Greed can lead people to do very unexpected things. In John Steinbeck's story The Pearl Coyotito becomes sick after he was stung by a scorpion his mom sucks the poison out, but she is not sure if he is still sick she gets the doctor. The doctor knows that he is not sick, but he poisons him so that he can get money from them. Steinbeck's uses the doctor poisoning Coyotito to shows how greed can lead to unexpected things.

In the Steinbeck's story initially Kino goes after The Pearl for his son because he was sick. He thought he had found “The Pearl of the world” he thought this was only going to do good for him. Later he went to sell The Pearl and the buyers were being very greedy and tried to hustle him and give him close to nothing for the pearl, but kino knew that it was worth more than what they were trying to give him. Finally Kino decides that he is going to try and go to the capital to sell the pearl for what it is worth, but before it could even get light outside someone tried to take the pearl from Kino. …show more content…

She felt that this pearl was evil and no good and it was going to bring them no good she went to throw the pearl back and Kino got up and chased her to the water threw her to the ground kicking and punching her then he went back to his house and found more intruders. He fought the intruder and killed him, but then his brush house catches on fire and he realizes he needs to leave town. This illustrates how greed can lead to very unexpected
