The Opening Sequenes of The Mummy ‘Didn’t your mother ever tell you not to try and bring back the dead’? Flesh eating scarabs, action packed features and humorous comments you cannot help laugh at! Genuine romance that will sweep you off your feet, ‘The Mummy’ has it all! This outstanding film directed by Stephen Sommers is guaranteed to entertain an audience of all ages. Firstly, let’s look at Rick O’ Connell. Enough said! Tall, broad, a handsome hero. Any female viewer will find him attractive as they gaze at his burly body. Men idolise him, especially when he is willing to lose his life to save the woman of his dreams (‘gullible Evie’)! Medium and close up shots settle upon brawny Rick as he battles resolutely through ‘Hamunaptra’, on a nerve-racking quest to find ‘the Egyptian curse of the Mummy’. This film will seem very stereotypical to an audience as it fits into the category of action / adventure films, although it also has a certain beauty to it; panoramic shots in the film are all amazing as they show superb shots of sapphire coloured clear midnights skies shining on the remote deserts; to the wonderfully hand crafted statues and pyramids of Egypt. There is the fascination of an ancient culture in this film - powerful love stories, and the enjoyment of villainous characters. I am sure men and women of all ages have a fantasy of being a particular character, especially in ‘the Mummy’, whether either sex dreams of being ‘damsel in distress’ Evie, or perhaps the ambiguous behaviour of the Maji; who seems to be a villain but is a true hero -The film is a ‘must-see’ for an audience of all ages! Beginning in a luxury locat... ... middle of paper ... ...hese revolting creatures. ‘The Mummy’ contains high-speed chases where Evie, Rick and companions are being pursued through sinister tunnels about to be eaten alive by scurrying scarabs! This would have the audience griping tightly on any kind of furniture they can get their hands on, as the tension build up is at a hurried pace! (If the audience thought that was a scary scene, wait till Rick arrives head-to-head with the formidable mummy Imotep)! Both men and women would enjoy this type of action film as it has everything they both may want. A section of romance for the ladies with the one and only hansom Rick; or for the male gender a bit of mind-strangling action to get their heart racing! ‘The Mummy’ is fantastic, out-of-this-world and unquestionably the best action/adventure film the human race has ever seen!
Term Paper: Coffin of Tentkhonsu The Egyptians during this period took ample time and detail on the mummification process to ensure a successful transition from the netherworld to rebirth. The Coffin of Tentkhonsu, 1025-980 B.C., it’s a depiction of how the Egyptians valued and honored their elite members of society, as well as their gods. The Coffin of Tentkhonsu, itself dates back to the III intermediate period in Egyptian culture. The Egyptian believe was to join Osiris, whom was believed to have ascended to Netherworld and accomplished eternal life.
The movie starts out with an opening battle between the well-equipped Roman army and a Germanic tribe defending their lands. Russell Crowe is the main character in the movie and he plays a roman general named Maximus. Maximus is a good hearted warrior with valor and honor that is constantly displayed in the epic. He is loved by the roman people and the Emperor Marcus Aurelius. The Roman army led by General Maximus defeats the ragged Germans in the opening scene. After a successful march through Germany, Maximus has a meeting with the emperor. The emperor tells the general that Maximus will rule Rome after Emperor Aurelius's death instead of Aurelius' son Commodus. Maximus being a humble gracious man is shocked that a common general could rule Rome. Commodus kills his father in anger and believes he has been betrayed by his father. He then orders the death of Maximus and his family in his rage.
I also like the character of Roderigo and the deviance he brought to the movie. He was almost his own subculture in a way. It never really seemed like he followed any sort of norm or shared belief. I think he just did what his heart told him to do. It is also interesting that he is a deviant in different situations depending on what point of view you are using.
The supporting players do well, though, specifically the two villains. James Mason is fantastic as Phillip Vandamm, the chief antagonist. He brings the perfect amount of collected cool to the role, but also adds a touch of menace to the character. Martin Landau, in an early role, also does well as Leonard, Vandamm’s right hand man. He’s the more sinister of the two and conveys it well, but he is also charismatic in a mysterious sort of
The characters in the movie are bob Parr who is Mr. Incredible acted by Craig T.Nelson, Helen Parr acted by Holly Hunter, Lucius Best acted by Samuel L.Jackson, Syndrome played by Jason Lee, Wallace Shawn played Gilbert Huph, and Dash Parr who is played by Spencer Fox. In the beginning Mr. Incredible gets fired from his job without Helen noticing and sneaks out to do some super hero stuff and says that he is doing
The Use of Techniques in The Mummy In the extract from ‘The Mummy’, a wide range of techniques are employed in order to convey certain aspects to the audience. The ways in which the camera is used have great effect on the impression given; for example the minimal movement, including slow pans, in order to not detract from the impressive nature of the exotic location – a staple for films of the action/adventure genre. The vastness of the desert is also emphasized by the use of wide shots, in which the screen is filled by the sandstorm and the heroes’ plane appears greatly vulnerable; this also makes use of another genre convention – the powerful odds which must be overcome. Another use of the wide shot is to provide a backdrop for the film’s spectacular special effects. Medium close-ups and close-ups (CUs) are used to focus on the expressions of the actors, such as when the female lead kisses the Mummy, and on the building psychological tension, for example the female lead’s concern for the occupants of the damaged aeroplane.

Within “The Mummy’s Foot” by Théophile Gautier, there are a wide range of themes that are introduced. One theme that is addressed is that messing with the unknown can lead to uncertainty. Another one is that some things are more valuable than they appear. Those two themes are related to each other throughout the story as a young Frenchmen encounters this mysterious mummy’s foot to utilize it for a paperweight, but only to realize that there is more value to it than it appears to have.

The Book was originally intended as a set of spells and incantations meant to insure safe passage for the soul of a deceased person into the Underworld. Some of the ending chapters include instructions on not dying a second time, meaning how not to die in the underworld and thus having no chance of being reborn or living a full afterlife. The original text--at least, the bits and pieces that modern scholars possess--consists of a set of hymns, beginning with the Hymn to Osiris. This hymn is meant to call up the king of the underworld and make him aware of the presence of the soul. After summoning Osiris, the presiding priest would begin a series of ceremonies designed to give the spirit all the faculties it possessed in life, such as speech, movement of the limbs, internal organ functions, and sight. After these rites were completed, the corpse was removed to the tomb where prophetic portions of the Book were read.
Do you really know about mummies? Mummies were one of the most important things in the ancient time. There are many incredible steps to make a mummy. All of the steps to make a mummy are important and if you miss a step the mummy would not come out how it’s supposed to. Mummies are amazing, important, and weird.
The important point to note from this analysis would be that not only is it the time this movie was made in that has influenced the character of the anti-hero, it is also the fact that there is no villain against whom he is pitted. There is never any scope for him to indulge in any violence, or scheming and plotting. The most he does is run away from the police, which he does without harming them, just being quicker. He never threatens, or argues, or even speaks in raised volumes (except for the one instance). Except for his line of work, he is whiter than even the white-hat.
Having faced the ultimate betrayal by her mother and the horrendous abuse by her father, Toni Maguire shares her story in the nonfictional book Don’t Tell Mummy. Toni Maguire’s book Don’t tell Mummy was one of UK’s bestsellers in 2007. On her WordPress blog Toni talked about her inspiration behind the book, stating “Writing about my experiences has helped me deal with the past and realize that there is no shame in being victimized.” She wrote a sequel to Don’t Tell Mummy called When Daddy Comes Home which talks about the emotional trauma and abuse she experienced on his return and how her mom continued to neglect and betray her. She later states on her blog that where children are victims, adults need to be survivors. In the story Don’t Tell Mummy Antoinette displays the courage of a survivor.
