As of today, fast food has become an essential element in daily life and as something people depend on. Among the common excuse given as of why people consume fast food regularly is that it is convenient to get hold of fast food because fast food chains are just everywhere and also because their service is quick and efficient, especially for those who are always in a rush and do not want to have to wait hours for their meal like students. Another common reason why people go for fast food is because of the cheap price. The average price for a meal set at various fast food chains in the States could be as low as 4 USD excluding tax and it is undeniably a bargain, if only consuming fast food regularly would not affect your health. Everyone is not ignorant of the fact that regular consumption of fast food could bring harmful effects to our wellbeing but somehow, people often look past this. Fast food really should not be consumed regularly due to its effects to health despite how easy it is to get them. This essay will discuss the reason why fast food is harmful to health as it can cause heart diseases, diabetes and obesity.
When we talk about how fast food is harmful to health if consumed regularly, many fast food lovers argue that there are healthier fast food options that are assumed to contain fewer calories and fat compared to regular fast food. Throughout the United States many American’s go through and eat at fast food places such as, McDonalds, Burger King, and Jack ‘n the Box. Mainly unaware of the amount of weight one can gain if consuming it on a daily bases or even two times week, can cause health issues, diabetes and possibly obesity. This was the main premise for writer Dave Zinczenko essay Don’t Blame the Eater, who makes an argument that many people are becoming obese and diabetic because of the fast food they eat. He asks a regarding his concern; Shouldn 't we know better than to eat two meals a day in fast-food restaurants?, As a way to engage the general public, like parents and teenagers, he expresses his argument through his own experience when he was a teenager eating at fast food places and information on the fast food industry in regards to how many calories are in the food.
Super-size was a 2004 documentary film directed and stared in by Morgan Spurlock, who wanted to prove that like cigarettes, fast food “McDonalds” is just as harmful to The American population of the United States. He got the idea from two girls who were in a lawsuit with McDonalds, They blamed “McDonalds” for having gained so much weight, and they were also blaming “McDonalds” for corrupting their eating habits. The lawsuit failed and that was the reason Spurlock, decided to take on his 30 day diet of “McDonalds” food eating it (meals) three times a day, to show the probability he would gain a lot of weight and prove a significant point to “the citizens of United States of America.”

Fast food restaurants serve unhealthy products such as greasy foods and artificial meat that lead to dietary health issues in many adults and children. A recent study showed that “Young children who are fed processed, nutrient-poor foods are likely to become unhealthy teenagers, and eventually unhealthy adults. Now twenty-three percent of teens in the U.S. are pre-diabetic or diabetic, 22% have high or borderline high LDL cholesterol levels, and 14% have hypertension or prehypertension”

Shortly after Super Size Me caught high publicity attention, McDonald’s has introduced three “garden fresh salads.” Other popular fast food chains were not far behind the healthy menu options McDonald’s has offered, and soon numerous salad, yogurt, fruit, and grilled chicken food items popped up on every fast food menu. The message is simple; people are becoming too fat due to the consumption of fast food. Therefore, obesity and the demand for fresh, quick food service have increased the popularity of health conscious food selections on fast food menus.

Majority of the students in our study are consuming fast food more than recommended by nutritionist: at least once a month (Weil, 2014).
