Fast food is a cheap and quick way to receive something to eat. Fast food is normally accompanied by soda and this dynamic duo has caused a variety of different health issues throughout the world, but mainly in developed countries. Fast food items, such as burgers and fries are loaded with: calories, fat, sodium and sugar. This has caused the rate of obesity and other diseases to skyrocket and its counterpart, soda, has also contributed to these health related illnesses. The government should not be able to tell you what you can and cannot eat but, the government should somewhat be able to implement a policy or a special tax on fast food and soda to reduce the consumption of it. Another thing that the government could do is educate the public …show more content…
An easy solution to this is to make meals in preparation for the week. By doing this, you will have a full week of healthy meals already made. Another argument is that fast food establishments contribute greatly to the amount of jobs on the market. This may be true, but these people could work at places that serve healthier food or other places. Though many people argue that they cannot buy healthy food because it is more expensive than fast food, a person could use coupons and buy the cheaper brands to save money. Lastly, for the people who live in rural areas around the United States, they could grow their own garden and can create healthy food choices, which are free. Therefore, the government should not get rid of all fast food restaurants, but limit the amount of restaurants in a city. Furthermore, the public needs to be educated on what they are consuming and informed of the health effect. Also the calories and ingredients need to be listed at fast food restaurants, so the public can see what they are actually eating. By doing this, the government is able to somewhat regulate what the public eats, but can not force them to simply stop eating what they want to
We hear it all the time, regarding how fast food is bad for our health, and yet we continue eating it. Life doesn’t slow down and sometimes it is just much easier and better for you timewise to just go through the drive through. In the article “Fighting the Fast Food Habit: Can America Downsize?” it basically says that even though most of the fast food chains and food suppliers are trying to decrease the unhealthy options on their menus, it is too late for it because of our eating habits. We want the unhealthy food. Companies are going to market to what the consumer wants. That’s how they make their profits. To sum it all up, companies are food options it a little healthier, but not for us, they only do as much that is needed for people to keep buying it and still feel like they are eating a little healthier. (Garcia 94) Just because a company says they are making changes doesn’t mean you’re eating healthy. It simply means they are making the food and drinks people are consuming a little healthier, however, it still shouldn’t be considered healthy. They do what they have to do to make money. All in all, you should consider eating less fast food and work toward adopting some good eating
Imagine how bad you would feel having difficulty getting out of bed every day. This is what fast food does to you and why I believe fast food outlets should be closed down. This arguments three points to support this statement are that firstly fast food can cause health problems. Secondly, it makes you feel bad about your body, and finally they take money from the most vulnerable.
The fast food has a negative impact on the American people. The fast food industry can be compared to that of a drug dealer pushing their product down the throats of suspecting, but ever willing customers. The community is doing nothing to stop this going industry and yet encouraging them to continue to impact the health of its customers.
(May, Kuklina, Yoon). The food that they provide is made to be eaten quickly, causing problems for the digestive system. Also, the health problems lead to the use of health insurance, which adds to the costs of Medicare. Health care costs will only worsen in an already failing economy. Therefore, the government should regulate fast food restaurants in the United States in order to repair the deteriorating health and economy in America.
What is happening to our economy is that so many people are going to these fast food restaurants because they are basically on just about every corner. So, for adults that makes it easy if they didn’t have anything planned for dinner because they can just pick something up from the local fast food restaurant on their way home from work. Also, it is very cheap. For example, a bundle at McDonald’s can feed up to four people at one time and it only costs about fifteen dollars! So, in the long run, it is just easier to go pick up some fast food rather than wasting your time cooking an actual meal. Lastly, even though fast food is very cheap and on every corner, it is not healthy at all. Studies have proven that a person that ate McDonald’s for his meals for a full month ended up having some serious health changes. In conclusion, even though it is very easy to access and very cheap, fast food has some serious health issues and be very harmful.
Obesity in America is a rising situation. The issue keeps getting more controversial and many people are blaming the fast food restaurants for this problem people are facing. Radley Balko the author of “What You Eat is Your Business” explains that no one should have a say on what people eat. The government plays a big role in trying to tell people what they can, and cannot eat. Balko explains how the government should not have any say so on what people choose to eat. David Zinzeko the author of “Don’t Blame the Eater” explains how it is not their fault they are obese. Instead, they are blaming the fast food restaurants for making them obese because of the small options they have are healthy. In my personal opinion, the government should have no choice in what we eat. Fast food companies should not be blamed for making people fat when people make the choice to go there knowing that it is not healthy.
We need to make people aware of the many side effects of eating fast food. They need to know what they are doing to their bodies. And if America still wants fast food, we need to have people exercise more, a lot of Americans out there eat a lot of fast food and then just don’t exercise. A lot don’t exercise at all. America is becoming obese.
According to resent studies, Americans eat fast food for the convenience, mostly in the Western and Eastern part of the USA and people that cook and eat at home they are more traditional, for example in the Midwest. Fast food has been part of life in the USA for over 60 years. It has become extremely popular by Americans simply for the convenience.
Out of the millions of ways to spend twelve hundred dollars yearly, American’s are found to spend this amount of money in the fast food industry. The working class, lower class, and children are mainly attracted through fast food marketing methods. These methods enable continuous growth within the fast food industry, and allow for it to be a staple for these socioeconomic groups. The nutritional value is not a top priority for both parties because it is inexpensive, made quickly, and taste good. These socioeconomic groups are vital towards the success of the fast food industry. It is producing billions of dollars in revenue from disadvantaged consumers, endangering meanwhile their health. They widely use the cradle-to-grave marketing strategy
Radley Balko, in ‘What You Eat Is Your Business’ writes, “President Bush earmarked 200 million in his budget for anti-obesity measures”. He continues to inform his readers how sodas and sugary snacks have been banned from schools across the country. If we target where children are getting their meals daily, of course we could easily help the growing problem. Accordingly, there should be a regulation of fast food restaurants and how disposable they are to our youth. If we are making it so easy to get your hands on such unhealthy foods for the sole fact that the business continues to make money, then we others to
As many people are trying to put the blame of obesity on restaurants, others, like myself, have a strong opinion that the restaurants have nothing to do with obesity and the customer has the right to order what they would like. Some supporters believe that government should take action to...
In the article, "Why Investing in Fast Food May Be a Good Thing," Amy Domini starts it off by expressing her support for the Slow Food movement. Domini expands on her views following by statistics about Slow Food and the growth of the fast food industry. Throughout the article, Dominic accuses the Slow Food movement of being short-sighted. The first way she does this is when she makes a comment about Slow Food not being available in communities and if it is it's overpriced. Another way she seems to accuse the Slow Food movement of being short-sighted is when she explains how people tend to focus on the growing industries such as fast food and how people see it's growth and interest. Due to the fact that many of us, citizens of the United States, live
There is a small relationship between fast food and cigarettes where each one significantly causes long term problems. Similarly, eating fast food and smoking too much becomes dangerously unhealthy and both are addicting. However, the difference is fast food started off on good terms. It was intended as a helpful way to provide meals quick and ready, thus given its name (Aldridge 279). Fast food restaurants successfully expanded and became popular all over the world. Despite the worldwide success and popularity, it did gain negative views after weight problems began to rise. The food served from the fast food industry was never considered healthy and soon became the target for the blame on health problems, specifically obesity. Although fast
Even though fast food restaurants are fast and quick in an emergency, getting rid of fast food should lower the over population of overweight people. Provided fast food restaurants usually don’t use real meat, and without real meat there are more fats and preservatives than our body needs. At HELPGUIDE.org they say that just one meal at a fast food restaurant can hold enough calories, sodium, and fat for that entire day! (Paul and Robinson 1) Not only are they unhealthy, but they are unclean. An illustration is that when you go to get your drink, look up the ice dispenser. Many times there will be mold. There is a way to eat healthier at a fast food restaurant, but it will not be as enticing.
Having fast food makes our lives more convenient in all ways. You no longer have to wait in long line ups, and can get food at a much fast rate. Yet, how can we still permit fast food when it is doing harm to our society? They no only increase the slaughtering and death of billions of animals, but are also costing us more than we can afford. But not important of all, they are putting millions of lives at risk. Just for a quicker and more delicious meal. We must forbid fast food from ever reaching the shelves.
