Have you ever heard of the Panama canal or even the Moai’s at Easter Island? Did you know that the Moai was created over a thousand of years ago? The Panama Canal is basically a canal where ships could easily get across the ocean in less than 8 hours. Believe it or not, but the two man-made structures have some stuff in common. Even though they have way more differences they’re not completely different from each other. Some differences are that the Moai is more of a statue while the Panama canal is really just a canal and that the Moai is a huge mystery when the Panama canal really has no mystery, but no one knows how the Moai’s move from a volcano onto an Ahu. The Panama canal was most definitely man-made. It took about 80,000 workers to finish the Panama canal. It cost over 600,000,000 dollars to Finnish this project. Likewise the Moai was created by many people as people believe. It had to be carved because of the face’s the Moai’s show. Although the Moai’s didn’t cost any money to be made. In 1539 Hernando de Soto and five hundred adventurers began on a journey of exploration that would take 4 years and would travel through 10 states in the southeast United States. His goal was to discover a source of wealth, preferably gold, and around his mines establish a settlement. During his travels through La Florida he encountered numerous groups of native peoples, making friends of some and enemies of others. His expedition was not the first in La Florida; however, it was the most extensive. In its aftermath, thousands of Indians would die by disease that the Spaniards brought from the Old World. De Soto would initially be remembered as a great explorer but, would be later viewed as a destroyer of native culture. However, in truth de Soto was neither a hero or a villain but rather an adventurer.

When it was finally finished in 1914, the 51-mile waterway cut off over 7,900 miles of the distance between New York and San Francisco, and changed the face of the industrialized world ("Panama Canal"). This Canal is not the longest, the widest, the deepest, or the oldest canal in the world, but it is the only canal to connect two oceans, and still today is the greatest man-made waterway in the world ("Panama Canal Connects). Ferdinand de Lesseps, who played a large role in building the Suez Canal in 1869 (Jones), was the director of the Compagnie Universelle Du Canal Interoceanique de Panama ("Historical Overview").
The Underground Railroad was a pathway that allowed many slaves to escape bondage. Traditionally, the Underground Railroad is taught as being a pathway that only led towards the northern part of the United States. For slaves in the Deep South, including states such as South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas, the Underground Railroad running North was almost unreachable. With fewer obstacles to tackle, a slave of the Deep South could escape to Mexico. Due to its distance from free states in the North and British Canada, the Deep South is not usually a part of discussions of the Underground Railroad. The climatic implications of this landform are incredible, allowing for the redistribution of oceanic currents and the formation of the Gulf Stream of the Atlantic of today.

La Venta, built between 1000 and 600 B.C., sat on an island in a swamp (Stanton 93). Later, around 500 B.C., Monte Alban, which was used as a religious center even after the Olmecs faded, was built on an immense mountain (Stanton 93). The cities were made up of temples and plazas, and decorated by monumental stone heads, which weighed up to 50 tons (Stanton 93)! These heads probably represented their early kings and had distinct helmets (Kingfisher 32). It is incredible how the Olmec people transported the stone from the distant mountains to La Venta, near the shore, without the aid of work animals or carts.

Over the centuries, there were many planes and ships that suddenly vanished when sailing or flying over a specific part of the Atlantic Ocean. This place is known as the Bermuda Triangle, a mythical section of the Atlantic Ocean. There are many reasons as to why the sudden vanishing of ships and planes have been happening. Most of these reasons were theories from authors who had an idea of what was going on in the Bermuda Triangle and why they thought it was happening.
