Of the many career paths I picked as a child being a historian was never on that list. For the longest time I disliked learning about history. I felt that it was a waste of time to learn about the beginning of the American government because it couldn’t possibly be any different from how it is today. Now looking back shamefully at my younger self I know for a fact that our world today is in so many ways different from the world that was alive not 200 years ago. The musical Hamilton was in many ways the spark that ignites the flame for me. Not only does it talk about the beginning of America but also it focuses on the fact that Hamilton, an immigrant, didn’t have a fair start in the race for recognition in our country. Regardless, he climbed
the ladder all the way to the top becoming George Washington’s right hand man. Everytime I think about this moment I feel empowered. I feel that the only thing stopping me from being the best I could be is, in fact, me. The musical touches on so many aspects of life then and now that shows it doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from. If you can find the right people to help you, you can be unstopable. Being the dreamer of far fetched dreams I am, I admire this cry for justice seeping from every line in that musical. It has inspired me to not only make our country and even the world a better place along with bringing people who worked hard to do exactly that into light. I strive to be a long life learner. Reading about historical events and people is my favorite pass time. I keep up to date with political events and how it could affect me. Living in this day in age where there are so many amazing choices of schools is a blessing. The only real problem is how expensive they can be. I struggle with the fact that my family doesn’t have a lot of money. My mother could only set aside a small amount of money that will get me into the school. I feel even more thankful knowing that there are many ways, like scholarships, to get the assistance I need. I would use the money from this scholarship to pay for my books.
You may of heard about the musical Hamilton, witch is about the great founding father Alexander Hamilton. Do you know all the other facts about his life? Here are some of his biggest facts.
From the meager beginnings of a bastard child born out of wedlock, to one man heralding the power of friendship to the most powerful man in an early republic, Alexander Hamilton proved that what would come to be known as the American dream can be realized by anyone. Native or not; rich or poor; with the drive to realize your dreams, you can achieve them. Hamilton made great advances toward what we know as America today and left behind a legacy that has too commonly become forgotten.
The discourse of America, a nation built upon the foundations written by men, Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton contributed a great ordeal of their lives into the creation of it. From similar childhoods to conflicting perceptions of government, Jefferson and Hamilton paved the way for the future of the nation. Through the comparison of Jefferson and Hamilton, by using factors of character, politics, and legacy, it is beyond question that Hamilton’s ambitious personality, politically involved nature, and estate truly resonates with history on a higher account compared to Jefferson.
Of the many figures in American History, Alexander Hamilton has proven himself one of the most versatile and influential. His policies and ideals have helped the United States blossom into a prosperous world power. Through his power as secretary of Treasury and his convincing intellectual efforts, he was able to dominate the nations early political environment. Hamilton’s patriotic endeavors have proven themselves to be durable and in the best interests of the United States.
The book was the biography about one of our founding fathers and our first Treasury-Secretary. While reading the 800-page book, Manuel stated: "Hip-hop songs started rising off the page" (PBS). Alexander Hamilton was born in the Caribbean and was raised in a broken family surrounded by slavery. His father left him, his mother passed away and there was a devastating hurricane on his home island of St. Croix. Alexander Hamilton put pen to paper and wrote a poem and as a result of his writing, won a scholarship and found his way to America. Lin-Manuel describes him as "An immigrant and an outsider who writes his way in" (Keeper of the Flame). When Lin-Manuel read that Hamilton wrote a poem to get off the
In conclusion, Alexander Hamilton was a driven intellect who created a name for himself in the United States of America after immigrating from the Caribbean. In conclusion Alexander hamilton greatly affected american battles, part of the economy and the documents that hold our country together. Alexander Hamilton was disliked by many people but, he is now popular because of a hit Broadway show created by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Hamilton was born on January 11, 1755 or 1757 in Charleston, Nevis in the British West Indies. He was abandoned by his father which made him an orphan at the age of 13. Hamilton started attending school in Elizabethtown, New Jersey but, plans changed, and he entered Kings College. At the age of 17 he was already interested in government. People have dreams of what they want to do or accomplish in life, but usually musical theatre is just pushed into the non-realistic void. It isn’t a dream for me. In the past four years, musical theatre has been clarified as my reality. Musical theatre has been the only thing I have seen myself wanting to do. My first love was The Phantom of the Opera, seeing how I watched it almost every day and it was one of the first shows I saw. Of course, I started doing all of those cute shows in middle school and making a huge deal about it to my family and friends, but I have never felt so passionate about something. The minute I get up on that stage I throw away Riley for two and a half hours and it’s the most amazing feeling! Being able to tell a story
The broadway hit play Hamilton, written by Lin Manuel Miranda, is viewed as an educational play about Alexander Hamilton, one of the United States’ founding fathers and the first Secretary of the Treasury. The play captures the spirit of Alexander Hamilton’s ambition, eloquence, and mistakes in a revolutionary format-as revolutionary as Hamilton himself! Combining rap, musical theater, and history, Hamilton is an enthralling and entertaining play that is mostly accurate to the real Alexander Hamilton. The details of Hamilton’s life and relationships that were misrepresented in the play to achieve the theatrical flair.
Earlier historians believed that education in the history department would separate the social classes into two groups, the educated versus the uneducated. Knowledge of history should not be determined by society. You either know your material or you do not completely understand it due to how it is explained. What I did not know, was that our family trees provide us with an understanding of how our families contributed to our ever changing history. Predicting our futures with history can be challenging because we sometimes receive uninformative facts that our teachers or modern historians might not know. For example, Howard Zinn wrote a chapter in his book A People’s history on Christopher Columbus and why we should not celebrate Columbus
When Karl Marx wrote “the Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte,” he interpreted the historical stage and his writing of history as parts of a theatre: he writes;
Theatre has heavily evolved over the past 100 years, particularly Musical Theatre- a subgenre of theatre in which the storyline is conveyed relying on songs and lyrics rather than dialogue. From its origination in Athens, musical theatre has spread across the world and is a popular form of entertainment today. This essay will discuss the evolution and change of musical theatre from 1980-2016, primarily focusing on Broadway (New York) and the West End (London). It will consider in depth, the time periods of: The 1980s: “Brit Hits”- the influence of European mega musicals, the 1990s: “The downfall of musicals”- what failed and what redeemed, and the 2000s/2010s: “The Resurgence of musicals”- including the rise of pop and movie musicals. Concluding
As someone pursuing an undergraduate degree in history, historic preservation would be a very complimentary career choice. Although there is a plethora of other career choices, such as a researcher, intelligence analyst, lawyer, advertising executive, information manager or business person, to name a few, historic preservation allows a direct and hands-on
A career goal of mine would be to make it in the history field after completing my studies in my college year. Three assessments that correlate to my goal are the Holland Code/ Career Autobiography, Time Management, and Academic Plan. The Holland Code/ Career Autobiography showed me as being artistic, investigative, and realistic. My artistic interest mean I seek creativity in my work without rules interfering with the process. My investigative side relates the searching of information and identifying of ideas of thoughts. The realistic part seeks hand-on interaction and involvement in creations. These three helped me understand that I should seek an area of my field that allows me to be out in the field, creatively identifying and understanding the situations I may come across.
