Claire Culwell’s birth mother found out she was pregnant at the young age of thirteen, thinking she was carrying only one baby in her womb. Claire’s mother grew up in a broken home and her mother forced her to get an abortion at five months. Claire’s mother believed the abortion was successful, so she continued on with her life. But four weeks later, a friend told her something seemed off and said she should go back to the doctor. That’s when she found out she was still pregnant. Claire survived, but unfortunately, her twin did not. Just two weeks later, Claire was born. She weighed only three pounds, two ounces and suffered from clubbed feet and dislocated hips due to the abortion of her twin. Claire’s mother put her up for adoption. She spent two and a half months in the hospital on life support.
After being released from the hospital, complications from the abortion still affected Claire. She had to have casts to correct her clubbed feet and a harness on her hips to help put them back into place. For the next couple years, Claire was put into several casts, even body casts, to help put her back together. She says “My life is a testimony that there are wonderful alternatives to abortion (such as adoption in my case) and an accident/unwanted child still deserves life, even a child with disabilities...The abortion still affects me today. All that to say, life is still worth it. If my life can touch just one person who has had an abortion or considering an abortion or adoption, then I am fulfilling my purpose in the pro-life movement.” (liveactionnews.org)
I do not support abortion. I believe it is murder and takes away the life of an innocent baby who had no choice and no chance at life. I chose this topic because I want...

In my opinion, abortion should only be legal if the mother was raped or her life is threatened if she continues the pregnancy. There are so many negative effects and the way abortions are performed is just cruel. It shouldn’t be used like birth control but it should be used in emergency situations like rape or medical issues that could potentially kill the mother. (wikipedia.org using information and colors from abortion-pre1973.png by Patstuart who credited stateline.org). I do believe abortion is cruel, but I also believe that it’s cruel to force a woman who was raped to carry a child that was forced on her.
With all the negative physical effects from hemorrhaging to death and psychological effects from depression to PTSD these are the reasons why expecting mothers who are considering abortion should look into other options.
Marie had just traveled from her hometown of Ville Rose, where discarding your child made you wicked, to the city of Port-Au-Prince, where children are commonly left on the street. Marie finds a child that she thinks could not be more beautiful, “I thought she was a gift from Heaven when I saw her on the dusty curb, wrapped in a small pink blanket, a few inches away from a sewer as open as a hungry child’s yawn” (79). Marie has suffered many miscarriages, so she takes this child as if it were her own, “I swayed her in my arms like she was and had always been mine” (82). Marie’s hope for a child has paid off, or so it seems. Later, it is revealed that the child is, in fact, dead, and Marie fabricated a story to sanction her hopes and distract her from the harsh reality of her life, “I knew I had to act with her because she was attracting flies and I was keeping her spirit from moving on…

Talking about abortion brings out an emotional response in many women. This is because having an abortion takes a massive emotional toll on some women. As Nanyjo Mann said, three weeks after having an abortion, “I became preoccupied with the thoughts of death. I fantasized about how I would die. My baby struggled for two hours” (Reardon, 1987, p. xviii). In the forward of the book “Aborted Women, Silent No More” Nanyjo, a women telling her story of abortion, goes on to tell about feeling unstable with herself after having an abortion. She wanted to prove to herself that destroying others didn’t hurt, but it does (Reardon, 1987, p. xix-xx). Continuing in reading Nanyjo’s story, she tells all of the effects and feelings she went through after having an abortion including stress, depression and low self esteem. Any girl under the age of 18 would have an even harder time dealing with this type of stress. Teenagers are already seeking their identity and worry about their grades, looks, and peer acceptance. Going through the post abortion stress all by themselves would be overwhelming and potentially put them at risk for mental breakdown.
At some point in a woman's life, she may think of the idea of having a child. Some young girls are taught at a young age that when she grows up, someday she can have a family of her own if she chooses. When I was a child, I remember my mother and other womanly influences telling me that when I'm older, I might have a family of my own; and in result of this, ever since I was little, I have planned out how many children I want to have, and my expectations of my family life. However, while many women see themselves having children someday, and understand the process of carrying a child, some women might be in the dark about the complications that can come along with pregnancy. Life can throw curve balls, and everything that may have been planned, and thought out clearly might not go as smoothly as expected. There are many complications that can occur from pregnancy for mom and baby. In fact, one of the most common complications to occur is Down syndrome. And while Down syndrome may be very common, many women are making the decision to abort their fetuses once they are aware of the disability.
Author Christine Mitchell’s “When Living is a Fate Worse Than Death” told the story of a girl Haitian named Charlotte. Charlotte was born with her brain partially positioned outside of her cranium which had to be removed or she would have not survived. Her skull had to be concealed by a wrap in order not to cause further damage. Charlotte was born with less brain cells which allowed her only to breath and not feel much of the pain. Charlotte’s parents thought that the doctor’s in Haiti did not know what was best for their daughter. The doctors in Haiti thought Charlotte should not be resuscitated, undergo anymore horrible treatments and die peacefully. Charlotte’s parents were not happy with the doctor’s guidelines and thought the United States medical care would have better technology and could save their daughter. Charlotte’s parents bought her a doll which
...t having an abortion does come with many consequences, both psychically and mentally. When most women have abortions they can attain Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and have also attained many other disorders such as eating disorders, guilt, depression, suicidal thoughts, and in some cases have even had flashbacks of the abortion. Another thing about abortion is, statically as of today, there are about 1.21 million abortions a year, and out of those abortions only 4 out of 10 babies born are aborted, and by the average women is 45 years old, about one third of women will have had at least one abortion. Furthermore, Roe vs. Wade has made a dramatic influence on society and their views on abortions, wether it be because of their religion or what they believe in, Roe vs. Wade and abortion is still a controversial topic and will still be talked about for a while.
At the age of 23, Charlie has a fairly good life. He has a good job with a national insurance company, and recently married his girlfriend of three and a half years, Autumn. They are expecting their first child this November. But things have not always gone so well for Charlie. When Charlie was two and a half years old, his mother Laura and father Jose Chili Pepper gave birth to their second child, Chloe. Jose and Laura knew there was something wrong with Chloe right away, because of the way she turned her hand, but no doctor in Fudge Brownie, Montana, would confirm Jose and Laura’s suspicion their daughter had Cerebral Palsy.
Abortion is a voluminous topic today all around the world. Differing viewpoints on abortion are recognized in politics, religion, and throughout the general population. There is a small amount of people who are nonchalant on the subject. Women have abortions for many different reasons and according to certain groups these reasons are either justified or not. Everyone tends to have their own articulated opinion, and many vocalize tenaciously what they believe. Pro-life individuals along with religion are sanguine that abortion is ethically and morally erroneous. Whereas those who are pro-choice say that abortion is inconsequential and the mother’s choice is more important than the fetus. Reasons to not get an abortion include risks involved in receiving an abortion. In some cases death can occur. However, there are other alternatives to abortion. For example, raising the child and adoption.
Abortion has been a controversial topic in the U.S ever since it became legal in 1973 after the Roe v. Wade case. Abortion is defined as the, “the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy.” Pro-life supporters believe that abortion is unethical and argue that it is the mother’s responsibility to own up to her actions. They also argue that there is always the option of adoption, and that abortion could be very dangerous. I am pro-life and believe that the government doesn’t have the right to decide what a woman can or can’t do with her body.
February 13th, 1979, Janae and I were born in Sunrise Hospital, four minutes apart, to two anxious, ecstatic, and not to mention exhausted parents. Immediately following the birth, the doctor glanced up at my mother and father and announced that they were the proud parents of identical twin girls. My sister Janae was born first weighing a mere four pounds 11 ounces and I swiftly followed, weighing a hefty seven pounds zero ounces (very large for the average twin). The doctor proceeded to tell my mother that identical twins automatically have a special bond that exists between them, and that she was to enjoy the many fun, challenging, yet exciting experiences to come. One of the most challenging experiences to come would be the dreadful day when the two of us would realize that we couldn't be together always. That memorable day we slept together, side by side, in our rectangular clear plastic hospital beds -- determined to be inseparable for the remainder of our lives.

Abortion (noun)- the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus (Webster, 1). In America today, abortion seems to be a topic that is widely discussed and debated. However although it is frequently talked about, it is also frowned upon and shamed by others. In fact, some Americans feel it is wrong to even mention the word abortion in general. Why is that the case? Why are women shunned and shamed for having an abortion when all they’re doing is protecting their lives and their unborn child? This is especially true in teenagers who become pregnant because they are more at risk for medical and economical issues. Therefore although it is
Abortion serves as an action of deliberately terminating a human pregnancy. Planned Parenthood reports millions of people face unplanned or unwanted pregnancies every year, resulting in four out of every ten deciding to undergo an abortion (Planned Parenthood, 2018). Controversies and ethical dilemmas exist among religious, medical, and political sectors regarding abortion as a whole. Yet regardless, each individual woman should have the right to make a decision regarding how to proceed with her pregnancy, considering it is ultimately her body and therefore her choice to make and live with in regards of how to proceed with a pregnancy. Being pro-choice is supported by the fact that choosing an abortion is a woman’s right that should not be
For her to go out and set her mind at ease to save the unborn human is really a heroic thing in my point of view. Although the Roe v. Wade is still in effect there are still many protest to end abortion. Ending abortion will always be the world’s biggest problem, whether we like it or not it’s not up to us to decide. On August 2014 Abortion became a hot button issue in Texas. The judges forced abortion clinics to become surgical clinics.
