nterior Of The Pantheon. Standing in front of Pantheon door, the effect are overwhelming as Pantheon is very big building. On the entrance to the Pantheon there is huge empty space which makes you feel very small, and as historians describe it this is how you were supposed to feel in front of the god’s. Today you can have the same sensation as the Romans did two thousand years ago as the building still stands in Rome Italy. The space is a perfect sphere symbolizing the vault of heavens, the height of the dome is the same as its diameter which is 142 feet creating perfect balance and unique impression on people standing in the middle of it. The reason why it was designed to be round was so to place all gods at the same level of importance. Once standing in the middle of the Pantheon surrounding you is seven gods linked to the worship of planets, which to Romans were the moon, the sun, Saturn, Venus, Jupiter, Mars and Mercury. The Pantheon’s greatness mainly comes from its unique dome, even today the biggest brick dome ever built. Also rather strange for the time Pantheon has no windows and the only source of light is from above streaming natural light down towards midday of Pantheon. The Oculus was much more then decorative and impressive engineering, Oculus was functional as it let out smoke from holy fires that were regularly performed at the Pantheon. The common misleading belief is that the Oculus was built to be rain proof is not true as that was just a myth created by Romans as the belief was that god’s live in the Pantheon.
