When reading, “The Propaganda Of History”, by W.E.B. Dubios, he explained how children, and by the way he spoke I believe he was talking about white children, were specifically taught that African Americans were, “all ignorant, lazy, and dishonest.” They were also taught to believe that the “Negros”, were the reason for bad government in reconstruction. Now I believe that racism is taught. You can out two children together that have not been taught to see color, but taught to see character and they will not act different towards one another. I think he wanted to bring attention to this too, and he did in the long run. I feel the point he was making was that no matter how educated you are in this era, because it was clear to see that he had to be more educated than the other men he worked with by the way the men talked to him. No matter how good you were at your job, and regardless of your work ethic. The color of your skin would set you apart in this era. You could have every qualification in the world, and be more educated than all the Caucasian man around you, but that wouldn't matter. So I believe he found it easier to become societies idea of an African American, than to fight a losing battle at this point. In the long run changes were made. I believe he thought that he couldn't make a difference, which is very sad but true at this point in time. The last document I read was called, “ The American Dilemma”, by Gunner Myrdal, and was titled “A White Man's Problem”. It explains the white mans view on how they thought they were justified in the way they treated African Americans. He did studies on African Americans and found out that “scientifically” they were not much different than the “white american”. He came to the conclusion that the reason why white americans were so cruel was because it made white americans less familiar with the idea of them being there, because we became comfortable with them not being
“It should come as no surprise that Washington’s historical conflict culminated as a struggle between him and DuBois” (Gibson III 66). To say the least, both men were very active in the upbringing of African-Americans, but their differences in displaying out the solution was what brought them apart. Washington wanted the education system to enforce industrial teachings that started at lower economic power, while DuBois had more abstract ideas of equality and voting for African-Americans. Washington was conservative in the matter of African-American inclusion into society, hoping that given enough time and progress, people would learn to accept them, rather than fight for social power like what DuBois stood for. Despite Washington’s program that appealed to White-Americans, he was involved in politics and spoke about the disfranchisement of African-Americans.

The sympathetic humanist might bristle at first, but would eventually concur. For it's hard to argue with poverty. At the time the novel was published (1912), America held very few opportunities for the Negro population. Some of the more successful black men, men with money and street savvy, were often porters for the railroads. In other words the best a young black man might hope for was a position serving whites on trains. Our protagonist--while not adverse to hard work, as evidenced by his cigar rolling apprenticeship in Jacksonville--is an artist and a scholar. His ambitions are immense considering the situation. And thanks to his fair skinned complexion, he is able to realize many, if not all, of them.
This statement suggests that the quality of life for colored people in this time period is worse than being dead. It is implied by Dubois in this essay that not only would the white people be happier if the black people were all killed, but also that the black people would be happier due to them not having to face the hatred and segregation that they were subject to at the time. Dubois makes a sound argument that the white people in this time period have a problem with a black man making the same amount of money as them and getting the same education as them. They do not believe the black man is their equal. Accordingly, it means that contributing the industrial process with the black race helps the white race get profits from getting together; it is never harmful for them. Furthermore, he uses several tones to express his ideas effectively. Most of his tone is humble to make his white audience feel comfortable and pleasant. The general impressions that are used in the speech are greatly gentle and respectful. He doesn’t even mention so much of his race in order not to offend the white men. There is an alteration in his tone during the speech, which contains a bit of defensive expression in the middle of the speech. Nevertheless, he is generally respectful not to expose his real purpose of the black race. The speech does not seem to have any offense, even though he intimidates the white audiences in some points. He doesn’t want to reveal that he makes a threat or wants advanced steps of the black race. That is the reason he implies his opinions, non-superficially, by using humble tones, which is very wise to express the ideas that must be counted as unacceptable improvements for the blacks in the time
Lewis’s viewpoint is not without it’s truths. The Harlem renaissance was overseen by a number of intellectuals such as Booker T. Washington, Marcus Garvey, and W.E.B. Dubois. Booker T. Washington‘s, a highly influential speaker of the age, words appealed to both Caucasians and African-Americans. Washington forged an interracial bridge of communication through his unique tactics in the quest for equality. He believed in more subtle ways of gaining equality through hard work, cunning, and humility. War and Propaganda: A Look at How the Two Have Been Inseparable Through Time. There have been many wars that the United States has been a part of. Some fought on American soil, others fought abroad. But through it all, there has always been a need for the public’s support. And what better way to get that support than by putting information out there for the public?
Unlike Washington, Dubois was born a free man and lived in the North in a predominately white area in an integrated community. He was very intelligent and excelled in the local schools he attended. However, it wasn’t until he attended Fisk University in Tennessee where he encountered his first issue dealing with racism and the Jim Crow laws. This experience is what shaped his ideas and philosophies on black people and their oppression. Dubois went back to the north to continue his education, focusing on the racial injustice and how to build equality for African Americans right then. After being the first black man to receive his PhD from Harvard University, he wrote his dissertation “The Suppression of the African Slave-Trade to the Unites States of America” which was one of his first academic works. Dubois was a powerful scholar and was headstrong as well. He believed that Washington’s idea would only help to continue the oppression of blacks from white people. Dubois advocated for a right now change. He created a civil rights agenda to work towards advocating equality for African Americans. He argued that Washington’s idea seemed “...well-nigh impossible…” (539). These first two readings are primary sources because they are first-hand accounts of two leaders of the civil rights movement who lived throughout this time period and experience, as African American men themselves, racism. After the Civil War many civil right movement leaders arose to speak up in favor of African Americans, one of these leaders, and perhaps the most famous was Booker T. Washington. In the first line of the poem "Mr. Z," "Taught early that his mother's skin was the sign of error," insinuates that from the very beginning he was taught that being African-American was an "error" or unacceptable. This false message impacted him his entire life. He tried to "act white," he did this by the way "He dressed and spoke with the perfect honor." This implied that he dressed the way someone of the Caucasian race would dress and act. He then "Won Scholarships, attended the best schools," education was unheard of for most African-Americans especially college. He "Disclaimed kinship with jazz and spirituals;" both of these traditions were a great part of the African culture, yet he did not take part in them.
In his essay, his writes “One day one of a the group Irish kids passing through our block called me a n*****” and he also writes“The murder of light-skinned Emmet Till made me feel like a real Negro”. Even though he didn’t feel he could identify with being either white or black and wasn’t offend when called he was called a n*****. It wasn’t till something as cruel as the Emmet Till murder, that opened his eyes to the reality of things. He writes how he felt like a feel real Negro because of it, and I feel he means that he had a reality check and the differences he saw between him and other blacks like him dancing like an animated tin man and not speaking Ebonics meant nothing and regardless of all that, he was black in the eyes of the Euros(as he would call them). None of those things mattered to Euros and they didn’t care about how you spoke. They didn’t care if you were a good person or if you were of a light complexion. Only one thing mattered to the Euros, and that was your skin color, black was black to them.
The foul stench of corporatist spiel responsible in the terrible genocide can still be smelt by the families of the 100,000 and more farmers who committed suicide after having forced to grow BT cotton, the genetically modified seeds supplied by American MNC Monsanto. Critical opinions on the Indian government when it comes to handling the issue of farmer suicides describe it as an apathetic one. As of 2009, 87% of India’s cotton land still cultivates the BT cotton. The lack of blame on Monsanto or any kind of valid coverage by the Indian Media and the apathetic reactions of the government clearly indicates the vast influence Monsanto as a corporation exercises over not just the media but the government at the same time, lobbying their way out of otherwise having the guilt of over a 100,000 dead Indian farmers.
