The story Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy of two kids who regardless of their family feud, fall in love. Romeo and Juliet is a play by William Shakespeare which takes us back to the Renaissance era and tells of a tragic love story. Because of the love both Romeo and Juliet had for each other, they suffered tragic consequences. In the end of the play both characters die because of their love. There are many characters that are to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet such as, Lord Capulet, the Prince, and Friar John. Although some may argue about who could be blamed, the person that would mostly be blamed is the nurse. The nurse is the character that is responsible for their deaths, because she encourages Juliet to fall in love with Romeo, she does not prevent Romeo and Juliet’s relationship, and she keeps secrets from everyone. …show more content…
The nurse is the person that is most to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
One reason why the nurse is responsible for this is because she enables Juliet to experience passionate feelings for Romeo. She complimented Romeo when she knew it was wrong. “Your love says, like an honest gentleman, and courteous, and a kind handsome, and I warrant, and a virtuous,” (2.5.40). Instead of saying negative things about Romeo, the nurse says compliments about him. She should be saying bad things to discourage Juliet from falling in love with him. One of the reasons that the nurse is responsible for the deaths is because of all the good things the nurse said about Romeo, therefore causing Juliet to fall in love with him. This causes them to have a relationship which later lead to their
death. The nurse also could've prevented Romeo and Juliet’s relationship. If it wasn't for her they wouldn't have gotten married and they wouldn't have died for each other. “Then hid you hence to Friar Laurence’ cell; There stays a husband to make you a wife: Now comes the wanton Blood up in your cheeks, They'll be in scarlet straight at any news. Hie you to the Church” (2.5.41). The nurse was behind everything. She had the power to prevent all of this from happening, but instead she didn't. She helps Juliet marry Romeo while she could've simply prevented the marriage. Without the marriage happening the death could have potentially been prevented. The nurse also keeps secrets from Lady and Lord Capulet. “Your lady mother is coming to your chamber: The day is broke; be wary, look about” (3.5.60). She keeps Romeo and Juliet’s relationship a secret. She could've warned Lord Capulet that something was going on between Romeo and Juliet and everything could've been prevented. Because of all the things the nurse did, Romeo and Juliet fell in love causing their death. This love tragedy could have all been prevented if it were for the nurse. Because of encouraging Romeo to fall in love with Juliet, not preventing their relationship and keeping it a secret the nurse is the character that is mostly to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. In the story, the nurse serves as Juliet's nanny, but also as her best friend. Juliet tells the nurse all her secrets and Juliet really trusts her. The nurse serves as a woman figure in Juliet's life. With the help from the nurse, Romeo and Juliet fall in love with each other causing their death to what is today the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet.

In the story “ The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet “ the main characters get themselves in a pickle by falling in love knowing that their families are sworn enemies. Soon Romeo kills Juliet's cousin by accident, Juliet drinks a potion, some words get twisted and at the end both of the lovebirds end up dead. At the end of the story both families are devastated that both of their children pass away, but there are also many unanswered questions. The Nurse possesses many qualities. For example, she is very hearty towards Juliet, kind, protective, compassionate and a loving lady. In some parts of the play The Nurse can be long-winded, insensitive, arrogant, insecure and stupid at times but she loves Juliet very much, partially as she imagines that Juliet is a substitute for her own daughter Susan. She has a bawdy sense of humor, which brings out the naturalness of sex and childbearing. This is seen when she tells Juliet to look for love, - “Go girl, seek happy nights to happy days';. This displays a realistic attitude to love. Such bawdy realism is, like the ribaldry of Mercutio and company, a contrast with the tender, romantic and passionate feelings of Romeo and Juliet. The Nurse is a practical but rather stupid woman at times. She loves Juliet like her own child. Throughout the play The Nurse is very talkative. She will usually do what she believes is right or what Juliet wants, like secretly meeting with Romeo and arranging the wedding of Romeo and Juliet.
This shows that the Nurse is following orders from Juliet, because she thinks it will make Juliet happy. Although she does, she does not seem to be bothered about the damage she could cause in the future. This is one reason why the Nurse could be to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Another point in the play where the Nurse contributes to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet is when the proposal of Paris comes along. At this stage in the play, Romeo has been banished.

Because of the Friar’s yearning to end the Montague-Capulet feud, the ultimatum imposed by Capulet to his daughter and their superficial relationship, and the Nurse’s support and betrayal, Romeo and Juliet chose to end their lives. The Friar’s desire to end the feud by marrying the star-crossed lovers, and his full confidence in his plans, were unwise and indirectly caused the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Capulet’s disconnection from Juliet and his ultimatum causes Juliet to consider suicide as a way out of her situation. The Nurse supporting Romeo and Juliet’s marriage, only to betray her later, also contributed to their deaths.
