dysphoria is not as morbid as anorexia nervosa, it requires the same treatment. Alistair has an illness, help
