The Peanuts Movie can pave the way for a new genre of kids movies. Directed by Steve Martino, who is best known for Horton Hears a Who!, adapts the timeless classic written by Charles M. Schulz to a new generation. This kid friendly rated G movie movie centers around the already complicated life of Charlie Brown (Noah Schnapp) who can't seem to catch a break until a little red-head girl (Hadley Belle Miller) moves to town. Charlie Brown soon develops a crush on her and will try to beat the odds to have something good go his way for once. In the meantime his pal Snoopy (Bill Melendez) is off dreaming about being a flying ace in World War 1. Instead of the common mythical creatures or talking animals that seem to be overwhelming kids movies,
The Peanuts Movie takes a refreshing new take on teaching kids a lesson about never giving up in life no matter what the odds are. Using real life situations kids can relate to better than slaying a dragon to save a princess, Peanuts can reach out to all kinds of kids and their likings. Even entertaining teens and adults who are accompanying the kids. The Peanuts Movie had me feeling joy but also sadness when Charlie Brown would fail, but in all it kept me rooting for Charlie Brown throughout the movie hoping he was finally going to beat the odds. Throughout the movie there were laughs whether it was Snoopy flying his plane finally trying to defeat the Red Baron or something funny happening with the peanut gang, there was never a dull moment. The Peanuts Movie has enough of its own emotional changes that's sure to keep anybody watching engaged from beginning to end. Its definitely a must see for any Charlie Brown fan out there no matter what the age, you will be sure to get a few giggles in as if you were still a kid when the timeless comics first came out.
The Interrupters is a 2011 film directed by Steve James that speaks volume on inner city violence. This film accurately portrays urban life and issues that arise from it. With brilliant cinematography, this film describes social problems, social norms, and inner city culture and demonstrates it through a strategically written and shot film. The Interrupters was informative, eye opening, touching, and relevant to today’s time. This is true because there is perhaps an even larger violence epidemic in the United States than when the film came out.

Setting out to find a way of saving their homes, The Goonies find a treasure map in the attic and set off in search for the treasure of the legendary pirate 'One-Eyed Willy' which is located beneath a abandoned restaurant.
The Muppet Movie is a highly self-aware musical comedy that challenges the concept of reality in the background of the film while delivering a classic road trip comedy that is highly reflective of 1970’s culture. The film begins with the muppets entering World Wide Studios to watch a screening of their first film, The Muppet Movie. The audience then focuses on the frame film that the characters are watching, which tells the story of how the muppets “more or less” met. The story begins with Kermit the Frog singing the opening number, The Rainbow Connection, alone in his swamp when a lost man advises him to go to Hollywood and become a star. Along the Way, Kermit meets Fozzie Bear, a failing stand-up comedian, who also dreams of heading west
The film that I watched was called The Bad News Bears. When I watched this film years ago, as a young teen I just saw it as a story about two baseball teams. One team, the Yankees, that had a good coach and played exceptionally well together. The other team The Bad News Bears, was just that bad. The players appeared to be similar to that of a group of misfits. These were the kids that will usually were chosen last in their gym class or just about anything else pertaining to sports. The Yankees started off winning most of their games because that’s what they did, win. At times, winning at any cost. The Bad News Bears, however started in the wrong direction. They lost their first few games by large margins while the other teams in
In the movie “Akeelah and the Bee”, Akeelah challenges herself through entering a spelling contest to win the nationals. Over thousands or of words in the dictionary, she memorizes them with the help of Mr. George, her family, and friends.
In a career that spanned nearly 50 years, Schulz drew more than 18,250 "Peanuts" comic strips, which expressed a droll philosophy through his trademark characters, including the hapless, angst-ridden Charlie Brown; Snoopy, a romantic, self-deluded beagle; piano-playing Schroeder; security-blanket toting Linus; and self-centered Lucy. No adult was ever pictured, though the garbled voice of a teacher or parent occasionally resonated in the background.
Poor Kids is a documentary that highlights a major issue the United States is suffering from. This issue is known as poverty, more specifically, childhood poverty. Peter and the Starcatcher, by Rick Elice, takes the audience on an adventurous journey through the sea and to a distant island were many different groups of people from different parts of the world are on the search for a trunk filled with treasure. Throughout the journey the audience gets to see a variety of characters that range from orphans to captains, pirates, natives, and even mermaids. The audience also witness confident, strong leaders who become heroes and create bonds of love and friendships towards the end of the show. I attended the Clarence Brown Theatre performance of Peter and the Starcatcher on September 16, 2017 and witness actor’s expressions of emotions and personalities through their movements. Some of the movements that stood out to me occurred in the characters of the boy, the pirates and the mermaids. Through the observations of their movements I got a chance to better understand those characters and their behaviors/wants.
The philosophy of parenting is a concept that all parents try to understand. When they realize what a parent needs to do to be successful, they employ their parenting strategy on their children. The ultimate goal is to raise their children to become successful and autonomous away from the security of home, wherever that might be. The reason why parenting styles differ is that each parent has a different definition of success. For some, success means going to an Ivy league college, while for others it just means to be happy in life no matter what lifestyle their child leads. The type of person produced is largely dependent on what parenting style that was used on them.
"You were my new dream//and you were mine". The film Tangled was one of the most well made films in history due to its use of camera techniques to convey more than the actor/actresses can say. The directors Nathan Greno and Byron Howard 's techniques made the film unforgettable. In addition, the actor/actresses Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, Donna Murphy and Ron Perlman brought it to life with their acting. It was a film with everything people love from romance to humor to good life lessons. It did what any good film does make you forget your troubles and escape reality for a certain amount of time. The film Tangled through its use of techniques such as establishing shot, medium shot, tracking shot, aerial shot, swish pan, reverse angle, low angle,
Walt Disney himself once said that he does “[...] not make films primarily for children [...].” Therefore, his ...
For this assignment, I decided to do my film review on To Kill a Mockingbird (Mulligan, R., & Pakula, A. (Directors). (1962). To Kill a Mockingbird[Motion picture on VHS]. United States of America.) I have a personal connection to this film because it is one of my most beloved novels by Harper Lee. I have never watched the film so it was a nice experience to see the characters I have loved for years come to life just before my eyes. The film particularly focuses on a white family living in the South of the United States in the 1930s. The two siblings, Jem and Scout Finch, undergo major changes while experiencing evil and injustice in their small town of Maycomb. Jem and Scout’s father is named Atticus and he is a well-respected man in the town as well as being a lawyer.
A movie that almost perfectly intertwines social work related issues and their various aspects into the storyline would be the 2009 movie The Blind Side. The movie follows Michael Oher; a boy living under harsh conditions at home that eventually lead him to be homeless. When spotted by a woman named Leigh Anne Tuohy, she takes him in and assists him in becoming a pro-football player (“The Blind Side (2009),” n.d.). The issues faced in the movie by Oher are reminiscent of issues dealt with by social workers, homelessness and child neglect being a few. For example, issues presented in the film that emphasizes social work-related problems are seen when Leigh goes to visit Michael’s mother, who is a drug addict, which is what led to Michael being
In 1941, the movie Dumbo became the fourth film in the Disney American Canon. This movie officially premiered on October 23, 1941 produced by Walt Disney Productions, released by RKO Radio Pictures, and recorded using the RCA system. During this era, the Disney studio started to experience financial trouble as Pinocchio and Fantasia did not succeed to Walt’s expectations in the box office. Walt Disney and his crew wanted to make sure that Dumbo would be the most emotional piece of work to date in order to help to studio into success. At 64 minutes, Dumbo is one of Disney 's shortest animated feature and a huge box office hit that had became iconic to WWII as it was hailed by critics and audiences as a joyous film, appropriate for such vulgar
Are we human if we don’t have a choice to choose between acting good or acting evil? A Clockwork Orange directed by Stanley Kubrick is a brutal film that entails many sociological meanings. Alex DeLarge and his “droogs” (gang) live in a derange society of “ultra-violence” and rape. Alex and his gang cause havoc around the town that leads to the “droogs” turning on Alex during a mischievous act on an innocent women and Alex getting arrested. While in prison he is chosen for “treatment” that is suppose to purify Alex and turn him into the “perfect citizen”. We’ve gone over many sociological concepts in class, but the three that I believe apply the most to this film are socialization, deviance, and resocialization.
