In The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, The Main character Ponyboy is introduced and develops as he faces many harsh problems and tragedies that change him and his personality throughout the book him and his gang called the greasers are being targeted by the Socs for no apparent reason. The only big difference between them is that the greasers are poor kids and the Socs are rich kids. The Outsiders is a novel about, a gang of teens and young adults that are called greasers and another gang of young adults and teens called the Socs. The difference between the groups is the greasers are poor kids that live in poor conditions and Socs the really rich kids. There was another column about just Darry and Soda and me: how Darry worked on two jobs at once and made good at both of them, and about his outstanding record at school; it mentioned Sodapop dropping out of school so we could stay together, and that I made the honor roll at school all the time and might be a future track star. (Oh, yeah, I forgot--- I'm on the A-squad track team, the youngest one. I'm a good runner.) Then it said we shouldn't be separated after we had worked so hard to stay together. The meaning of that last line finally hit me. "You mean..."--- I swallowed hard--- "that they're thinking about putting me and Soda in a boys' home or something?"(HInton 49 and 91). This part of the novel shows Ponyboy ‘s is shock and astonished and because of this makes Ponyboy worried about what can or is going to happen to him, he has 3 of his most biggest fears come alive The 1st one is him and Soda being put into a boys home the second is going to jail and the third is the Socs getting revenge or even killing one of the greasers with all these thoughts going through Ponyboys head throughout the book it continuously affects him and his emotions and has him scared for a while making his personality being feared person. …show more content…

"And he was a friend of ours. We don't like nobody killing our friends, especially greasers." Big deal. I busted the end off my bottle and held on to the neck and tossed away my cigarette "You get back into your car or you'll get split." They looked kind of surprised, and one of them backed up. "I mean it" I hopped off the car. "I've had about all I can take from you guys." I started toward them, holding the bottle the way Tim Shepard holds a switchblade out a“ (Hinto 145). This part of the novel shows Ponyboy's personality went from scared of Socs to standing up for himself because in the beginning of the book Ponyboy would not even budge too run or fight his way out he knew that when he was caught and stopped there was nothing he could do about it but now he actually threatened to hurt the Socs that approach them and the Socs didn't even threaten him. In conclusion, Ponyboys personality is Neutral or himself in the beginning weak in the middle as tragedies and problems which are his fears come alive and Fearless at the end after he faces all his fears and this can clearly be seen through his thoughts,his speech and his emotions and actions all throughout the
