Peer pressure, it is one of, if not the most, dreaded aspects of the teenage experience. It can ruin lives, cause dissent, and even lead to a person’s death. Despite these negatives, is peer pressure a potential catalyst for positive growth in teens? In response to such a question, yes it can positively affect a person. Next, a new question is brought to light: if it can be a positive experience then in what ways will it be positive? First of all, a teenager is the majority of the time inexperienced when it comes to the new options that begin opening during high school. Peer pressure can give a teen the experience needed to work through these problems and situations more effectively. Secondly, stress is involved with peer pressure like a husband It is what causes teens to act or think unpredictably. This in turn causes them to make faulty decisions based more on frivolous details than the essential ones. Conversely, stress also has hidden potential most teens never consider: investigations. A teen under stress has an ability of predicting multiple scenarios some of which are admirable results and others that are dangerous. Nevertheless, this does not make a teen clairvoyant. Perhaps the scenarios are not as harmful as predicted, or maybe the circumstances are far more sinister than on the surface. All of this can alleviate some of the stress in itself because sometimes thinking something over thoroughly can create a sense of security. Even if a teen is in the best state of mind he or she could possibly be that does not mean stress should be underestimated and ignored. As it can very well backfire in more ways than one. In essence, control those stress levels or risk being manipulated by them to perform an act that would otherwise not even be considered under normal, less provocative circumstances. To reiterate, stress is both a good aspect and a bad aspect of peer pressure; the respectable idea behind it is to strive to use it positively and make more appropriate decisions with it. As a teenager we are all looking to be accepted by our peers and will do whatever it is they want us to so we can be accepted. That is to say the feeling of needing to be accepted by ones peers is done consciously; the person starts to do what their friends do without thinking about it. (Teen 3) In fact, teens are more likely to be affected by peer pressure because they are trying to figure out who they are. (How 1) Therefore, they see themselves as how their peers would view them so they change to fit their peer’s expectations. (How 1) Secondly, the feeling of needing to rebel and be someone that isn’t who their parents are trying to make them be affects them. (Teen 2) Thus, parents are relied on less and teens are more likely to go to their peers about their problems and what choices to make. (How 1) Also, their brains are not fully matured and teens are less likely to think through their choices thoroughly before doing it. (Teen 6) Lastly, how a child is treated by his peers can affect how they treat others; this can lead them into bullying others who are different. (Teen 3) Consequently this can affect a teen into doing something good or bad; it depends who you surround yourself with.
