There are many goals of our club. They all are based on NBHS’s mission statement and goals.
Our club will . . .
- Build civic and social responsibility o Civic responsibility through community service
• Community Round Up (Last Saturday of October)

• Matt’s Mission 5K Volunteering (Typically in May) o Social responsibility through hosting community forums
• Discussing a topic concerning schools (ie. Bullying, plagiarism, etc.)
• Discussing positive aspects of schools (marketing for NBPS)
• Educate students on voting rights
• Educate students on world issues (including advisory activities)
- Extenuate positive environment by teaching about acceptance, inclusion, and invitation o Hold advisory workshops o Invite students to leadership opportunities hosted by club
- Teach about how to make a difference o Hold skillshops concerning 100 out of the 147 leadership skills o Apply skills through interactive, pre-planned situations (experiential learning)

Because of this club experience, students will be better college candidates due to their leadership skills. Future success will be a topic we discuss, especially through application of skills we educate. Our focus is not service or diversity, rather educating students with the necessary skills to make a difference and be successful during and after high school.

Throughout the years of being a student at Council Rock, I have come to the realization of what a true leader is. A leader is not someone that just plans events, collects money, or shows up to meetings. Rather, this is someone that has a true connection with their peers, and has unmatched passion for what they do. I probably will go back when I’m not in college and volunteer. Classism is going to continue as the gap between social classes continues to widen however clubs and organizations can help kids to rise and achieve what they otherwise might not have been able to achieve otherwise. Positivity can go a long way.
Leadership is an art that evolves over time. My experience has allowed me to obtain the key principles that make me a leader. Recently, I became President of Denver South High School Key Club. A self-funded group, that provide student with leadership and public service opportunities. It provides student with a lifetime experience and allows their leadership skills to grow. As the President, I coordinate and organize events that allow members to serve there community. With a very strong team, we are able to accomplish our duties as leaders.

Finally, as a member of the Student Leadership Council, I have developed meaningful relationships with peers, advisors and community leaders, some who share my views and others whose views are utterly different from mine. I have been able to grow tremendously from my association with Students Against Destructive Decisions. Thus, it is my desire to continue volunteering for the Students Against Destructive Decisions Student Leadership Council, even after I graduate from high school, because it has been such a meaningful and rewarding experience. It is my hopes that I will be able to some day facilitate a Students Against Destructive Decisions Program in my community, as there is an urgent need for positive adult mentors.
There is an African Proverb quoted “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” This quote resonates with much of my life and parallels my experience with Duke’s Team Fuqua culture. From the time I started my business school journey, I have experienced the community and support of Fuqua students through countless interactions. Sidney McLaurin coached me through applying to Management Leadership for Tomorrow’s (MLT) MBA Preparation Program. Erika Hines (’17) graciously opened her home to me during a school visit, and Noelle Kelly (’17) has spent many hours enlightening me on the HSM program and Durham. In college, I will also be exposed to new clubs and activities. I feel that club and after school activities can make a person more involved and give a person the right qualities to become a leader. Involvement in extra events has provided a balance for rigorous course study. With the pressures that college brings, I will probably want to be involved in many groups.
It is important to understand the many different methods of educating gifted and talented students. Most people, whether as teachers, students, or parents, will at some point be faced with the many options of educating the gifted and talented. In the United States today, 3-5 percent of students are considered gifted. Defining whether or not a student is gifted can be quite difficult, but many would agree that gifted students “are able to learn material rapidly and understand concepts deeply” (Lynch, 1999). Within this paper I will discuss the process of identifying gifted and talented students and the different methods of educating them including tracking, grade advancement, and cooperative learning. Of these three methods I believe the most effective method used to teach gifted and talented students is tracking.
Another advantage for this group is that they host comedy shows and showcase their talents. This will be very interesting to see how they prepare for these and how they develop the right material for the shows. Students come and watch these shows so it will also be interesting to see how the members of the club interact with others and how others interact with them.
For hundreds of years it has been recognized that not all learning takes place in the classroom. Students mental and social development also occurs outside the classroom in athletics, music, and clubs. No matter what club the student is involved in, he/she fosters organizational, interpersonal, communication, planning, critical thinking, financing, and evaluation skills. A club gives students the opportunity to combine components of their mental and social development into personal action. These students have opportunities to test their skills and talents in different situations. Students will always work together to set goals, develop action plans for achieving those goals and implement those plans. Doing so, students could develop and maintain working relationships and friendships. The soul of a club is the students, but it also consists of many things that happen behind the scenes.
Besides academics, fine arts and sports in school, I have attained leading roles in different groups. This year, I am the Spirit Leader of Student Council encouraging monthly goals and themes and assisting in school events.
