Everything is connected in some way. When one universe blinks out of existence, another begins to form. When a living thing dies it’s energy or life force is released and another being, or two or three, is born. The Multiverse is a never ending cycle of constant rebirth. Each universe is connected, and once in a great while, an opening allows something to squeeze through to another universe. “Anna? Anna! Stop daydreaming.” Adrianna snapped out of a fog to the sound of a demanding and slightly high pitched voice. Her green eyes staring blankly at her friends nicely tanned face for a moment before she remembered they were having lunch in the park. She sighed softly while rubbing her eyes and pushing hair curly brown locks back from her pale face. The park they were in was fairly small and quiet, it was one of the main reasons they visited this one. It had more trees and less walkways than most of the other places they had scoped out for their daily meetings, and they were usually the only two there. The larger parks were closer to work, but they were also bustling with people jogging or walking their dogs. They wanted to get away from the loud noises of the city, but knew they didn’t have time to venture out of town just for lunch. Adrianna had been ecstatic when her friend Deidre had found this quaint little spot for their luncheons. “I’m sorry, Dee. I didn’t sleep very well last night. I guess I’ve been drifting a lot, huh? What were you saying again?” She asked, hating how her voice always sounded slightly hoarse. Her dislike of her voice always resulted in her speaking quietly, so as not to disturb others. Her friends always told her it sounded sultry, but she knew better. She had heard herself many times on the answering ... ... middle of paper ... ...Anna in some of those fancy dresses she had bought. She had even went as far as to take Adrianna’s measurements so she could have them custom made. As they walked to the spot where they took their separate paths, Deidre gave Adrianna a quick hug and said quickly, “I’ll pick you up tonight at 7. Be sure to pack lightly, since I’ll have clothes for you to wear. I can’t wait, see you then!” Adrianna chuckled as she said a quick goodbye and headed towards the coffee shop. Her mind drifting back to the dream she had been desperately trying to remember. It was the same dream she had every night, though she was left with nothing more than a pair of light grey eyes upon waking each morning. Eyes that were as cold and empty as their color suggested. Eyes that were burned so deeply into her memory, she was sure she would recognize them if she were ever encounter their owner.
While walking downtown with her girlfriend, the author describes as, “[her] heart began to skip every other beat, pounding, pounding, pounding … [as she stood] paralyzed like a frightened, little jackrabbit.” Repetition of the word “pounding” in the text develops a fast pace, indicating the urgency and panic felt by the author; terms such as paralyzed are utilized to emphasize the urgent, panicked mood. However, sanguine moods still persist throughout the narrative. For example, in the opening paragraph the author describes how she, “watch[ed] the golden dots of morning light glide across [her] ceiling, [and she] melted into a feeling of peace specific to the freedom of early summer.” Terms such as “golden,” “glide,” “peace,” and “early summer” help the reader detect a placid mood in the text, directing the reader towards the state of contentment the author feels surrounding her relationship. Mood differentiations in the text, from the urgency of the narrator’s walk downtown to the tranquil peace of the narrator’s relationship, indicate the contrasting aspects of the LGBT+ community, both in terms of the impending fear of violence, and the love that is the
But then something happened—Pemberton Park became popular. Especially among couples. Lovers would walk holding hands and the young man would sit silently, jealous and mad that they were invading his space. It happened more and more, but he did nothing. Nothing…nothing…until one night, almost twenty-five years ago, when his old girlfriend came to Pemberton Park with her new lover. When he saw her, he was filled with rage. He could not take it any more. Night fell, and his old girlfriend kissed her new boyfriend. It was her last kiss.
“I wanted to get out and walk eastward toward the park through the soft twilight but each time I tried to go I became entangled in some wild strident argument which pulled me back, as if with ropes, into my chair. Yet high over the city our line of yellow windows must have contributed their share of human secrecy to the casual watcher in the darkening streets, and I was him too, looking up and wondering. I was within and without, simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life.
The last time I went to the park, the air was refreshing and fresh. Several children were making use of the toys and equipment that was available to them at the park. One child was swinging while two others spun around on an old merry-go-round. There were only a few people present at the park that day. When we arrived at the park on Cinco de Mayo, it was the opposite of what I expected or I’ve experienced about parks in the past. For starters, the park was packed with people. I’ve never seen a park so busy. During this said day, the park was a place for the Hispanic people use to escape the constraints of the world. Compared to the time I went to a park; the air was filled with smoke from both the grill and the cigarette people were smoking. The air wasn’t fresh nor refreshing because of all the pollution due to the people that occupied the park. There were a lot of kids running around and playing with the things that was at the park. Compared to the time I went to the park where there were about 3 kids at the park, there were more than 15 kids playing with each other on Cinco de Mayo.
The flowers surrounding me once again blended into an array of hues as I let my mind wander. “Look Grandpa, he’s over there!” A little blond girl rushed over to the window, her curly. ponytail bouncing with every step she takes. Her cheeks were a flushed, rosy shade, and her green eyes sparkled like emeralds of excitement.
Wormholes are another spectacle of the universe that are thought to be found within black holes, but they are merely a theory and may or may not exist. Wormholes could be the way we could finally achieve many things that have been highly sought out for years. One of the many advances that could come from wormholes is that they have the potential of us finally being able to accomplish time travel, leaving us to wonder what we could do if wormholes truly exist. Black holes and wormholes are surrounded by mystery, but what are they really capable of? They are but one of the many
It was then that I remembered the usual thing, when I said to her: "Eyes of a blue dog." Without taking her hand off the lamp she said to me: "That. We'll never forget that." She left the orbit, sighing: "Eyes of a blue dog. I've written it everywhere." I saw her walk over to the dressing table. I watched her appear in the circular glass of the mirror, looking at me now at the end of a back and forth of mathematical light. I watched her keep on looking at me with her great hot-coal eyes looking at me while she opened the little box covered with pink mother of pearls.
On September 9th, 2017 at approximately 7 p.m., I went to Gracedale Public Park to carefully conduct my observation on the individuals, who were at the park and their specific activities in the one hour of time. When I got there, the weather was beautiful with soft winds, a clear sky and with some dim sunlight. The park was full of people of all ages. Though, there were more kids than adults and some teenagers. There were many bicycles and strollers parked beside the tree I sat under. After a couple of minutes, the park filled up with more and more individuals and everyone seemed busy doing their own actions.
Upon arrival into the jungle of vast buildings, the first thing noticed is the mobbed streets filled with taxi cabs and cars going to and fro in numerous directions, with the scent of exhaust surfing through the air. As you progress deeper into the inner city and exit your vehicle, the aroma of the many restaurants passes through your nostrils and gives you a craving for a ?NY Hot Dog? sold by the street venders on the corner calling out your name. As you continue your journey you are passed by the ongoing flow of pedestrians talking on their cell phones and drinking a Starbucks while enjoying the city. The constant commotion of conversing voices rage up and down the streets as someone calls for a fast taxi. A mixed sound of various music styles all band together to form one wild tune.
Throughout the ages, outstanding physicists, to the movies, to some of the greatest science fiction novels of all time, have pondered the idea of time-travel. The thought of actually being able to travel to another time or universe has long since enthralled, enveloped, and overwhelmed some of the greatest minds in the history of physics. No one person can actually prove any of their theories, but a few actually make sense. Meaning that they do not violate the laws of physics. One of the main theories suggested, are wormholes. Wormholes are considered to connect two regions of flat space-time, two universes, or two parts of the same universe. There is a lot of theoretical evidence that wormholes exist, with an equal amount of evidence that they do not exist. However, no matter what one’s belief is, the existence of wormholes still makes you wonder…
The Universe is a collection of millions of galaxies and extends beyond human imagination. After the big bang, the universe was found to be composed of radiation and subatomic particles. Information following big bang is arguable on how galaxies formed, that is whether small particles merged to form clusters and eventually galaxies or whether the universe systematized as immense clumps of matter that later fragmented into galaxies (Nasa World book, 2013). A galaxy is a massive area of empty space full of dust, gases (mainly 75% Hydrogen and 25%Helium), atoms, about 100-200 billion stars, interstellar clouds and planets, attracted to the center by gravitational force of attraction. Based on recent research, 170 billion galaxies have been estimated to exist, with only tens of thousands been discovered (Deutsch, 2011).
While in the park, people forget all about their routines and commitments that everyday constrained our attentive minds and regularly predetermine our actions a...
Survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 from the popular television show Lost are thrown by a hydrogen bomb explosion into a multiverse where history has been altered to make it seem as if they never crashed on the island. Travelers stepping on the “Einstein-Rosen-Podolsky Bridge,” in all five seasons of the television show Sliders, enter through a vortex, or wormhole, and into a multiverse. Crewmembers of the Federation Starship Enterprise from Star Trek, in an episode entitled “Mirror, Mirror," are swapped with their evil counterparts due to a transporter mishap, and as a result, also enter a multiverse. These three instances illustrate how the multiverse has now become commonplace in science fiction allowing us to consider what is beyond observable reality. The multiverse is used not only in television shows, but also in films like The Wizard of Oz, Back to the Future, and Donnie Darko. It’s employed beyond the screen while remaining integral to science fiction literature that can range from The Epic of Gilgamesh, Brazen Head (1955), and even in DC and Marvel Comics. More than a widespread cultural phenomenon, the multiverse stretches “the fabric of reality” (Deutsch, 1997) through scientific discourses of and about observable reality.
I awoke to the sun piercing through the screen of my tent while stretching my arms out wide to nudge my friend Alicia to wake up. “Finally!” I said to Alicia, the countdown is over. As I unzip the screen door and we climb out of our tent, I’m embraced with the aroma of campfire burritos that Alicia’s mom Nancy was preparing for us on her gargantuan skillet. While we wait for our breakfast to be finished, me and Alicia, as we do every morning, head to the front convenient store for our morning french vanilla cappuccino. On our walk back to the campsite we always take a short stroll along the lake shore to admire the incandescent sun as it shines over the gleaming dark blue water. This has become a tradition that we do every morning together
