When I first opened the GSP application, I had only two things on my mind: Gene Oney and a writing entry prompt. I was hoping Gene Oney would write my community recommendation but as for the prompt, I was lost. After nearly three weeks I finally made my decision. I felt this prompt would reveal the most about me as a person for any book can show the world about a person. I looked over my bookshelf in search when at the end of the row, I saw it. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, a book that changed my entire outlook on life, fit the bill perfectly. From this, I hold Ponyboy to the highest degree. When I read the book, I was the same age as Pony and from the first few pages to the last, I completely related to his Attitude of life. Not only that
The book “the Outsiders” (S.E. Hinton) is based on the story of two gangs the Greasers and the Socs. These two groups of individuals have conflicts. the Greasers are the East side working class people. The Socs are the West side rich kids. they drive around in a blue mustang, they “jump” the greasers and injure them purely because they are lesser than the Socs. The Greasers are a interesting bunch of individuals. the story is based from their perspective. They aren’t rich but they get by, they steal they fight they smoke but they aren’t bad guys.
According to Chris Pine, “The only thing you sometimes have control over is perspective. You don’t have control over your situation. But you have a choice about how you view it.” This quote means you can choose how you view people and things.This relates to the Outsiders because the novel is about how you choose to view people. The Outsiders is about how people shouldn’t judge others based on stereotypes and they should get to know them first.

The novel The Outsiders transformed how I view life every day from various perspectives. I'll now notice kids who remind me of the Greasers that I never paid attention to before. I notice how they will often be looked at by society. Ponyboy and his two brothers, Darrel (Darry), who is 20, and Sodapop, who is 16, have recently lost their parents in an automobile accident. Pony and Soda are allowed to stay under Darry's guardianship as long as they all behave themselves. The Outsiders is a phenomenal novel by S.E Hinton. Firstly, The Outsiders is about family, friends and looking out for each other. For example, Darry is hard on Ponyboy and Soda but he only does it cause he’s looking out for them, they’re the only family he has left. Secondly The Outsiders is about heroism, Greasers are not a cold hearted gang, they care and help other people out. In one of the scenes Johnny and Ponyboy save kids from a burning church, risking there lives. Thirdly The Outsiders is about growing up and that innocents can be lost at any moment. He started to write The Outsiders when he was fifteen years old when he had seen a “greaser” walking down the street and stopped and jumped by a bunch of kids. He found himself going home in outrage and writing up a story based on the scene that had unraveled before him. The theme to me is There is no line that separates us. In the story The Outsiders the two main groups who are figuratively and literally on the opposite sides of town, the East side and the West side where the prime meridian of the city separates the Greasers and the Socs. When Pony and Johnny are at the movies and stop Dallas Winston from annoying the two Soc girls in front of them, the girls start to talk them and the boys realize that Socs aren’t very different from Greasers, besides the slicked back hair and the fancy blue Mustangs. Another example is Randy, he was a the right-hand man of the big Soc, Bob. Randy was a mean guy at the beginning of the story but as it progresses he starts to realize that just because of your parent(‘s)
The Outsider written by S. E. HInton is a magnificent novel. Full of different types of emotions, and characters. It tells a story of a young teen and his buddies and life around his town. It’s both heartwarming, angering, and mournful. It’s overall a great book. I thought it was a good read. It just depicts what life was kind of like back then, gives you an insight on the past. Insight on people's’ feelings and lives.
n chapter 8, the nursers finally gave in and let me and Two-Bit see Johnny, but right in the middle of our conversation Johnny suddenly passed out and the nursers rushed in and kicked me out. Johnny’s mother came by as well but of course after all that she has put him through he refused to see her. After me and Two-Bit had to leave Johnny we went to see Dallas . He was really excited to see us and told us how he wanted to get out and how the nursers wouldn’t let him smoke a cigarette . Dallas also gave us a talk on how we need to win the rumble tonight and Two-Bit also gave Dallas his prized possession : his switchblade .
