What does it take to become a Canadian? Becoming a Canadian is a tedious task and most people of foreign countries immigrate to Canada just to have better conditions for their future generations. Whenever immigrating, people think of good experiences, and most people who have high skill levels are more likely to be accepted in countries. Instead, Canada’s immigration laws in fact make it unjust for the people who immigrate as it shows discrimination towards different groups, strict opportunities and increases the stress of the lives of these newcomers. To start with, the foreigner laws of Canada display prejudice towards particular groups of people making them feel excluded. In Canada, discrimination is shown towards foreign workers of color because once foreigners acquire a job they are racially discriminated by employers in ways such that they earn 40% less than their white counterparts.(Wrongs of Canadian Immigration) As a result, more immigrants who grew poor increased by an additional 25% in the past 20 years and around 60% of poor immigrant families are from racialized groups. Immigration can can provide opportunities to recently settled immigrants, however, there are negative impacts from the immigration laws as they can imply discrimination towards the immigrants where they have a hard time getting paid properly or getting into Canada. These laws make it difficult for people to achieve their citizenships, government does not help out and foreign workers are treated unfairly. Moreover, these newcomers cannot sustain proper lifestyles as they feel distressed, having improper jobs.
