Nanotechnology
Nanotechnology has been a groundbreaking new field of science for years now introducing many new forms of materials stronger, lighter, and more durable than any others before. Nanoscale particles in many things such as the polymer materials for baseball bats, tennis rackets, motorcycle helmets, and power tools can make them work harder than people ever thought, but just like many other things, the better it seems the more consequences it has the potential to have. With all the positives to nanotechnology there will always be a negative, but if regulated correctly can we lessen the downsides of it? With nanotechnology they can imitate some of the biological processes in nature, such as the fundamental properties of DNA, to engineer new brand methods and perhaps even vastly improve old ones. Scientists are discovering that protein-based drugs are very useful because they can be taken apart and reprogramed to deliver specific signals to cells that could do things from change the color of someone’s eyes to telling cancerous cells to stop dividing. The problem with conventional delivery of such drugs is that the body breaks most of them down before they reach their destination. So with the use of this new form of delivery the vitamins and minerals essential to human life can be delivered more efficiently and the amount more precise. Nanoparticles have begun to aid in the cleanup of disasters such as the BP oil spill. It has started a medical revolution by creating all new forms of medicines and the delivery of human essentials in the body that are more efficient than before. In industry it has created new materials that work harder and better than before like tennis rackets and motorcycle helmets to things like water resistant clothing to space craft fractions lighter. The technology can make them work harder than people eve thought, but just like many other things, the better the technology seems the more consequences it has the potential to have. In the article “Pinpointing Cancer Fight,” Liz Szabo states the uses of nanotechnology and how researchers are attempting to use this advancement to fight cancer. She defines that nanotechnology is a type of technology that creates devices on an atomic level; this equipment can allow people such as researchers to use its ability to detect cancerous cells as well as treat them. Technology is supposed to be seen as such an advancement and great accomplishment. What others may not always know is sometimes it isn’t all fun and games, it can be dangerous. As seen when we created the atomic bomb and guns, their only purpose is to destroy and cause pain to others. Although they are not always in use, they are a constant threat to our well being. We need to take into consideration the positives and the negatives of the technology we create today.

This will even be further refined and we will simply print out replacement parts as needed using a modified 3-d printer similar to what we have today. Whether printed or grown this advancement will have the potential to extended human life well beyond what we currently think the limits are. The pros for this advancement would be simply that what we consider life altering diseases or accidents would simply be a temporary condition until replacement parts are either printed or grown and then used to replace the defective areas. This has a clear potential to end several common modern conditions and allow people a normal life beyond what we can manage today. Cons to this advancement are numerous but the most apparent is when we combine genetic manipulation and this technology we can produce genetically superior body parts. Thus, the human condition we have at birth will be thrown out and replaced with something beyond our imagination. This also has a con in that as with genetic manipulation towards a superior human if someone had an ulterior motive they could in fact insert a type of gene marker that if activated could potentially kill the recipient or be used to control a person through either overt blackmail or covert control. AS is the case with all advancements we have looked at thus far we would need to manage this one and ensure the safety of anything being used to replace a body part is not modified to the detriment of the person receiving the replacement

Genetically modified organisms are created for a variety of reasons such as agricultural production and scientific research (Genetically). These unnatural modifications may negatively damage the health of entire ecosystems. Many years before modified organisms were popular, few people had common allergies like peanuts or bees. Many scientists infer genetically modified products elicit allergic reactions as a result of adjusted homeostasis. Furthermore, scientists theorize toxin levels in organisms may become dangerous for human consumption if modified further by genetics. A plant with adjusted genes may be proven to have a lesser value nutritionally since certain components may become indigestible through the process. Antibiotic resistance is another issue as well. Recently, scientists have taken note of the increasing resistance to certain scientific procedures. These occurrences are evident that genetic modifications are used too commonly.
