The Outsider
The Outsider written by S.E. Hinton. is known as the first Young Adult Literature novel that expresses different themes and how these themes can generally relate to the 21st Century. This novel consists of various themes such as Conflict, Empathy and Childhood innocence that will be discussed in this academic essay.

This Young Adult Literature novel is an outstanding example for young readers whom can relate with the themes. The novel captures the reader to identify between what is right and wrong and indicates on how different aspects of life can influence your perspective.

Childhood innocence are shown in The Outsider through Ponyboy’s daydreams about sunsets. This shows that Ponyboy still has a part of his childhood innocence that he kept for example. Chapter 3 Ponyboy thinks that it is funny that the sunrise and sunset that he sees from the back steps are the same that Cherry see on her patio. He came wondering that “Maybe the two different worlds we lived in weren’t so different, we saw the same sunset.” Ponyboy never lost his sense of childhood.

The Outsider novel contains various characteristics of the Young Adult Literature that makes this novel a brilliant example for young readers today. Some characteristics are.
