The Power of Teachers: The Opportunity to Shape Lives

I believe a good teacher can stimulate and help improve the minds and lives of countless students by sharing with them the gift of knowledge and believing in them. Many teachers today think that education consists solely of teaching th e textbooks, but that education is the true key to unlocking the mind and helping young people to be positive members of society. Early childhood is an important period of life. Childhood is the time when growth is great and learning rapid. So much of w hat a young child experiences early affects the quality of later years. I agree with many people who say the children are the future of the world. In order to realize this, there is one more necessary element. There must be good teachers with the abili ties to guide them in the right direction and to teach them the right values of life.

I was a one of lucky students who had a great teacher. I had a teacher in high school who used to say, "I am forever young because you are with me. I thank God who gave me this wonderful job." The most influential teacher in my life is Mr. Barker, who taught me English at Los Angeles High School. He was like an oasis in the middle of the desert. He was everything I dreamed a teacher could and should be. He taught us how to love one another, and opened our minds to the beautiful side of life. Mr. Barker’s influence motivated me to become a teacher. I thought being a teacher was the best career in the whole world, and I still believe a teacher can change one’s valuable life.

I wonder how many teachers like Mr. Barker are out there? How many people were lucky as me to have a teacher who was like a friend, a father or a counselor? How many teachers really care about their students? How many teachers spend t heir ...

I want to be a good elementary school teacher who can stimulate and help improve the minds and lives of countless students by sharing with them the gift of knowledge. I will be the one who will change the statistic. My classroom will b e open for everyone no matter who they are or where they come from. Everyone will be a dream-maker in my classroom and I will not be a dream killer. I am ready to be a filter.
