The Holocaust was a time in which millions of people were persecuted and mistreated: people banned together and stood up against prejudice and discrimination by actively and passively opposing the Germans. Citizens that actively resisted used violence and force to directly attack the Nazis in attempt to save their life. Those that preferred, prepared to resist passively by not using physical brutality, but instead continued their daily lives out of the sight of the Nazis. In “The Diary of Anne Frank,” we see how Meip, a Dutch Citizen resisted the Germans passively, by hiding the Frank family and four other Jewish families in a secret annex above Anne’s father's business premise during World War Two. They resisted without risking anybody’s life, …show more content…
For instance, in “The Diary of Anne Frank” Anne uses her diary to increase her family’s moral and to oppose the Nazis. As she writes about her daily life and attitude towards the Nazis, we see how she resisted by carrying on the legacy of her family with her writing. The Nazis policy was not just to remove the people, but to remove the memory of those people, and the very memories those people might have within them. Her diary is brought the people faith and optimism. People in the concentration camps used their talents such as acting or playing the piano to make people forget the hunger and misery and long for another concert. Meanwhile for the artists this was a revolt against the regime. Passive resistance points towards a future: by bearing its meaning is like a sealed envelope into in another era and redirects the world away from violence. Some may argue that you are doing nothing for the better of the Jewish people by hiding and are not helping the ultimate cause or end goal, but the people are making more of a difference preserving their culture by teaching and practicing it than killing five out of ten thousand people and then dying from being shot. The active resistors are not making that much of a difference in their army by killing a couple. By teaching, people are renewing their faith they …show more content…
For example, the Franks were in hiding in order to protect the security of their family. While they were hiding, they made sure that everybody was heedless of where they were so that it would look as though they disappeared in case the Nazis came looking for them: they wanted to protect their identity so they could leave a legacy behind them. In, “Resistance during the Holocaust,” It talks about how the Jews had cultural activities that reflected their culture and provided hope: “Such acts undermined Nazi power and inspired Jewish hope…[while] cultural activities helped people temporarily forget the worries of ghetto life and [how they] were a source of entertainment.” The Nazis were not only trying to kill the Jews, but they were trying to erase all of their culture and everything they stood for. Some may argue with the point that by going outside of your home and directly attacking them is the best option because you are doing it for to protect your people and their lives, but are you being that selfish to take other people’s lives in order to save your own? What active resistors don’t realize is that they are trying to stop killing with killing. They go out with the purpose to kill the Nazis because the Nazis are killing their own people. They are really just angreing the Nazis even more which will eventually lead to more deaths of
Jews. He took it upon himself and Miep to give the two families in hiding
As their way of passive resistance, Anne and her family hid “upstairs in the building where father used to have business,” and the people who sheltered them risked imprisonment by doing so (283). Anne also resisted by writing in her diary. Nevertheless, some individuals argue that the only way to make a stance against tyranny is to actively fight back. However, individuals with this way of thinking fail to realize the impact passive resistance has had throughout history. For example, take Rosa Parks, a black woman who stood up against racism and made a colossal impact on the civil rights movement. Parks fought passively for equality and inspired numerous individuals to do the

How would you feel if you were a Jew in World War II? Anne Frank was a Jew in World War II. The play we read was called the diary of Anne Frank. She said, "In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart." According to the diary she believed in the quality in people even after hardships her family has endured. Anne Frank had to go into hiding from Hitler because he wanted to kill all of the Jews. He thought that they should not be allowed to practice their religion. Because of this, she had to go into hiding for two years. Here are some ways she showed her belief that people were good at heart. The first reason is she thought of different ways to make her family happy in the darkest of times. The second reason is Mr. Van Daan stole bread to feed himself. The third reason was she found someone to talk to even when she was trapped for two years. She was believing in everyone else as they were breaking down in fear.
Anne Frank was a 13-year-old Jewish girl who was thrown into one of the worst periods in the history of the world; the Holocaust. Though she went through awful things that many people will never experience, she always kept the faith that there was still some good in everyone. She once said, “Despite everything I still believe people are truly good at heart.” Her diary, which she kept while her family was in hiding from the Nazis, shows the triumph of her spirit over the evil in the world even through the pain of adolescence. The Franks and Van Dans were hiding and they suffered many hardships, mentally and physically. Many people in Anne’s situation would have become bitter and resentful, but Anne never would despair.
During the Holocaust there were many different forms of resistance undertaken by Jewish people. These can be categorised into two main forms, armed resistance and passive resistance. Armed resistance was resistance by Jews and civilians who actively fought back, sometimes they managed to scavenge weapons and use them in attacks on Germans and the different enforcement groups such as the SS. Armed resistance took place mainly in ghettos and concentration camps however, also occurred on the streets of Nazi occupied Europe. Passive resistance was less aggressive and usually meant that Jewish people refused to deny their faith and still practiced their religion in some form. Illegal organisations, Jewish militias and underground political groups also formed, planning and executing attacks and resisting the Nazi rule in occupied Europe.
Have you ever read the play “The Diary of Anne Frank?” She wrote in a book during the Holocaust. She hid in a place called the “Secret Annex” Mr. Kraler was the man who let the Franks and Van Daans stay in his attic. The theme was “Which characters contribute to them theme people are good at heart.” In the play “ The diary of Anne Frank”, the theme people are good at heart is developed through the characters Miep Gies, Mr.Kraler, and Anne Frank.
Sina Salemian Salemian 1 HS English 2;Period 3 Ms.Matthews January 10, 2014 Anne Frank During The Holocaust Anne Frank is a strong young girl that lived during the Holocaust in Amsterdam, Germany. She lived in a very bad time during the Holocaust, where she either had to hide or go to a concentration camp. Anne Frank is a normal girl that should be going to school and not be in hiding from the Nazis and should not have to take the sacrifices of having no friends, no ability to be free and to express her religion. I consider Anne a hero because of all the dedication to staying free and not having to be under a dictatorship.
Imagine what it would have been like to be cooped up in an attic during the Holocaust, with only very little space eight people in one little attic. For the Franks and the Van Danns it was eight people and a cat for most the time. With no one to talk to they have to keep everything in, unless they write it. In “The Diary of Anne Frank” the two families live this way. Anne and Peter were two of the characters who experienced this. Anne is a teenage girl who has a sister and lives during the Holocaust. Anne also had a lot of friends so she was popular; she loved to read and write in her journal. She was very loud and obnoxious. In Act one Scene two ,Peter says “I was always by myself, while you were in a big crowd of people.” This shows that Anne was very popular and is used to people; while Peter was not used to as much attention and people. Then in Act one Scene three, Mr.Van Dann says, “ Why can’t you be more like your sister Margot?” This proves that the Van Danns like Margot more than they like Anne ; it also proves they think Anne is obnoxious.
These actions can benefit and enlighten the youth, to understand the pain these people have gone through. They can have a better understanding of these situations and will know if history will repeat itself again. The Resistance Effort was able to save thousands or millions of Jews; but, they must had understood that indifference is much worse than the hatred the citizens had against the Jews, Gypsies ,etc… “Indifference is not a response. Indifference is not a beginning; it is an end. And, therefore, indifference is always the friend of the enemy, for it benefits the aggressor -- never his victim, whose pain is magnified when he or she feels forgotten.” To think about him or herself by bystanding a situation without actually helping the receiver. Gives more pain to the receiver with a simple inhuman action. To be able to participate can highlight the importance of being a human being and give justice to the outcasted. To be able know the outcome of both consequences of action and inaction, is important. Since, these consequences will give people a better understanding on what’s right and what’s
In the sources used, the situations that are experienced seems like there is no hope to be found, only fear. Fear will protect us, we hope. Nevertheless, hope is everywhere no matter what. For World War II in The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne Frank is the secret annex’s hope. Anne Frank is a 13-year old girl that has the most hope of surviving the Nazi Invasion. All you can think is, “Ah, the Nazi’s are coming! Run for your lives!” That is what went through many minds during this time period, fear. Fear is a strong ally to have. You can worry all the time and no one will stop you. But, hope can be an even stronger ally, if you believe.
The name “Anne Frank” is synonymous with hope, optimism, and belief in human good, even in times of relentless evil. Although she only lived to be fifteen, Anne is known and respected throughout the world for the humanistic light her work shed on an infamous time. Born June 12th, 1929, in Germany, she spent her early years in a middle-class Jewish-German family. However, the tranquility of the Frank family and 522,000 other German-Jews’ lives would be shattered by one of the most nefarious events in history, the Holocaust. Anne’s diary has become an influential resource in understanding historical and emotional aspects of the Holocaust.
Passive Resistance is usually connected with such famous people as Henry David Thoreau who developed the principal of civil disobedience. For Thoreau, the idea was to choose not to support governmental taxes and policies that he felt were wrong. This theme was later used by Mahatma Gandhi in his fight for Indian independence. In the 1960’s this method was used by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to bring racial injustice to the public’s attention. In all of these cases, the men who followed the ideal of passive resistance were prepared to suffer the consequences of their actions in order to draw attention to their causes.
In the events that happened during the holocaust were very graphic and very displeasing to lots of families. One of those families were Anne Frank’s family. In the research paper you are going to see what it was like for Anne Frank’s family. The general information, when and where they were hiding, and how they all died during the holocaust, will all be stated in the paper.
I. Introduction The autobiography book, “The Diary of a Young Girl”, is a collection of Dutch diary entries authored by Anne Frank, a 13-year-old Jewish girl who lived through the atrocities of the Anti-Semitist German Nazi Regime. Beginning on June 14, 1942, the diary, which Anne named “Kitty”, vividly depicts fear-filled stories of the Franks and other Jews in evading racial annihilation. Besides the stories of war, the world-renowned personal account narrates a teenage girl’s blossoming and her search for identity, love, and acceptance. The entries end abruptly on August 1, 1944, signifying the Gestapo’s capture of the Frank family and all the other residents of the Secret Annexe, but despite the impermanence of Anne’s life, her legacy endures in her 70-year-old memoir which immortalizes the horrors of the humanity-crushing war and violence in the minds of mankind and how it was perceived through the eyes of the juveniles.
