The Nazi Regime and The Holocaust

We study the Holocaust so we can rememeber the people that were discriminated against, tortured, and killed by the Nazi Regime of Germany in the concentration camps. We study the Holocaust so we can recognize the insanity of Adolf Hitler, so we may stop it if it ever rises again. According to Edmund Burk, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing". This is exactly how it happened the first time; the Holocaust happened because nobody stopped it. We have to make sure it never happens again.

Adolf Hitler started as a mere soldier fighting for Germany (even though he was Austrian) in World War I. Hitler was blinded by a mustard gas attack in the war, and he heard of the German surrender from his hospital bed. He was infuriated by the "weakness" of the German government, so he planned a coup to overthrow them and take power of the country. He was unsuccessful however, as he was caught and thrown in prison for his actions. Hitler was sentenced to five years in prison, but was only in prison for eight months due to his "good behavior". Hitler had spent histime in jail writing a book called "Mien Kumpf", or "My Struggle" in Enlgish. The book was an autobiography/library of all his political ideas. Because of this book, HItler became well known throughout the world, and was loved by the people of Germany. He was so well known that he was TIME Magazine's man of the year in 1939. While he may have been a maniac, he was also an excellent speaker. Eventually Hitler became second in command of the German Government, where he passed a law which got rid of the position above him. ...n conflict and nothing else). Japan sent many bombers to destroy the United States Naval base, Pearl Harbor, in which many people were killed. The U.S. then entered the war, aiding Britain and other countries.

In 1941, Hitler invaded Russia in the winter, attempting to take Moscow. They failed, but Russia was weakened. In 1943, Italy was defeated and surrendered to The Allies. From there on out, Germany began to lose the war. The Nazis began destroying their camps, killing the people that they could and moving the rest to the camps in Germany. HItler knew he was going down, so he was trying to initiate as much of his final solution as he could.

When The Allies breached Germany, HItler killed himself and all the camps were liberated.

This is why we study the Holocaust. So we may make sure that evil may never triumph, by giving good men a chance to do something.
