The Pros And Cons Of Robots

¬¬¬Introduction

A Robot is a mechanical or an implied simulated agent, for example an electro-mechanical device which is led by a computer program r an electronic circuit. Such technologies handle with automatic devices that can work instead of humans in hazardous and dangerous environments, or have a high resemblance with humans in physical appearance/manners.

Robots have already substituted for humans in the helping of completing duties which are repetitive and hazardous , which humans prefer not t do , or the ones which are unable to be completed due to various reasons such as limitations of size or unreachable locations such as the bottom of a sea or an ocean. But also there are a number of increasing concerns regarding the usage of robots in the society. The main reason being an increase of rising unemployment because they d replace the workforce in various functions. The usage of robots in military attack also has been raising ethical related concerns. The possibility of a potential robotic autonomy has been discussed in many fictional stories, but may grow up to become a realistic concern in the near future.

Cartesian Co-ordinate Robot

A Cartesian co-ordinate robot or commonly known as a linear robot is an industrial robot which has principally three different control axes which are linear. Which means that the three axes move in a straight line, and not rotational. Also they are at 90 degree right angles to each other. Another type of Cartesian robot where the horizontal member is supported at both the ends are known as “Gantry Robots”. There are usually very large....

Degrees of freedom

Kinematic Analysis

The total degree of freedom for a closed loop mechanism is given by;

F = 3(n-1) – Σ (3-fi)

Where; n: Number of Links in the robot. i: Number of Joints in the robot. fi: Degree of freedom of each joint.

F = 21 – 18 = 3 DOF

The working range of the robot is 360 degrees depending on the diameter. Each link is 90 degrees to each other.

Advantages Disadvantages
Light weight having low moment of inertia. Only 3 degrees of freedom
This robot can withhold high-speed tasks. Constrained to rotational movement.
Low manufacturing costs.
Possible to attach 4th degree of freedom allowing extension and compression.

A concept of additional degree of freedom is used in the world’s fastest pick and place robot, The Adept Quattro.
