It’s not difficult to seem like the dream guy to a woman desiring to get married before 40. That’s the case in David M. Rosenthal’s *The Perfect Guy,* starring Sanaa Lathan, Michael Ealy and Morris Chestnut. *The Perfect Guy *is an American thriller released September 11, 2015. The movie demonstrates what’s to be known as a fatal attraction. Movie theatres filled quickly with audiences wanting to see this psycho thriller, if the audiences left satisfied is the question.
In *The Perfect Guy, *Leah (Sanaa Lathan) and Dave (Morris Chestnut) has been dating for two years. The couple seems to be in love; however, they’re on different levels in the relationship. Leah is tired of dating; she desires a marriage and having children. Dave, unfortunately, is not ready for marriage and he fears divorce; he doesn’t want to be forced into a marriage. Two months later, Leah officially meets Carter (Michael Ealy).
A few months before they had a flirty encounter in a coffee shop. This time Carter saved Leah from conversation with a pervert at a restaurant. Leah finds Carter to be extremely charming and to be a gentleman. Eventually, the two begin to date and become involved in a relationship. Carter is very affectionate towards Leah, he shows her emotions that Dave didn’t show and he meets her parents. While Carter is doing an excellent job of being the perfect guy; Leah shortly discover a side of Carter that completely pushes her away from
him. After watching Carter brutally beat a man, Leah end their relationship. Carter, however, will not let Leah walk out of his life. He change from the role of the perfect guy to a psychotic stalker. The biggest issue with the movie is that it’s a predictable script. Also, the material in the movie is given too quickly. There is no time for the audiences to wonder “what’s going to happen next?” because they may have already predicted what’s next. Typically, a movie should always keep its audiences on the edge. This is not the case with *The Perfect Guy*. Someone who doesn’t watch movies frequently may find satisfactory in the movie. However, the movie is poorly delivered. The only surprise in the movie is when Dave is murder in a “car accident.” The audience probably thought Leah and Dave would live happily, like in fairytales. *The Perfect Guy *surely didn’t live up to its hype; the previews were actually more interesting than the movie.
“I can taste her lipstick, it's like I'm kissing her, too”. She has reached a turning point in the relationship; she knows he is being unfaithful from the way he acts towards her, tasting her lipstick as she kisses him, when he says her name in his sleep. She knows he’s being unfaithful yet she still stays- she stays hoping he will change when he does not. While in “Before He Cheats” she does not stay another second to an
Several Years after their marriage, cousin Mattie Silver is asked to relieve Zeena, who is constantly ill, of her house hold duties. Ethan finds himself falling in love with Mattie, drawn to her youthful energy, as, “ The pure air, and the long summer hours in the open, gave life and elasticity to Mattie.” Ethan is attracted to Mattie because she is the opposite of Zeena, while Mattie is young, happy, healthy, and beautiful like the summer, Zeena is seven years older than Ethan, bitter, ugly and sickly cold like the winter. Zeena’s strong dominating personality undermines Ethan, while Mattie’s feminine, lively youth makes Ethan fell like a “real man.” Ethan and Mattie finally express their feeling for each other while Zeena is visiting the doctor, and are forced to face the painful reality that their dreams of being together can not come true.
June Callwood has proven her point effectively in this essay on the myth of a “Prince Charming” in favour of a much more much down to earth person with lasting qualities. Callwood debunks the myth of a “Prince Charming” with her first sentence. “I don’t believe for a moment that a perfect mate exists and if such a freak of nature did occur that person would not be a heavenly match for me because I am imperfect and we would clash” (paragraph 1). Callwood debunks this myth by proving that even if such a person did exist; said person is highly unlikely to be a match due to our imperfections. Callwood indirectly uses a cliché in order to tell the reader how to find love.
The marriage plot has been quite prominent in the film industry over the past few decades. The plot that is characterized by its lead woman “getting” the lead man and vice versa, has contributed to such movie blockbusters as Pretty Woman and the classic film, Pillow Talk. While both films can be classifies as containing marriage plots, the films share other similarities as well. However, in regards to the marriage plot, Pretty Woman follows the pattern much more fluently and precisely that does Pillow Talk.
The definition of the word mate, according to Dictionary.com, is a partner or one of a pair. The perfect mate is something that cannot be achieved but you can strive for. Knowing what characteristics, you like in a mate will help you find someone close to perfect for you. Perfect (free from all faults) characteristics are not what I look for, I look for ideal (most suitable) characteristics in a guy. In this essay I talk about what I look for in a guy compared to what my parents want in a husband for me.
“First came the rules of love. Now comes the fun.” This quote is the tagline for the movie The Sweetest Thing. Christina Walters, played by Cameron Diaz, doesn’t know commitment. Christina and her friends read the book of love, but are just out to play the field. When she accidentally runs into the man of her dreams she blows him off. When she finally realizes that she is in love with him, Courtney Rockcliffe (Christina Applegate) and Christina take a road trip to get him back. Running into many disasters on the trip they end up walking in on Peter Donahue’s (Thomas Jane) wedding. Incredibly embarrassed, she miserably returns home. After making a complete fool out of herself, she still ends up getting what she wants out of life: A man to be committed to and a man to love. Finally, in the end, Peter realizes that he is in love with Christina. He goes to her apartment to apologize, and after she finally is able to overcome her fear of commitment, she takes him in, and they end up being very happy together.
The genre of romantic comedies sets up a framework of generic conventions for each film. Although they usually have the construction, each film is developed in their own unique way. The amusing, comical, and dramatic movies follow the basic structure of the unfulfilled desire of love in the lives of the main characters, a situation that they are put in that provides a chance for potential romance, and then though several obstacles, a realization that they are a perfect match and live “happily ever after”.
Since the time of Aristotle, romantic comedies have sought to tell a story about two people, and questions whether or not they would end up together as Billy Mernit (author of Writing the Romantic Comedy)informs. They also make us question what it means to be in a relationship and tell us a little about ourselves. The romantic comedies were extremely popular with moviegoers during its Golden Age of the 1930’s as Daniel M. Kimmel (author of I’ll Have What She’s Having: Behind the Scenes of the Great Romantic Comedies) informs us. The good romantic comedies of this time were referred to as “weepies” or “three hanky pictures (Kimmel). Over time, though, the romantic comedies dwindled to the point where nowadays the romantic comedies seem to be dead (Mernit). Today, the romantic comedy is alive and well, but it goes unrecognized due to it adapting. The appearance of the romantic comedy may have changed, but the key elements have not changed. The key elements of any romantic comedy include two characters who will meet and fall in love with each other, a conflict that will tear the two of them apart, and an ending where love has changed the main characters and they will either accept or deny love such as the events of Philadelphia Story.
...blems with these things too. Romantic movies don’t show you the process of getting used to cohabiting, or the strains that having children might put on a relationship. You are always watching the good things, the laughs, the sentimental moments, and the passionate love scenes. Any negativity or bump on the road is just a precursor to the golden reunion. It’s understandable why movie writers don’t choose to put these real life situations in their scripts, really who wants to watch a movie that doesn’t end on a happy note. Unfortunately, there’s not much that can be done about these movies being made because according to one analysis done by Nash (2010), the romantic comedy genre was the sixth highest grossing category of films between 1995 and 2010, pulling in over $10 billion in gross revenue during this 15-year period. Perhaps some enhancements can be made to them.

“My Best Friend’s Wedding” is so unpredictable, but properly organized. Four stars out of five awarded by many viewers to the movie. “My Best Friend’s Wedding” ends up with a different couple than people expected. Despite that, Julianne travels for the wedding with the intention of breaking the couple up. Unfortunately for Julianne, her best friend is getting married to the girl of his dreams, Kimmy (Netter, Whitcher & Hogan,1997). This mimics real-life situations. The movie’s ending disappoints the audience because, in their view, they wanted Julianne and Michael to end up together. The director of the movie thought otherwise, which establishes the movie so classic. To the viewers, the ending is more of a mixed feeling of love and hate, making the movie a ‘must see’. The movie tells the audience that life is so unfair. So, loving someone does not guarantee a blissful ending together. Also, often we fail to realize what we have until someone else has it.

Set in the late nineteenth century, Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband points out that the individuals are flawed as introduced by the irony of the play’s title. In this play, Sir Robert Chiltern is a man of wealth and power and is viewed as an ideal husband by his wife, Lady Chiltern. Though he appears to be faultless, he does in fact have an imperfection. The spurious origin of Sir Robert’s successful career and status can be traced to his prior indiscretion, but this secret must be kept confidential, if not, then this will ruin his marriage and career. Sir Robert fears that his past will ruin all that he has achieved. Forced to comply with Mrs. Cheveley’s blackmail, Sir Robert must support Mrs. Cheveley’s scheme to make a fortune. Throughout this play, Sir Robert seeks to accommodate the needs of each woman because his wife has strong idealistic views of him and Mrs. Cheveley, a morally imperfect woman, pulls Sir Robert toward committing additional immoral tasks. In An Ideal Husband, Oscar Wilde comments that every individual has a flaw, whether it is a simple obsession with idealistic views or moral imperfections, through his main characters, Sir Robert, Mrs. Cheveley and Lady Chiltern; however, ultimately despite their flaws. Wilde portrays through the development of his characters that love endures and triumphs all imperfections.

My Best Friend’s Wedding may be a flick for chicks, but it foils some of the common expectations of romantic comedies. It manages to keep alive the mystery of who will end up with whom. Things aren’t as clear-cut as they initially seem to be.
