While reading the case about Mr.Hossack 's murder i saw the wife, Mrs.Hossack, as innocent at first. The children all claimed that the two did not argue for over a year, so why would she kill him now verses a year ago? When the youngest child, Ivan Hossack, came to the stand and "told his story in a straight, unhesitating manner" it made it easier for me to believe in Mrs. Hossack 's innocence. The child even said that he saw his mother aiding his father when he called out for help. If she had been the one to swing the axe, why would she help him and risk getting in trouble? Most importantly, if he was conscious and talking, why wouldn 't he say who to murderer was? He could have easily identified his wife in the dark after being married for over twenty years, and yet he didn 't identify who had tried to kill him. Dr. Dean first stated that the axe did not hit the speech portion of the brain, so he could have been conscious and yelling out for his wife. Dean later stated that the fatal blow from the axe would have left Mr.Hossack unconscious. The murder weapon had blood on in and apparent hairs stuck to one side; "Prof. John L. Tilton of Simpson college... was unable to say definitely that the hair had been

The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson tells the story of Daniel Burnham’s World Fair and H.H. Holmes’ murder spree. The tale focuses much on the conflict between good and evil, light and dark. However, the book also goes deeper, utilizing contrast to demonstrate the greed, exclusiveness, and exploitation ever present in the Gilded Age of America. One of Larson’s first uses of contrast demonstrates the exploitation of the Gilded Age. On page 11, the very beginning of part I, Larson recounts how in the 1890s, young, single women were flocking to Chicago in large numbers and exercising their newfound independence by getting jobs.
In the novel, the author proposes that the African American female slave’s need to overcome three obstacles was what unavoidably separated her from the rest of society; she was black, female, and a slave, in a white male dominating society. The novel “locates black women at the intersection of racial and sexual ideologies and politics (12).” White begins by illustrating the Europeans’ two major stereotypes o...
On a chilly afternoon in late 1977, a young, newly-wed woman of 26 was dropped off at her Volkswagen Beetle by her sister-in-law. Her name was Gini McNair. She waved goodbye to her companion, unlocked the driver's door, and stepped into her vehicle. Sitting at the wheel, with the key in the ignition, she glanced around the deserted Boulder Canyon Road located outside of Boulder, Colorado. While waiting for her dusty red Volkswagen to warm up, she saw another one, light blue, heading down Sugarloaf Road towards her. When she glanced at the driver as he went past, he took the opportunity to look her over as well. With piercing eyes, Ted Bundy quickly examined Gini as he drove by her. When his eye caught hers, Gini immediately felt like she had just been delivered a swift punch in the stomach. He turned around at the bottom of Sugarloaf Road and drove over to where she was parked. As he walked over to her window, she rolled it down. He leaned in close and asked, "Are you having car trouble?"
Beginning with Mrs. Hopewell, the title of the story comes from what she likes to call the poorer and less fortunate people that live off the land and work their whole lives just to hang on to some scrap of a life. This is how she views these people. She believes that they are good country people not a bad seed among them, that they are all eager to help out and bow in humility to the upper class. The gullible nature of Mrs. Hopewell betrays her true vision of a situation. She is one of those people who are all goody-goody to people who they view as less fortunate. She’s a person that commends or speaks for the people she knows nothing about. Altogether this is her true weakness that is taken advantage of by Manley Pointer. One of ...

Mr. Boddy had everything locked and away when I got there.
Warm tears were running down my cheeks as I closed the door behind me. My brain just won’t register the information. How am I supposed to live with this? It’s all her fault.
To start with, I have had a lot go on in the past few weeks, involving family. My oldest brother Rowdy was arrested and that was really rough for me because I look up to him. My Mom bailed him out and he came home. He was so happy to be out and I talked with him and it was awesome to have him back. My grandma called Rowdy and asked if he could come over to eat and talk. Rowdy said he’ll be right over. He then takes off on the motorcycle and he doesn’t come back for a while and I’m freaking out. Then my mom calls me saying Rowdy was in a motorcycle accident and that she will be home soon. My Mom comes home and gets me then we rush to the hospital to see him. Thankfully he wasn’t too bad, he has a broken clavicle and severe road rash. Several days later he has surgery done to his clavicle and he is now in a lot of pain. It is hard to see
Nothing is ever what it seems in this in Agatha Christie’s novel, the limitations between reality and fiction or rather truth and deceit are blurring and real. The acclaimed novel The Murder of Roger Ackroyd integrates the subtle techniques of hidden meaning from the narrator by means of which a special narrator-reader connection is created and trust is assumed from the narrator by the reader. This coalition has the reader enter a novel where deductions, details and misleading pathways play a starring role. The most misleading pathway would be that of the idea of truth. The truth in this novel, while being the main goal, is subjective and is able to be twisted while not actually becoming a false statement by the narrator while his partner
The story started off with an amount: one dollar and eighty-seven cents—sixty cents of which were in pennies. Those pennies were the product of Della's haggling, wheedling, and begging with the merchants they dealt with regularly. A penny off here for too-ripe tomatoes, perhaps, or two pennies off the meat there that had been on the shelf too long. It was the day before Christmas, and Della was worried about what present to give her husband. After months of scrimping and saving, she only had one dollar and eighty-seven cents to spend on a gift, and this was clearly not enough.
