The Natural The Natural written by Bernard Malamud was a very well written book. I really am not a big fan of baseball but I did enjoy this novel. This book is about never giving up no matter how bad the situations gets. Roy Hobbs wanted to be the best baseball player that ever lived, who broke all the records, and when he went walking down the street he wanted people to say, “Hey that’s Roy Hobbs, the greatest player of all times.” He would have been excellent and could have played baseball for many years, but someone didn’t want that. He was shot and it injured him terribly. Hobbs finally made it back and was found by a scout and was sent to play for the worst team in the league. I like how Hobbs never gives up. He goes up against the corrupters, the seducers, and the glory destroyers. No one wanted to let Hobbs play because he was old, they thought he should be at the age to retire not to just begin. This book goes to show that you can do anything if you set your mind to it and if you want it bad enough. Hobbs proved everyone wrong. He was worst possible thing happened, he met a girl. He started getting distracted and it a effected his game. Hobbs let a woman mess with his head. When Hobbs would go up to bat, he usually hit a home run but when he met this woman, he started striking out. I guess you could say that she was bad luck. Well, he eventually made is mind get cleared and was back to his old self. Another reason why I liked this novel is because it kind of gives a l...
If you like baseball and you need to find a good book, well here is one it's called Shoeless Joe and Me. It's about a kid name Shoeless Joe who's nickname is Joe Jackson, Joe Jackson played on the Chicago white sox in 1919. They were in the World Series but they lost it because of gambling which caused them to lose the series and they were suspended from baseball and could never play professional baseball again. It was Joe Jackson and a couple of his teammates. If you touched a Joe Jackson card you go back in time and change stuff .

Book Report on Baseball: A History of America's Game by Benjamin G. Rader In "Baseball: A History of America's Game", the Author Benjamin G. Rader discusses the history of baseball and how it developed to present day. Rader explains how baseball started as a simple game consisting of no rules besides the players using a stick to hit a ball and its constant evolution to what the game is today. He also displays several issues which America's favorite sport has had while developing into the complex sport it is today. Although baseball has had several trials and tribulations throughout its history, it still remains America's favorite pastime.
The ending of the novel was inspiring. The author suggests the reader to look into great novels, and even supplies a list of novels a personally suggests. He ended with a very ...
...very good read. It’s easy to see why Sports Illustrated included it in its collection of the top 100 sports books of all time.
In the beginning of The Natural, Roy Hobbs is a young man who has his whole life ahead of him. He is being picked up by a scout and is looking forward to a career in the major leagues. Malamud shows imagery in the story to highlight turning points and moments that have great importance by saying, “The bullet cut a silver line across the water. He sought with his bare hands to catch it, but it eluded him and, to his horror, bounced into his gut. A twisted dagger of smoke drifted up from the gun barrel. Fallen on one knee he groped for the bullet, sickened as it moved, and fell over as the forest flew upward, and she, and muted noises of triumph and despair, danced on her toes around the stricken hero”(Malamud, 28). Harriet asks Roy if he will be the best in the game, and when he says yes, she shoots him in the stomach. This is a turning point in the story because Roy realizes that his chances of playing in the major leagues are fading away. Roy is worried about his health and whether or not he will get another opportunity to play baseball.
...dly though, as it is really daunting in size and subject matter, but I found myself turning page after page just to find out what ludicrous thing Cobb would do or say next on his path to glory. I would recommend this book the anybody, baseball fan or not as it is a moving, beautiful piece of literature about one of America’s early sports heroes, and it gives great insight into the time period as well.
*All in all I would say that this novel is definitely a good read. I found my self at times relating my own thoughts and experiences to that of the characters in the book. This is the very reason I would recommend that you give your class next semester the option of reading either this book or another. From my point of view, I think that most men can not relate to certain situations that occur, which lessens the overall significance of her writing.
Important aspects of naturalism are the ideas that people are essentially animals responding to their basic urges without rational thought, and the insignificance of man to others and nature. In The Jungle, Sinclair portrays Jurgis as a man slowly changing into animal as well as a man whose actions are irrelevant to the rest of the corrupt capitalist world of Chicago in order to show the reader the naturalist ideas of the struggles between man and society.
"He was like a hunter stalking a bear, a whale, or maybe the sight of a single fleeing star the way he went after that ball (Malamud, 162)." Since he is young, Roy Hobbs has great ability and amazing talent in baseball. However, just like a tragic hero in Greek myth, those ones who fight for their honor, but fail because of their hubris or the desire of being such immortal and an aspects of not accepting the truth and reality, Roy Hobbs' hubris, ambition and a desire for fame and his fortune really tell that he is a tragic hero.
The novel The Natural is written by Bernard Malamud. Bernard was a famous author mainly known for writing short stories and novels. He was considered one of the great American Jewish authors of the 20th century. Bernard was born in Brooklyn, New York. His parents were Russian Jewish immigrants and he had a brother named Eugene. Unfortunately, Malamud entered his adolescence when the Great Depression began. The Natural is one of his more famous books, which was written in 1952. This novel is about a baseball prodigy named Roy Hobbs. He has a bat that he made himself, which he calls Wonderboy. Roy plans to join the major leagues and break all the records. However, his plans are put on hold when a woman he meets shoots. After fifteen years after the tragedy Roy goes back to baseball and is drafted to the New York Knights. Along his journey to becoming a superstar he is distracted from his goal by the women in his life. The Natural is very much similar to the mythological story of Perceval, the Story of the Holy Grail. Roy Hobbs is comparable to Perceval, Pop Fisher to the Fisher King and the pennant to the Holy Grail.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and believe it to be one of the best books I have ever read. It was extremely well written and challenging for me to understand at times. It conveys that dark side of human ambition very well, and it has given me much to think about.
“It was easy. All men must die,” wrote Jack London in “The Law of Life” (748). London is a Naturalist who sees humans as helpless from forces beyond their control. Naturalist writers are pessimistic, conveying life as a trap. Typically, the endings are not happy. Naturalism came about after World War I, when society was melancholy and essentially hopeless. Writers of the time realized that life is not always happy, and wanted to convey that in their writing. These concepts led to the literary movement, Naturalism. Naturalistic writing includes the power of nature, pessimism, and irony to reveal that humans are not in control of their fate.
A few reasons are, (1) Involves time travel. (2) Its also informational and teaches you the old rules about baseball and the Civil War. (3) It gives you the tension and feelings of the Civil War. The author also kept the ball rolling and it feels like the author puts you in the character's shoes. But some people disagree with me saying "It doesn't have enough action and doesn't make any sense." Or they think the book moves to slow and doesn't give enough detail. I sometimes say "Let people have their own opinion." Even though everyone has their, I stick up for my own and my opinion on A Pitch in
There are two ways in which sociologists study human behavior. The Nature approach and the Nurture approach.
