I will be discussing the values strategic intelligence provides to national policy and decision makers and why it is necessary to cover all five components (SIGINT, HUMINT, IMINT, GEOINT, and OSINT) as an integrated study. I will be discussing each component individually and the positives and negatives of each. Then discussing why they all need to be looked at as one instead of individually.
The first component I will be discussing is SIGINT. Some positives are that is can be done from afar, it can be conducted with out a target knowing, and it is straight from the source. An example of be done from afar is when the aerial platform Guardrail is sent up to conduct aerial collection and the operator is miles away on a base and the collector

This specific INT plays a huge role if not the biggest role in the planning phase of any and all exercises. Knowing the heights of mountains allow you to better understand what type of equipment forces on the ground might need to bring, or what type of aerial platform will be better suited to collect at a specific altitude. Having the knowledge of ocean depths allows us to know what type of ship will best be in the specific area and on the flip side of that what type of ships foreign countries might have in the area. For example if we have a carrier in the ocean and we know its pretty deep then a foreign country might have a submarine in the area which that carrier should know just in case something might happen. I cannot think of any negatives that this INT has other than maybe human error can play in a much larger factor than anything else. A person misreads a scale or a map can lead to false readings and incorrect information, which leads to a bad mission or even, scratched …show more content…
It can and is very biased depending on where the intelligence is coming from. For example if the intelligence is being pushed by a specific diplomatic party news cast then it will be worded to favor that party which can have false misleading intelligence. OSINT can be more than news cast it cover social media sites I can go onto some ones Facebook account and see who there family is, where they are from and are now, what there family looks like, who their friends are and where they go to school all of this is bad for that individual and very dangerous. OSINT is the most used by criminals to target women, children and potential houses to rob. It is also widely used by terrorist organizations to gain intelligence on individuals, companies and capabilities the United States might have. This is by far the biggest downfall to OSINT it is open for any and everyone to see leaving us very vulnerable to our
The National Security Agency or NSA for short is a United States federal government intelligence organization that is used for global monitoring and collecting data. After the attacks on September 11, 2001, President George W. Bush implemented the NSA’s domestic spying program to conduct a range of surveillance activities inside the United States. There has been a lot of controversy surrounding this program as it allows the NSA to tap into the public’s phone calls, cameras, internet searches, text messages, and many other mediums to seek out individuals that may be potential threats to the security of the general public. Many individuals say that the tactics used by the NSA are unconstitutional as they invade people’s privacy. This is primarily
Today, electronic surveillance remains one of the most effective tools the United States has to protect against foreign powers and groups seeking to inflict harm on the nation, but it does not go without a few possessing a few negative aspects either. Electronic surveillance of foreign intelligence has likely saved the lives of many innocent people through prevention of potential acts of aggression towards the United States. There are many pros to the actions authorized under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) pertaining to electronic surveillance, but there are also cons. Looking at both the pros and cons of electronic surveillance is important in understanding the overall effectiveness of FISA. [1]
“President Bush has stated that about a hundred detainees were held under the Central Intelligence Agency secret detention program, about a third of whom were questioned using “enhanced interrogation techniques. The CIA has a way of very publicly blowing their cover seeming to pop up wherever turmoil, and political problems arise. The CIA exists to prevent threats, its operations involve covert actions or spying through various means to gather critical intelligence data. The CIA dates back to 1947. The qualifications and skills are above average. The job of the CIA is to anticipate and quickly assess rapidly evolving international developments and their impact, both positive and negative, on US policy concerns. When researching the career of
As technology continues to advance at lightning speed, the world as we used to know it is beginning to disappear. Publically available data has replaced much of the espionage tactics that the CIA depended on after WWII and into the Cold War. Information that used to take years to obtain through covert missions is now readily available on social media, commercial databases, or through Signals intelligence (SIGINT). As the world becomes more technologically advanced and intelligence sources display new opportunities, the Intelligence Community (IC) has been there to exploit the data to gain the upper hand on the enemy, and support decision makers. Advancements in technology have made the IC what it is today, however, the path of learning the correct methods of exploitation is littered with abuses. In the 1950’s and 60’s, the CIA’s newest technology was a proposed mind control drug, and project MK-ULTRA was born. The Central intelligence Agency (CIA) performed rogue tests on an unknowing public without their knowledge and severely tainted the image of the agency. In 2013, the public found out about the National Security Agency’s (NSA) Top Secret PRISM program that obtained the phone and internet records of the public without their consent. These two programs were separated by decades, yet the similarities are undeniable. Both MK-ULTRA and PRISM resulted in intelligence oversight reforms aimed at managing these types of operations before they occur. While the government does not always have the ability to foresee how advancements in technology will affect the public, intelligence oversight mechanisms over the past 20 years provide the necessary safeguards that are needed to protect each American’s privacy, provide for th...

Intelligence has come a long way since the time around 1,000 B.C. as Egyptian hieroglyphs have revealed and will only continue to grow far into the future. The Intelligence community (IC) will run into challenges far into the future but over the next several years it will be budgetary restructuring/cuts, cyber security implementation, and preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction because a transitional phase within the United States will impact intelligence operations. The intelligence community is likely to transition back to its pre-9/11 requirements thus hindering or withdrawing post 9/11 implementations and requirements.
The 2020 design desktop software provides three choices to purchase. The first option is the 2020 design essentials which costs $1845 for the program and one-year license. $650 are required to renew the license. The first option only provides basic catalog access. The second option, for Counter Intelligence-AZ, is the 2020 design complete for $2995. The second option includes full access to the cabinet catalogs as well as basic catalogs. There remains the $650 fee for the one-year renewal regardless of which option is chosen. The last option is 2020 design complete and closet for $3490 which include all the complete option and closet design catalog access. The good news for Counter Intelligence-AZ is they maintain the hardware needed to operate

The history of the private intelligence goes all the way back to the Civil war with Allan Pinkerton and his company Pinkerton National Detective Agency. Pinkerton provided these services to Abraham Lincoln. Ever since then the outsourcing of US intelligence services has been an option that is often used. Most generally speaking the type of intelligence that is often outsourced is the OSINT or better known as Open Source Intelligence. The often cited benefit of the contracting of intelligence operations to the private industry is that the private industry is a change from the highly centralized counterpart within the US government. After the 9/11 Commission report cited many problems within the current intelligence community congress set out to remedy the problem.
This is an essay about the different theories of intelligence; it will discuss which theory is best at determining intelligence in my opinion. The information provided will help describe the pros and cons of each of the theories being used to define intelligence, explain why is it important to assess children’s intelligence, and discuss the type of intelligence I possess. The different theories of intelligence are complex and understanding the elements of each can help an individual choose the one that they believe is the best for determining intelligence. Comparing the positive and the negative elements of each theory of intelligence will allow an individual to see both sides of the theory and the flaws that may be twisted
Strategic issues have been defined as ‘environmental trends and possible events that may have a major and discontinuous impact of the firm’ and early research focused on identifying and assessing these important phenomena (Ansoff, 1975, p. 24-25, 1980). Later scholars introduced the concept of strategic issue diagnosis: the evaluation and infusion with meaning of environmental data with the intent of generating organizational momentum to respond (Dutton & Duncan 1987b; Dutton et al., 1983; Dutton & Jackson, 1987), a process that involves the following steps (Julian & Ofori-Dankwa, 2008). Decision makers scan the environment in attempts to detect signals of potential importance to the firm, collating and reifying a variety of related stimuli into a “strategic issue” (Dutton et al., 1983). This issue joins similar issues in the “strategic issue array,” the list of different strategic issues being potentially considered at any given time (Dutton & Duncan, 1987a; Dutton, 1997). Based upon their interests, beliefs and inclinations, different individual executives and managers, as well as groups, attempt to sell, promote and champion a particular strategic issue’s significance by means of different diagnoses (Dutton & Ashford, 1993; McMullen et al., 2009). By means of analysis and negotiation, the upper echelon of the firm comes to a more or less commonly agreed upon diagnosis of the issue in question as to its nature and possible effects (Dutton et al., 1983; Dutton, 1993, 1997). Once more or less established, the strategic issue’s diagnosis influences the formulation and implementation of a response, which may unfold over time and which itself may lead to further altered diagnoses (Dutton, 1997; Chatto...
Strategic Planning for "Doing it for Jesus Bookstore " Strategic planning cause one to be dedicated working towards having a successful business. Being a Christian and having a relationship with God, one day when praying to the Lord about having extremely bad financial problems He spoke to me and said, "As a carpenter I used my hands to work. " God is tired of giving His people visions for businesses that fall through because we do not follow through.
The Central Intelligence Agency’s main responsibility is stated in its Vision statement: “We will provide knowledge and take action to ensure the national security of the United States and the preservation of American life and ideals” (www.cia.gov). The CIA’s job is to provide pertinent, timely, and un-biased foreign intelligence. They also act as an unseen force by conducting undercover action as ordered by the President in order to preempt threats or achieve objectives of the United States. The CIA is the only intelligence organization that is not subject to cabinet prerogative, making it reliable in it is unbiased in its reports, because it has no political agenda. There are six main types of intelligence by which the CIA collects information. Human intelligence (HUMINT) is information gathered by field operatives through overt and covert techniques (www.cia.gov). Communications intelligence (COMINT) is acquired from intercepted foreign communications (www.cia.go...
“There is nothing worse than a sharp picture of a fuzzy concept,” states Adam Ansel. In this book, Strategic Thinking: A Four Piece Puzzle, it describes focus as a requirement for success. Focus is not an easy concept; it is a learnt concept, just like success. This book illustrates ways to enhance focus and achieve business success. Incorporating some of these techniques, would be beneficial for me to integrate into my organization one day. Specifically setting key success factors, and only a few, is key to every stage in a business. With an entrepreneurial spirit, it would be expected that I would have to create a set of key success factors for my company.
The purpose of performing the strategic direction is to identify the set of strategic and operational issues that face the organization in order to sort them in terms of priority and find the way to solve them. (Bryson and Alston 2011, 137) Strategic direction provides context for more specific decisions about the organizational policies, strategies, and programs. Most important, it gives a background for decision-making about the distributions of resources.
