Creative Writing with Outsiders Terms In the morning I came to school and I realized that we had a math test today. It would be a disgrace if I failed this test in front of my parents. When I was walking on the field to school I saw my friend and he roguishly punched my shoulder saying “Are you ready for the test?” and as he mentioned that I was quivering as I got to my first class. I got to my first class and it was easy and same as the homework. After my first class I went to my next class and I heard some people muttered behind my seat about their scores on the math test. The ornery students got sent outside for not paying attention in class and which made me winced. As class ended I went to my next period which was PE. Me and my friend were …show more content…
both in that period together and he came up to me and then talked about the math test.
He said to me that he passed with an A and I felt incredulous when I heard that from him, because in truth I am smarter than him at math, but when he passed I felt dumbfounded. After doing my laps, pushups, and sit ups I gallantly walked to my next class because I now know that I can pass the test. After two other classes it was lunch time I quickly ate my lunch and ran over to the library to study the test before lunch ended. I felt like I was being tortured; I felt like I was going to scowl at my paper just because I was struggling with this one unfathomable problem. Then, a student noticed I was struggling on the problem, so he decided to help me and he showed the steps of how to answering the math questions. I finally got it! I thanked the student, the bell rung, and I went over to math class. The test was given out to us and
it was complete silence. Since I knew how to answer these savvy questions I cautiously and carefully answered them. As I finished I wait in a long line with several reckless students. When I was next up in line I gave him the paper and I watched him put my grade in and I was about to bawl if I he gave me a D or even an F. As he wrote it down what I saw was a miracle to me, it was an A. Finally, at the end of passing my test I happily walked home and I celebrated from this success. In conclusion, taking tests are difficult at first, but they become easier when you study and figure out the steps to answering them.
In chapter one we are introduced to our narrator, Ponyboy. Ponyboy is raised by his two older brothers Darry and Soda. They’re all apart of a gang called the “greasers” which is joined by Dally, Johnny, Two-bit, and Steve. There is another group called “ socs” which stands for socials, and everyone in that group is very wealthy. One day Ponyboy got jumped by a socs group, but luckily Darry was there to help before anything too serious happened. The first element of literature is characterization. Ponyboy is a keen observer, trying to make sense of the complexities of those around him. At the beginning of the story, he stops and spends several pages giving us brief character description on Steve, Two-Bit, Dally, and Johnny. This is also known as direct characterization. He tells us that Steve is "cocky and smart" ( Hinton 9). Two-Bit can 't stop joking around and goes to school for "kicks" (Hinton 10) rather than to learn. Dallas, he says, is "tougher, colder, meaner" ( Hinton 10) than the rest of them.
According to Chris Pine, “The only thing you sometimes have control over is perspective. You don’t have control over your situation. But you have a choice about how you view it.” This quote means you can choose how you view people and things. This relates to the Outsiders because the novel is about how you choose to view people. The Outsiders is about how people shouldn’t judge others based on stereotypes and they should get to know them first.
The Outsiders identified the 60’s, often there would be violence between groups and often involving a group’s social class. For instance, the tensions between the Socs and Greasers is violent, and this will lead to Bob’s death, Johnny’s death, as well as many injuries throughout both gangs. The book The Outsiders is written by S.E. Hinton and is portrayed through the eyes of a high school student in Tulsa, OK where S.E. Hinton grew up. Hinton began writing The Outsiders in 1965 at the age of 17 and the book was finally published in 1967 when she was 19. The difference in perspective upon the society and social class creates issues throughout The Outsiders and they assume the problems will be solved with violence,
Teens, in particular, have always sought to separate themselves into different social groups. Whether they’re named the nerds and the jocks or the preps and the rebels, one group has always been “in” and one group has always been “out”. It’s just the names and uniforms have changed(Doc A). This has never been more apparent in the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Set in the 1960’s in Tulsa, Oklahoma, two groups of teens —the no-good greasers and the rich Socs— are at constant odds with each other. While it may be easy to tell who are the outsiders in the novel at first glance, lines become blurred as the reader gets deeper into the novel. It’s true the Socs and/or the greasers may be the outsiders referred to in the title of the novel, however, the title truly pertains to the individuals who see beyond the divide of the 2 groups aforementioned above.
2. The title of this book relates to the story, because in the book, Ponyboy and Johnny are “outsiders.” They can be thought of as Outsiders because they are labeled Greasers although they do not act like hoodlums, like the rest of the Greasers. They are thought of as Greasers just because they live on the East Side of town, and because they slick back their hair. But Ponyboy and Johnny are different then all of the other Greasers because they show their emotions, and are sensitive.
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is about two gangs, the Socs and the greasers who are fighting each other. In the book there are many themes but the most important one is “Stay Gold’. Now on to my thesis statement. My thesis statement is “Stay Gold”, that means nothing lasts forever and you should enjoy the moment.
In films, film-makers make deliberate use of certain techniques to influence views to make a certain viewpoint. In the film ‘The Outsiders’, the director Francis Ford Coppola believes nothing gold can stay when it comes to teenagers. He believes that the strength and beauty in teenagers can never stay concrete because it is ruined by adulthood. In the film Coppola shows and represents two groups, the "socs" and the "greasers". "Soc" is pronounced like society, and means just that: money, nice cars, nice homes and a bright future. "Greasers" are the poor kids from the bad side of town with no future and no real hope. Coppola explores how cultural assumptions underpin the ways in which teenagers are represented in films. There are three key factors that Coppola uses to this effect in the film: a well-built plot, strong vocabulary and various motifs.
What is “The Outsiders”? “The Outsiders” is a book with two groups, the socs (short for social) and the greasers. These two groups hate each other. The socs are always ganging up on the greasers like jumping them or beating them up and stealing their stuff. The socs are the more wealthy ones. The moral/lesson of the outsiders is to have loyalty and help others out even if there Isn’t anything in it for you, you have to stick together with the people you love and care about and do good for them because in the end everyone is in it together.
Have you ever felt judged or marginalized only because of the situation you were born in?Having to walk on the street wondering if you’re safe. Have you ever been the one that gets made fun of? The laughing stock? The uncool one? The one with the bad luck? In S.E Hinton's The Outsiders, the Greasers are all of those things. It’s a dark world they live in but they have no choice. Although the narrator, Ponyboy, may not lead the best life, he still tries to make the most of it. Heroism, social class and survival are some of the most transcendent themes demonstrated in S.E Hinton’s The Outsiders.
Throughout life individuals face many challenges testing their values and personality one situation at a time. In the evocative novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton themes of growing up and innocence are shown. Ponyboy is not your average 14 year old he is part of a gang known to many as the Greasers. He encounters many situations testing his values and beliefs. Having lost both his parents recently he and his brothers stick together like a true family but this relationship is tested when Darry hits Ponyboy. He also experiences the loss several close friends in a very short period of time. Throughout this novel, Ponyboy encounters many life changing experiences that prove he is a dynamic character.
As soon as you start turning the pages, the world around you has transformed into the world of Greasers and Socs. This world is in a book that is The Outsiders, written by S.E. Hinton. The Outsiders is still a great read today because of its powerful messages, and its wonderful writing.
The Outsiders is about the life of a 14-year-old boy. The book tells the story of Ponyboy “Curtis” and his struggles with right and wrong in a society in which he believes that he is an outsider. Ponyboy and his two brothers, Darrel (Darry), who is 20, and Sodapop, who is 16, have recently lost their parents in an automobile accident. Pony and Soda are allowed to stay under Darry's guardianship as long as they all behave themselves. The boys are greasers, a class term that refers to the young men on the East Side, the poor side of town. The greasers' rivals are the Socs, short for Socials, who are the "West-side rich kids."
I was taking AP World History, my first AP class. Keeping up my grades in the class was one of my biggest concerns, but surprisingly, it turned out to be a relatively laid-back class without much homework. Throughout the year, the class was mainly notes and document analysis. The only difficult part of the class was the tests. They were long and arduous with several vague questions based on specific parts of the curriculum that we had only gone over lightly. The course became more vigorous as the exam date drew closer; we began writing more essays, the tests we took grew longer, there were after school study sessions, and even a mock
