In 1998, Paul O’Hara had been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his former girlfriend. O’Hara’s girlfriend had reported to have been waiting for the bus when he brutally attacked her from behind and stabbed her to death. After serving only 14 years of his life sentence, O’Hara was let out of prison only to attack once more when he murdered his next girlfriend. O’Hara burst into Cherylee Shennan’s home and stabbed her to death as well (Daily Mail). O’Hara had been sentenced to 12 years in prison, as well as a life term for murder (BBC News). Considering this information, there are still multiple people in this world who presuppose inmates should be allowed out of prison for good behavior. Anybody can put on an act and show exemplary behavior, but can a true offender keep from reoffending once let out? In 2000, Shawn Corbally was sentenced to 25 years in prison after brutally attacking and raping an Indianapolis woman. In February of 2013, Corbally had been found guilty for attacking a woman in her own bed, then only served half of his original prison sentence. Due to good behavior, Corbally spent just half of a 25 year sentence before he was released back into the world. Corbally was sentenced to 45 years on an account of six felonies for a total of 270 years, and he could have faced an extra 20 years on top of this.
