According to research, these social media platforms provide a great field where businesses are able to directly interact with their customers. This thus has made it possible for such businesses that have adopted the use of social media to receive feedback from customers regarding the quality of their services and products. This is a positive effect of social media that have made it easy for many businesses across America to develop their customer base (Laroche, Habibi, Richard & Sankaranarayanan, 2012). Advertisements and other important information is passed to the target population through social media which is also considered to be effective in the long run. People, especially teenagers using social media platforms are not monitored by adults. This means that the teenagers have the capability of using the social media however they would want to (Shirky, 2011). Since they are not restricted to the content they can upload or download from the social media, it is most likely that they have access to a large database of obscene materials (Perloff, 2014). For instance, most of the teenagers would tend to post naked picture of themselves on social media. The main motive of doing this is guided by their need to show off their bodies to other social media users (Flew, 2007). This is a situation and behavior that can be considered immoral. In the past, people did not have social media and it was rare to even show a part of the skin to the public. This culture and morals have however been eroded since the inception of social media platforms. Likewise, social media users can download obscene content to their gadgets without any limitation (Shirky, 2011). This issue should be considered serious by most parents in the United States. Exposing children to obscene materials can continue to ruin the morals of the future generations which as a result continue to erode the cultures
Schools and programs can have assemblies and discuss the intent of people who sext and the consequences of sexting, whether they are minor or severe. The severe consequences of sexting or posting sexually explicit photos online can be psychologically damaging (ex. emotional trauma to the subject of the photo), especially if the distribution of the photo ends up in the wrong hands, or to an unintended audience. It is known that there is a "social disapproval over sexting, which causes many teens to not report such incidents (Terry, 2013, p. 153). Therefore we cannot be sure of how widespread the act of sexting is, in an accurate manner. Findings vary among researchers regarding the actual frequency of sexting as can be seen in numerous

The use of social networking sites is rising at great rates. According to a report conducted by the Pew Internet & American Life Project in 2012, ninety-five percent of individuals aged 12-17 use the internet; and eighty-one percent of those use social network sites (Pew Interest). Although it is known that social media can have a useful impact on lives, often times people forget that with a positive comes a negative. The continual use of social network sites will impact teen lives more negatively than positively because they can cause huge distractions from valuable and critical pursuits like education; they can also cause mental health issues and a reduction in communication skills.
With technology becoming easier and easier to use and in part due to the high sexual emphasis in the American culture, men and women are being exposed to pornography earlier and earlier, with the average age being about 12 for men and 13 for women (Gilkerson). These children easily keep their internet wanderings secret from their less technologically savvy parents, as about 62% of teens say their parents know little or nothing about the websites they visit (San Diego Court).
Social media is so popular that according to a recent article published by forbes.com, “72% of American adults are currently using social media sites; that figure has gone up 800% in just 8 years”(Olenski). Social networking was originally created to simply reconnect people with old high school pals, but in recent years it has evolved into a completely different operation. When social media first originated it was also intended for adult usage, which has in recent years expanded into the usage of all ages. Social media can create a negative affect on lives because it has been proven to be a dangerous addiction, for it takes away interpersonal relationships that are essential in life, and it has been proven to prevent people from being productive in life.
Social media has impacted everyone that has used it some point in his or her life. Since the world is increasing in technology advances, so is social media which can be good and bad. Technology has made a huge difference in the world and definitely how people are doing things now. Yes, the Internet can be good for the majority of things we use it for such as finding research, keeping in touch with family or friends who are far away, and saving time and money. Others like to take advantage of social media and use it in a way that can hurt people; it may not hurt them physically, but it can hurt them emotionally. Examples of how some people use the Internet in a bad way include cyberbullying, identity theft, or cyberstalking. Social media has impacted the Millennial generation for sure.
This world has become immersed in online media from socializing on networking sites to seeking information on search engines. People of all ages have become reliant on online media, but the most engaged users are the younger, more easily impacted generations. Although there are many positive uses for online media, there are many negative uses as well. Unfortunately, it is all too easy for these negative effects to impede upon the perceptions of adolescents. Some countries have been trying to reduce this effect by expelling the inappropriate content of online media ("Influence on Children Media...”). However, in the United States, children are thrown in the waves, expected to stay afloat in this massive sea, but many are being dragged under the surface by the nefarious temptations media creates. Content that is not appropriate for the young, growing minds of children are easily accessible; a myriad of devices may be used to access this material, all at the click of a button. Without adult content filters on online media, adolescents of various ages are exposed to dangerous conceptions. A world of pornography, violence, and public humiliation lay in the user’s fingertips.
"Fayetteville, N.C.(AP)-- When authorities discovered that a high school couple had sent each other nude selfies, the two 16 year-olds were plunged into a legal morass with the potential to be branded as sex offenders for decades"(Jonathan Drew and Mitch Weiss, Sexting Case Highlights Quandary Over Child Porn Laws). Many minors send these imageries on a regular basis, since sex is permissible at the age of 16 in most states. Punishments used on these teenagers vary by state but are highly controversial and judged in the media and press. Teenagers face this problem on a circadian basis, and frequently do not even know this activity is illegal.

Social media has created a social problem in society and it is distorting how people are communicating with each other face to face. Social media in today’s day is seen as a worldwide antisocial epidemic amongst the younger generation and a few older adults born in the millennial. Social media is notably used more by the younger people in our society and around the world, considering that technology is more accessible and easier to use for them. Teenagers and adults are so wrapped up in social media that is runs their lives every day. Constantly people are checking their phones for the latest on social networks. Social media has caused our generation to have a lot less social interactions. Instead of meeting someone and talking with them face to face social media has made it easier to communicate with someone from behind a further distance, behind a screen. Angela Fowler stated,
The social media is one of the most common means of communication and pretty much of knowing anything and everything around the world these days, and it is growing very rapidly. It changes and affects each person in a different way, or ways. Some may argue that social media has a bad influence on children and young adults, while most people see that the social media has a more positive effect on them than a negative one. Social media is basically the new way of keeping in touch with everything and everyone, and of even strengthening bonds between each other. This essay will argue that social media has improved communication between people, and has also improved the means of communication between them.
