Firstly, prostitution is bad. According to Aziza Ahmed journalist at foreign policy magazine shares that the “coalition trafficking women” contends that “sex work is a dangerous phenomenon that routinely violates women rights and perpetuates their subordination to men.” Thus, as you see legalizing prostitution will not address the real problem. Ahmed goes on to say that there is no difference between sex work and human trafficking. Both control people with the purpose of making money. Therefore, the demand for sex workers will not be effected. Ahmed also shares a horrifying statistic that in the tiny country of Cambodia there are up to 100,000 “trafficked” women and children. Thus, the demand for sex workers is high. Secondly, we can get rid of prostitution by making it legal. Ahmed shares a successful model used in Sweden, Norway, and Iceland. In this model the clients are charged with breaking the law, instead of the sex workers. Therefore, this is positive evidence that prostitution can be made illegal. Ahmed also states that Germany has also bought the successful model making the johns and clients criminals. Thus, as clients and johns are arrested this will help to stop prostitution.
