The Problems of Racism

Racism is an evil that can destroy society. America is a nation of

immigrants and, as such, it is a diverse society where racism and

prejudice have no place. Everyone came here from somewhere. Our

country's phrase is "all men are created equal." We are a diverse

nation where racism and prejudice are unwarranted. Racism hurts

people.

When I attended Sandy Springs Middle School, it was one of my best

experiences with white people. As I walked into the strange and

unfamiliar buildings, people seemed to know their way around the

building except for me. I felt lost and unwanted, and like I was in

another universe. When I was in the 6th grade my life was just

starting to change. I was hoping for the better. White people- I had

never been around that many before until I went there. It seemed like

I was going to be the odd person in school, but I wasn't. I always

thought that blacks and whites have their own space; but going to this

school proved me wrong. After going to this school for three years I

made white friends, and was put in the category "white girl" by

blacks. I like the way everyone was treated equally, even when it came

down to getting grades, service, and other such things. At the other

schools I attend the most I saw of white people is when they were my

teachers; now it is like they surrounded me.

Having all this being said there was another situation I encountered

at this convene store. When I walked in the store on this one Saturday

evening it seemed to be a normal day until I felt threaten by the

store manager. He was watching my friends and me like we were going to

rob him of his store. So instead of confronting us about how he felt,

he decided to watch us while we shopped. Being in this situation hurt

me to my heart because I didn't think people would be so cruel to
