POWER: AN ESSAY ON POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY INTRODUCTION The word "power" itself implies the "powerful". Power is usually used word in everyday context, but to understand it in political philosophy I would like to explain "what power is not?" Can't we say that power is seen even in a beggar whom we consider, the powerless, ignored by the society, or can we say that a physically paralyzed man have no power in him? So the task for me is to explain "what power is not", then only I can explore the term power in political philosophy. I put these individualistic examples not to show the powerlessness in the individuals, but to relate this with and within the political context, and philosophize the terminology. I the first one the beggar suffers all kind of tortures and sufferings, but he is consistent in the work he does and finds his savings. Later his perseverance shows him to become a millionaire. So the source of the power is forming that situation of not having any kind of power. People couldn't recognize him as he reached that position. Nature and environment, humans and everything in this world comprises of powers in it to radiate. A child born to this world has always his palms closed indicating that he has the potentiality to radiate and become. But this form of individual power can be degenerative when misused and manipulated. For Example government officer who has power due to his position is getting bribes. He uses his title as manager to get money excessively so that those who come there for some help can go easily. Referent power: It is the attraction or loyalty vreatd to become a power holder. Nationalism and Patriotism are of those kinds. For example military defense done by people to keep the honor of their country.
