The article above “Modern-Day Witch Hunts” would fit greatly into Perspective. I agree with this article in the fact that Muslims have been treated unfairly since 9/11. I have heard many people say back home that Muslims were responsible for the plane crashing into the World Trade center. America practices the right to the freedom of religion. So why is building a public mosque in America causing so much controversy? There are ways to go about this respectively. If Americans are offended with the naming of this structure, they should have meetings with the New ...
Discrimination Imagine being discriminated against anyplace you went, with glares from many and you haven’t done anything to receive those judgments. Muslim Americans in the U.S. have to deal with that discrimination every day post the events that happened on 9/11. Some take drastic measures, such as changing their birth name, in hopes that they can avoid being judged by others. Muslim teenager Alisha, told her story that while visiting Six Flags with her family, an American man yelled at her father with the racial comment, “F**k you Osama!” She would also get asked offensive questions, like if she hated Jews too.
However, for the proponents of the construction of the mosque, the decision represented a commitment by the America to respect the freedom of exercise of religion protected by the fourth amendment of constitution of the United States. Sixty eight percent of all Americans were opposed to the constriction of the mosque .A complacent and polarized media helped perpetuate some false ideas about the construction of the mosque in lower Manhattan at the height of the debate (Gladstone).
Islam is a monotheistic and Abrahamic religion alongside Judaism and Christianity. It is currently the second largest religion in the world today. Its beliefs come from the Qur'an which literally means "the recitation" which is believed to be a literal transcription of the word of God. Its main prophet is named Muhammad who began Islam by speaking with the angel Gabriel in a cave during his meditation and then acting as an instrument of God to help write the Qur’an. Muhammad then spread Islam to the scattered tribes of Arabia by becoming the leader of Yathrib and using his wonderful leadership abilities to then grow his influence over virtually all of Arabia. Muhammad is known by Muslims to be the seal of the profits because no profits after Muhammad should be considered legitimate. Muhammad also left behind the Hadith or “tradition” which is a collection of writings compiled of reports of Muhammad’s actions as leader of Yathrib. These reports are used as a more specific code of ethics in day to day life and from these reports the 5 Pillars of Islam are derived (Smith 160). Although Islam shares many similarities to Judaism and Christianity it is often viewed in the US with hate derived from preconceived notions following the attack on September 11th 2001. This paper seeks to provide an overview of Islam’s history as well as its two major sects and 5 main pillars to remove preconceived notions and provide a glance into the minds of the Islamic people.
Islam is a based on the ministry of Muhammad, peace be unto him and the words spoken to him by Allah through an angel, Gabrielle. I learned a lot from Woodlands Junior School and Allah’s Word. I wanted to have a brief overview of Islam, not specific religious teachings. These websites included Islam’s basic beliefs and rituals. They also defined the Qur’an and the significance of Muhammad, peace be unto him. A brief description of the 6 main beliefs that Muslims have was also outlined.
Islam in America has historically been misunderstood, and this is due to the misconception of culture and religion as well as lack of education and incorrect portrayal in the media, which gives a skewed idea of Islam. Especially in the United States, Islam has been seen as the “terrorist religion” or a religion for the extremists and a religion in which freedom is not an option. Among the countless misconceptions, the basis of stereotypes by Americans is due to the mix up between religion and culture. Furthermore, the media only fuels fire to these misunderstandings and lack of factual information about Islam causing Americans to lash out on American Muslims without reason.
Many non-muslims after 9/11 have judged and criticized Muslims for their ethnic, religion, and the Islamic terrorist groups in America. (4) Surprisingly, most Muslim Americans in our population are completely against Isis. Together as a country, we must create more unity and peace within Muslim communities in the United States. Building Mosques for Muslims is a great way to bring communities together! A Mosque is a Muslim place of worship like a church. (1) The first Mosque structure built in America, was in North Dakota, 1929.”The number of Mosques built in the United States has risen up to seventy-four percent since 2000 and there are over two-thousand Mosques built today. (1) “Mosques help Muslims integrate in U.S. society, and in fact have a very productive role in bridging the differences between Muslims and non-Muslims in the United States.” Mosques encourage social and political speech. (5) “Many American Muslim leaders and non-Muslim organizations have spoke out against terrorism and extremist violence.” Working together to prevent terrorism plays an important factor in uniting Muslims and non-Muslims. American will continue to help increase unity with Muslims and non-Muslims across our

Islam is a monotheistic religion that follows the scared text called the Qu'ran. Born in 570 C.E., Muhammad was believed to be a messenger and prophet of god. In 610 C.E., Muhammad claims that he was visited by the Angel Gabriel and experienced his first revelation from god. Three years later, Muhammad started preaching stating that “God is One” and that he was a prophet. Once Muhammad gained a few followers, he sent some of his followers to Abyssinia.
