I believe a game can be any game throughout the world that wants to be played like a game and a gamer can be any gamer that it is willing to challenge the game. Many individuals throughout society determine what game to choose and which game to play. When I talk about games I do not mean video games only. A game and a gamer player can be created in the real world, obstacles that come across life, and of course video games. In the real world people are set to actually have an everyday game. What I mean by an everyday game is that most individuals play games trying to work, have money, stay fit, stay strong, stay healthy, be perfect, and etc. Playing this game can be tough and not easy as it looks. Moreover, the real world sometimes consists …show more content…
Video games can be a negative or a positive effect for individuals. For example, the article “playing video games is good for your brain” by Mark Griffiths director of the International Gaming Research Unit and Professor of Gambling Studies at Nottingham Trent University states that, “the enhanced learning of the regularity of environments may act as a core mechanism by which video game play influences performance in perception, attention, and cognition.” Which means that video games most of the times to certain individuals feel alive while playing the game. Due to individuals feeling alive while playing video games it once again converts into reality and individuals are actually playing what the real life is. The reason why is because many games now in days actually contain real life incidents and players get knowledge out of these games. They become more familiar with life without even noticing it. Video games in many cases teach the players about real world. In the same way, it helps the player gain skills, practice real life events in the game, and educate the players. Believe or not video games prepare people to be ready in the real world to succeed. As a final point, video games takes players back to reality in where they have to win in order for positive outcomes to come along or restart the game in order to reach the positive outcomes once
“Most reported effects of videogames – particularly in the popular press – appear to centre upon the alleged negative consequences… Research has consistently shown that playing computer games (irrespective of genre) produces reductions in reaction times, improved hand-eye co-ordination and raises players’ self-esteem,” (Griffiths p. 47), states Mark Griffiths in his article, “The educational benefits of videogames”. When people think of video games, they often tend to think about the negative side effects that video games can have on a person. Will Wright in his article, “Dream Machines” also defends video games by providing positive effects that video games have on those who play them. Wright presents
In pages 20-24 of Reality Is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World, I agree that there are many different video games. For me, I am a fan of single-player games with story modes because I can play by myself and go at a pace that suits me. However, I enjoy playing online multiplayer when I have friends I can play with because it is fun interacting with friends and doing stuff together. I play on a console or my computer, but I have played on my phone and a hand-held device. I have not played a board game or card game in a while, but I would play it if the opportunity presents itself. The video games genres I play are sports, action, and adventure. I agree with Jane McGonigal that video games share four defining traits,
Tom Bissell, whom is the author of the article Extra Lives: Why Video Games Matter starts off his article uniquely by creating a theoretical situation in which he is telling his future children that he missed the 2008 presidential inauguration, because he was playing video games. He talks about Fall Out 3, Oblivion and other games he calls, open world games, which are games with no designated path with the possibilities being almost limitless. Bissell explains how attractive the graphics are along with how interested in the story you can become. He admits how much time he has spent playing and how irritated the games make him at times. Bissell doesn’t clarify anywhere that he believes video games are good or bad for anyone, he just shares his experience with video games for others to think about or relate to.
Video games should not be banned because they help in building our personality procedure, and they are healthy. Up to date researches show that first person shooter games have many advantages such as “faster and more accurate attention allocation, higher spatial resolution in visual processing, and enhanced mental rotation abilities.” (C. Thus, people who play first person shooter games uses there neurons in a more effective way than non-players, when facing problems and difficulties (Granic, Lobel & Engels, 2013). It is important to bear in mind that these studies did not yield the same consequences when it came to other types of technology. Video games do a very effective job of bringing people together that have the same interest and giving them a sense of community Video games help young adults improve their overall confidence in solving everyday problems. Video games are built on the concept that there is a problem and that the gamer has to find out the solution. Who are the people listening to these people in powerful positions? Parents. Some Parents have this misunderstanding that all video games are bad and that all video games have a negative effect on their child and how they develop. Some parents with that understanding are misinformed and need to understand just how beneficial video games can actually be for their children. Although some parents think that video games offer nothing but negative effects, they are actually really beneficial to kids and

Nevertheless, video games also have beneficial effects, which tend to be underrated, as they do not receive the same level of media coverage that adverse ones do, and are thus unknown to the general public. Some of the positive effects of playing video games on mental development include: stimulating analytical thinking, improving concentration, and encouraging planning and anticipation (“Video game controversies”).
Many people believe that video games change people and mislead them to do bad things, such as drugs and alcohol, but it is the opposite.
