Love is not a choice. We do not choose who we give our hearts to. Many people can attest to this. Emily Dickinson wrote "That love is all there is, Is all we know of love." Love is a feeling that no one has the power over and love is a feeling that conquers all. Anyone who has tried to conquer or control love has failed. Love does not listen to laws, science, societal gender, religion, social class, or race. Love is its own entity that can give human beings the biggest high they have ever felt, and also make them feel the most immense pain known to mankind. If love is all of these things and more, than love certainly is not going to be stopped by gender. To love gender is just a small hill to be climbed with new diversities on the other side. …show more content…
Traditional Family Property (TFP) Student Action states that "It is in the child’s best interests that he be raised under the influence of his natural father and mother"(2), which states that the entire adoption program itself is wrong. The problem is the facts say otherwise. A July 2010 study found that children of gay fathers were "as well-adjusted as those adopted by heterosexual parents." A longitudinal study published in Pediatrics on June 7, 2010 found that children of lesbian mothers were rated higher than children of heterosexual parents in social and academic competence and had fewer social problems. As much as people keep claiming the child will be harmed emotionally in a same sex marriage or relationship, the facts point to the truth. Homosexual couples make great parents, sometimes even better …show more content…
The reason this is so hard to understand for individuals and as society is because it dives into a religious background. This becomes almost an impossible challenge because everyone is at different places and ranges with religion. However, no matter how religious or non-religious you are, you cannot state that God, Brahman, Jesus, Buddah, Allah or any other worthwhile figures of religion can state that their "leader" promotes evil. Love on the other hand is promoted by all of these. Kindness and compassion is supported by all of these religions. Love is the opposite of evil by definition. Derek Jarman an English film director, stage designer, artist, and writer, makes an inspirational quote saying “Understand that sexuality is as wide as the sea. Understand that your morality is not law. Understand that we are you. Understand that if we decide to have sex whether safe, safer, or unsafe, it is our decision and you have no rights in lovemaking.” The bluntness and honesty of it all comes down to the basic law that there should always be a separation of church and state. This claim is made by one of the most historical documents in modern history, The Constitution of the United States. The establishment clause prohibits the government from passing legislation to establish an official religion or preferring one religion over another. It enforces
Discrimintaion and equality in society is faced amongst people every day. One certain subject that seems to get most of this attention is whether or not homosexual couples should be able to adopt. Same sex couples should be able to adopt children for many reasons. Children that are raised by same sex parents are predominantly taught to be more open minded, have a greater sense of tolerance, and are thought of to be role models for equality in relationships and life. Most would say that these children will face issues regarding their parents sexual orientation, but this is not so. Children of same sex parents have studied to show very few differences in achievement, mental health, and social function as a child that is raised in a heterosexual household. Same sex parents will allow their child to express themselves through different talents and other attributes that there child seems to be indulged in. These children are often showing more loving, nurturing ,and outgoing behaviors that is exposed to them through gay parenting.
In recent years, same-sex relationships have become more encompassing in US society. State legislation is changing such as accepting gay marriages, enforcing anti-discrimination laws, and legal gay adoptions; the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community is becoming public. Gay-headed families, like heterosexuals, are diverse and varying in different forms. Whether a created family is from previous heterosexual relationships, artificial insemination, or adoption, it deserves the same legal rights heterosexual families enjoy. Full adoption rights needs to be legalized in all states to provide a stable family life for children because sexual orientation does not determine parenting skills, children placed with homosexual parents have better well-being than those in foster care, and there are thousands of children waiting for good homes.
Out of fifty states, only sixteen states allow gay adoptions while people in the other thirty-four states are either denied or sent to court to be determined by a complete stranger with no background information on the couple, whether or not they can take care of a child or not. According to “LGBT Adoption Statistics”, in 2012, 110,000 adopted children live with gay parents. Of the total amount of children in U.S. households, less than one percent lives with same-sex parents. If homosexuals were allowed to adopt, that one percent would rapidly increase. Sexual orientation of parents is not important when it comes to raising children; how the children are being raised and how the parents work together is what is truly important.
All of the research to date has come to the same conclusion about lesbian and gay parenting. “The children of lesbian and gay parents grow up as successfully as the children of heterosexual parents. In fact, not a single study has found the children of lesbian or gay parents to be disadvantaged because of their parent’s sexual orientation” (American Civil Liberties Union, 1999, p.2). Other findings show that there is no evidence to state that lesbians and gay men are unfit to be parents. Home environments of lesbian and gay parents support their child’s development just as heterosexual parents. Good parenting is influence by a parent’s ability to create a loving and nurturing home. Finally, children of lesbian and gay parents grow up as happy and healthy as children of heterosexual parents. In addition, the lesbian and gay “baby boom” will have a tremendous effect on the next generation. In reality, they will be raising their children who will be attending the same schools, playing in the same playgrounds, and leaving us to deal with this new level of diversity (American Civil Liberties Union, 1999, Lev, p.2).
Firstly, most agencies only allow married couples to adopt a child. In addition, in 2010, nearly 96 percent of babies is adopted by lesbian co-mothers while adoption of mixed-gender couples occupies just 4 percent. Instead of surrogacy and artificial insemination, both lesbian and gay couples are in high demand for adopting babies or children. Besides,a research of Ellen C. Perrin (2002) proved that the children, who are adopted by homosexual or heterosexual, have the same toy, game, style, friends, etc. In other words, personality, lifestyle, interior life, behaviors, gender identity, and sexual orientation of children do not depend on the gender of their parents. Consequently, it is undoubted that a child being cared for in a same-gender married family that this child will receive tangible and intangible things is better than in foster-care
As previously stated the issue of same sex adoption is one of the most controversial topics in today’s Family Law across the country and with good reason. Given that this involves the upbringing of human beings who are the future of our society, it is extremely important to make sure that they are given the best care and best influences in their lives in order to make good moral and educated decisions in their future lives. Same sex parenting may not be as bad as society has made it seem but it absolutely has to be socially and scientifically proven before any more steps are taken in this matter because, after all, it is in the “best interest of the child.”
Homosexuality is becoming more and more accepted and integrated into today’s society, however, when it comes to homosexuals establishing families, a problem is posed. In most states, homosexuals can adopt children like any other married or single adult. There are many arguments to this controversial topic; some people believe that it should be legal nationally, while others would prefer that is was banned everywhere, or at least in their individual states. There are logical reasons to allow gays to adopt children, but for some, these reasons are not enough. The main issue really is, what is in the best interest of the child? This type of problem isn’t really one with causes, effects, and solutions, but one with pros and cons. Like any other adoption situation, a parent prove themselves to be responsible and capable enough to raise a child on their own, or with a spouse.
The Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System Report there were about 423,773 children in foster care in the United States only a couple of years ago (Watson). Each foster child in the system should have a chance at adoption so to deny gay couples the right to adopt is not only heartbreaking for both the child and the gay couple but also unconstitutional. A requirement of being a parent shouldn’t focus on a person’s sexual orientation; it’s not an aspect that should matter. The main things to look for when evaluating a person’s worth as a parent should be whether the person is caring, devoted, and stable. An example is Jon Campbell and Danny Stewart, found a recently-born baby on a subway and adopted the baby, thinking that it might be their only chance in adopting a child. Another example of how much gay couples value having children is shown by Bircher, a 44-year-old hair salon owner, when he said, "Our prisons are full of people who were in foster care, and those people were in, quote unquote, straight family homes, if I can provide a loving, stable home for my little boy, that 's the goal" (Watson). These articles show how much gay couples value having children and it shows that they could great parents, despite irrational arguments against them
“Relationships form the foundation of all our experience; they shape us from the moment we are born through the moment we die. Relationships happen. They form regardless of our intentions, they are as effortless as breathing. Yet a relationship that strengthens you can be the most elusive thing in the world, hiding always in your own shadow. To truly know someone, to create a relationship that feeds your spirit, you must open yourself up, become vulnerable, be a child in awe and fear. This is the most terrifying thing, more frightening than any disaster, any harm that may be visited upon us. And yet, to let go, to dive into that fear, gives life meaning. It is the most exquisite joy, and the greatest triumph of human life.” This quote by an unknown author displays truth and insight into human relationships.
When love is present it is what matters most, no obstacle is too big to overcome when hate does not exist. For instance, in an omnipotent perspective¬—through the eyes of religion—God had shown his eternal and unconditional love with no consequences before sin was created. There are many classes of love; a mother’s love, self-love, puppy love, everlasting love, love towards parents, and more. These vary to each relationship you have with others. Puppy love is something you experience similar to lust. It usually occurs when an adolescent experiences their “first love” and have an intense but shallow attachment to their partner. Its value is meaningless compared to love for family because there is a deeper connection between the parents, children, and siblings. Yet, even these types of love can be demeaned if hate enters the picture. Love and Hate is a cycle in every part of a relationship.
Some people believe that there is no such thing as “true love” they believe that love is nothing but an illusion designed by social expectations. These people believe that love ultimately turns into pain and despair. This idea in some ways is true. Love is not eternal it will come to an end one way or another, but the aspect that separates true love from illusion, is the way love ends. “True Love” is much too powerful to be destroyed by Human imperfection; it may only be destroyed by a force equal to the power of love. Diotima believed that “Love is wanting to posses the good forever” In other words love is the desire to be immortal and the only way that we are able to obtain immortality is through reproduction, and since the act of reproduction is a form of sexual love, then sexual love is in fact a vital part of “True love”. Sexual love is not eternal. This lust for pleasure will soon fade, but the part of love that is immortal, is a plutonic love. You can relate this theory to the birth of love that Diotima talks about. She says that love was born by a mortal mother and immortal father. The mother represents the sexual love, the lust for pleasure. The father represents the plutonic love that is immortal. Plutonic love is defined as a true friendship, the purest of all relationships. A true plutonic love will never die; it transcends time, space, and even death.
In one of Robert Brault’s books he wrote, “To find someone who will love you for no reason, and to shower that person with reasons, that is the ultimate happiness.” (“Quotations About Love.”) This quote shows that love is selfless and that it’s different for everyone. No individual has the same experience with love or the same feelings when having that love in their life. Uniquely, love is an uncontrollable, unconditional, safe, and unexplainable feeling that is felt differently for everyone in the world.
Some say Love is a person’s psychological strength which makes the person stronger through the harmonization of the personality, through obtaining a constant source of positive emotions. Meaning loving something makes you stronger and a better person because your are willing to put yourself on the line for something or someone else’s benefit. But that 's not necessarily true. Sometimes people can’t let go because of love and end up making others suffer greatly. Or they can’t share the love and end up killing it . The passion behind love is sometimes taken too far, often times being a bad thing. Remember that love is experienced in many different ways. I believe that love is a cool thing to give and receive you just need to be careful of it. If you do it right you can use love as a resource of happiness. That love can come from a
The idea within this article is an interesting age old practice of how to treat one another. I was always taught as a child to treat others the way that I would want to be treated. On a higher level of thought I have been taught to follow the Bible and choose the right moral path as following the example of doing what Jesus expects us to do. However, the world seems to be pulling away from the religious teachings of Christianity and with it the practice of treating each other morally correct. I was once one of these people who pulled away from this practice. But, in the last couple of years I have come to the realization that I did not like the person that I was becoming and I definitely did not want to teach my children to act that way. So I had to relearn these attributes that the world had taught me to turn a blind eye to.
Adopting children in that environment would lack both mother and father figure in their life. For example, “Children without a father figure would have higher risks of early sexual activity and teen pregnancy; however, children without a mother figure deprive emotional security and unique advice that mothers provide (Pro Con).” The question is raised, should adopted children be reared and educated into a lifestyle that isn’t natural before they are old enough to understand the discrepancies? Young children that grow up in same-sex marriage environment may experience confusion and embarrassment in public surroundings; likewise, young adults and teenagers who have family members or who are personally members of the LGBT community may experience embarrassment and unusual social pressure. Children in a stable family with both mother and father figure would provide the best environment for them to mature and be responsible. Some same-sex family dynamics are from previous heterosexual marriages; therefore, this could affect the relationship between children and the immediate family members. Being part of the LGBT community could influence immediate and extended family on whether they accept or reject their relationship to the
