Cell phones in the Classroom Introduction Technology has changed tremendously over the past twenty years, and the world appears to be captivated by the outbreak of technology and its developments in the teaching field. Technology has altered and will change numerous ideas of teaching. The effects of technology in the classroom are connected to not to just the teachers but to the students as well. The classrooms need to stay lecture driven, but then again how will they if technology is involved. Cell phones should not be allowed in the classroom for the reasons of cheating, distractions, and texting. Limited Learning Technology possibly will have a harmful outcome of students learning capability in school, which can affect them to develop …show more content…
According to Porter (2013), “Technology has become a catalyst for distraction and off task behavior with students, tweeting, or prowling, through YouTube when they’re supposed to be listening to the teacher or doing classwork, promotes a lack of focus”. Cell Phones in the classroom would perform as a distraction to students learning. A small amount of students would actually be paying attention to their teacher and what he/she is instructing them and the other half of the students would not be paying attention. They would be surfing the web, playing games or be on social media, in which the classroom is not a room for participating in such activities Sooner than later cell phones being in the classroom would only cause a distraction and students grades would significantly display it. …show more content…
Students go to school to obtain a good education and to succeed in life, but if they are constantly on a cell phone and not paying attention in class this will not happen. The classrooms need to stay lecture driven, but how will they if technology is involved. Cell phones should not be allowed in the classroom for the reasons of cheating, distractions, and texting. In addition to that being said, cell phones in the classroom will not only distract the students that are using them from learning, but the other students as
Technology has been slowly integrated into the classroom for many years now. Some maybe older than others, but they have all seemed to make the learning and teaching process much easier and effective. Computers were introduced to the curriculum to help students better understand data collection, research, and word processing and Power Points were even added to give visuals to lessons. Cell phones on the other hand have been given the cold shoulder, and even completely banned by some schools. According to the article, “Are We Dialing Up Disaster,” by George Engel and Tim Green, eighty-four percent of high school students report to owning a cell phone and that number continues to increase (Engel 39). Because students are distracted by the use of cell phones, schools around the country have made a stand to make sure they are not inhibiting the learning process. But do the bans really make a difference? Students seem to still be sending text messages in class.
Teachers are finding it harder and harder to separate a student from their cell phones for eight hours. Cellular devices and social media have become a number one priority for many people across the world. Due to the fact that the student will not put down their phones during school hours, their grades tend to be lower, which could, in the long run, affect their chances of getting into college. The use of cell phones does not strictly affect younger generations, it also had major influence on adults at the
Another way is they can ban cellphones so the student won’t bring them to school at all which is something good.i feel that if the other ideas don 't work which i will talk about briefly we should use cellphones for educational purposes. Let 's face almost every student has a cellphone that they carry with them at all times. If we use the student cellphones for their education they are more likely are going to pay attention in class. Also their is some benefit to students using their cellphone in their classroom for educational purpose they are less likely to forget their phone so they will be able to remember what they did the day before or they can remind themselves to study of a quiz or test etc(Kieffer). That 's one way to do it if the next solution doesn 't work well as i was saying i believe if we ban cell phones from school we will see a big difference in the student 's grade since their is nothing for them to get distracted on then all they have left is pay attention so that will be a good way to stop this
Technology is becoming more and more dominant in our society.Everyday upgrades are being made and new innovations are being discovered. Technology is all around us whether we want it to be or not: it is the vehicles we drive, it can be found in our homes, and can even be found in the grocery store.Every place we look there is some type of technology.I believe technology has had a major impact on our school systems and is still impacting it today. There are those who do not agree, though, that technology has impacted our schools.Eric Gormly writes, “In fact, many theorists point out the overall impact of technology on education has been quite small, manifesting little discernible change in the classroom.” [1]Yes, there are some schools that are not as advanced as others, but many of them do have a significant amount of technology in them.I find it fascinating that so much technology has been incorporated into our classrooms, but I believe that, even with all of the positive aspects that are associated with technology, there are some negative and even dangerous aspects that should be taken into account.I will be sharing some of the equipment that has been used in the schools, how both the students and the teachers use the equipment, and also the positive and negative effects that technology has had on our schools.
One reason that cell phones should be banned from classrooms is because students who use them fall into a daze of distracted learning. Classes are taught by teachers, whose goal is to give the student an educational experience, learning things they will need to apply to their later life. However, students on their cellphones are distracted from their learning and never use the lessons taught. Over 2,000 cellphone disturbances were reported in New York City in the past school year (Backstory). This means that over 2,000 people had issues with cellphones interrupting classroom discussi...
Technology forms the most vital element of life in the world today. Every aspect of our lives is dominated by technology and its importance in our lives is indispensable. One of the outstanding facts about technology use in schools is its controversial nature. There is no common agreement by stakeholders in technology and educations sectors about the use of technology in schools. There are two different factions, one supporting use of technology as a positive aspect, while the other faction disagrees, citing the detrimental effects of technology in students. However, the use of technology in classrooms catering for children continues to increase, as education develops more interesting ways of enhan...
When we step foot into our home, we are surrounded by technology, whether it is a television or a telephone sitting on the counter. Once we walk outside we are surrounded by many with a phone in their hand, wrapped in a world full of technology that seems to improve our lives. We have become engaged in a society that is dependent on technology to work, to study, to live. Before thinking to introduce technology such as tablets, Chromebooks, or technology that gets rid of textbooks in school curriculums, such establishments should consider whether it will limit student's development, make them too dependable on technology, or if it is truly necessary in order to teach. Such factors should be taken into consideration before introducing revolutionary
There are a lot of students in the school that be on their phones and if no one does anything about it they are going to fail. So yeah students definitely should not have cell phones a school. One reason why students should not be allowed on their phone is they do like texting. If a student is supposed to be doing work 9 times out of 10 they are checking to see if a notification is on their phone.
It’s not acceptable to use cell phones in class. Actually, using cell phones has more negative effects than positive. So, why do we need to change the policy that prohibits students from using cell phones in classrooms? In my opinion, I will say no, we shouldn’t change the policy that exists now - no cell phone use, under any circumstances.
Ever since incidents such as 9/11 and Columbine, high schools have started implementing new rules regarding cellphones. Cellphones regard the attention of building managers, teachers, parents, and students. Although teachers see them as a distraction and a way to cheat, they can be quite helpful to students. School districts should permit students to use cellular devices in school for purposes of improving their education and providing themselves a sense of security.
April Chamberlain has said, “Education is evolving due to the impact of the Internet. We cannot teach our students in the same manner in which we were taught. Change is necessary to engage students not in the curriculum we are responsible for teaching, but in school. Period.” People all over the world have acknowledged the important role that technology plays to society throughout these past decades because of its high advance potential. Today, technology is used by many different aged groups especially in the higher education such as: colleges or universities, however (if it is managed properly) it can be a huge convenience for education in all schools including elementary. The downfall of using technology
Cell phones should not be allowed in school because children focus more on the phone than schoolwork, it creates more drama, and it promotes cheating. Cell phones should not be allowed in schools because kids are always wondering what their friends are doing and what is happening outside of school. If they have access to their phones all day, then they will be glued to them. Phones are more entertaining than a teacher lecturing at the front of the class. Most students will start to zone out, or fall asleep, when a teacher starts a lesson.
Cell phones have only been in the picture for a short amount of time compared to how long people have been going to school but cell phones are everywhere now and make it difficult for schools to come up with what to do. As many believe they are a distraction and can be used for cheating and other negative stuff. There are also people that are highly in favor of having cellphones as they can be helpful with all the tools they provide and people who are not and it 's all about who makes a better argument. Cell phones used to just have communication abilities but that is far gone now you have the abilities to use apps and different functions that fit nicely into a school environment. Cell phones should be allowed in the classroom as cell phones provide positive benefits and are a helpful tool in learning.
Students would be on their cellphones but it would be their choice to learn or not to learn. This would affect the student not the teacher 's grade. The teacher would not have to say something to the student about their phone unless they are making noises with the cellphone. If students would chose to not pay attention it leads to consequences for their own actions. In an online book called, Cell Phones in the Classroom: A Practical Guide for Educators, that Liz Kolb wrote in 2011 it states, “The students had to donate to a local charity to use their cellphones in school”. If this kept on going and students would have to pay everyday. This would stop them from using their phone because students would not like to pay a dollar and spend a whole lot just to use their cellphones. If the student would get catch without paying they should have to pay more money then supposed to or spent the day in a detention room. If students were in a classroom and the teacher was teaching, the teacher would not want the students to be talking so they just pull out their cellphones and use messages so they do not interrupt the class. When in class teacher want to teach all they can to students but if the teacher has to stop teaching just to take away a cellphone it waste time, so the teacher does not get that couple minutes
First of all, students absolutely should not be permitted to use cell phones during school hours because it is a distraction to other students. This is an issue that plays a huge role on student’s lives because it takes away from their academic education. The s...
