The National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET) has a mission that gives support to educators who teach special needs children by means of research, practice, and policy. They provide special educators national forum to promote their ideas and they give assistance to those who are preparing for a special education career. The participants for this study were six pairs of elementary teachers from five elementary schools in one of the largest suburban school districts in the United States located in a large western state. Special education is ever changing, making it important for teachers to change with it. With the current paradigm shift to a family-centered relationship in mind, individual teachers must look at their ethical statements (Amatea, 2013). These statements must focus on areas with role obligations, such as, practitioner, colleague, leadership, community resource, advocate, and representative of the field of special education. I really enjoy reading your post. Your thought process reminded a great deal of the conversation I had with the Special Education Teacher who is part of my SPED Team that I used as a resource to answer this DQ. It also reminded of my many years of training individuals in the corporate security field. I often found no matter how much classroom time I spent with my security students, it was the on the job or using your verbiage “day to day workings” where I found the most success in retaining knowledge and adaptive skills needed to complete specific tasks.
Employment of special education teachers is expected to increase much faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2005 due to legislation emphasizing training and employment for individuals with disabilities; technological advances resulting in more survivors of accidents and illnesses; and growing public interest in individuals with special needs. Qualified persons should have little trouble finding a job, due to increased demand for these workers combined with relatively high turnover among special education teachers. Many special education teachers switch to general education teaching or change careers altogether, often because of job stress associated with teaching special education, particularly excessive paperwork, and inadequate administrative support.
Special educations is a challenging,demanding,and rewarding profession that betters others and society. In this career field it takes a special individual to adapt to the everyday challenges of disabilities and love all students. Although the career field is not rapidly growing but the need is ever growing.This career is of great importance and plays a crucial role in the future of many youth and their families .Even though this career field comes with many demands the reward of giving a child a brighter future and a place in society makes special education teacher very rewarding .
I have been a Special Education Para-Educator for eleven years now. My decision to do this was based on the needs of my family and kids. When my last child was born, the doctors did not think that he would make it. He had a heart malfunction and was born with RSV and Von Villibrantds disease (which I did not find out until he was three); those factors lead me to want to work with special education kids, knowing that I could make a difference.
Special education in the United States has come a long way since its beginnings, before the government assumed the responsibility of providing public education for children with different disabilities, their parents have to educate them privately or leaving them at home without much hopes of progressing socially or academically. It was the courage of parents of children with special children and their need to fulfill their children educational requirements, led them to advocate since the early stages of the 20th century, and achieve. what we know these days as special education.

One purpose of the special education program is to assist children who have special needs with achieving those needs. Being well-organized is an important trait to have when caring for a child with special needs. Children should have a comfortable environment when they are being taught, and the teacher should be able to provide this for his or her students. In a regular class, there can be a very tense environment. The level of tension is oftentimes intensified in classes that involve the teaching of special education. Teachers who specialize in special education should have the ability to make all students comfortable and have coping techniques to aid their students. Many students have unique learning styles. In order to accommodate every student’s needs, a teacher must be able to teach the same curriculum in multiple ways. One of the main roles a teacher portrays is the loving and caring they have for their students. Children must have a teacher who shows how much they care for their students and how they genuinely love them. The role of the special education administrative organization is to supply an educational environment that is the most productive for those with special needs.Those who teach special education provide a support system for their students. Teachers need to be trained to educate special needs students in order to grant them the best education they can receive. Special education is a process of expanding the education system to contribute to every child’s educational needs. Teachers must be adaptable in order to maintain control if a child has an outburst in class. As a Special Needs Teacher (S.N.T.) working with students with different disabilities are having to know that lots of understanding of children that are not able to speak. One of the challenges faced is understanding how the child interacts with their classmates and how they learn; what different types of strategies are needed more for each child in the classroom. The obligation as an SNT is to be knowledgeable about the different types of disabilities to assure that it may be taught to any child who comes into the classroom.

In order to be a special education teacher it is necessary to have the values and characteristics I mentioned in previous paragraphs. The controversial nature of special education makes it exciting and challenging. We would be worried (and we believe people with disabilities and their families would be worried too (if professionals in special education were suddenly in complete agreement on all important issues in the field. We should constantly strive to find better ways to provide education and related services for people with disabilities based on best evidence we can obtain ( Lloyd & Hallahan, 2007).In this endeavour, differences of opinion are inevitable. All children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) should be able to reach their full potential in school. They should also be supported to make a successful transition into adulthood, whether into employment, further or higher education or training.
As the nation sees an increase in the number of children being diagnosed with some form of special needs, there is an increased need for properly trained special-education teachers. They, however, have become difficult to find. The education field has begun to see a drastic shortage in special-education teachers, resulting in positions being filled by those with less than ideal qualifications. This puts the most vulnerable students at risk of not receiving the help and sometimes extensive assistance they need in order to learn and grow in their education. Participants in the study by Berry (2008) comprised a subset of 47 of the 89 graduate students enrolled in six sections of a special education survey course at a major university in the United States. The subset of 47 graduate students included 20 preservice teachers and 17 inservice teachers; 27 early childhood/elementary teachers, 20 middle/high school teachers. Of the 47 participants, 38 were females and 9 males. Ethnic breakdown of the participants were as follows: 41 European Americans, 4 Asian Americans, and 2 other/unknown ethnicity.
