The movie Invincible is based on a true story on a 30 year guy old named Vince Papale. Vince was a huge football fan and his favorite team was the Philadelphia Eagles. Vince worked as a teacher and a part-time bartender in Philadelphia. One after morning as Vince went to work at his teaching job, the principal called him into his office to tell him that he was being let go because of budget cuts. So that only left him with the bartender job, which he was already struggling financial with both jobs. Vince was not only dealing with losing his job, his wife also gave up on him saying he’ll never amount to anything and she asked for a divorce. One night working at the bar Vince and his buddies were watching the television, because the Philadelphia …show more content…
Eagles announced that they hired a new coach named Dick Vermeil. The Philadelphia Eagles hired coach Vermeil because they have been a very below average team that have been struggling to have a winning season.
During the press conference coach Vermeil had while on the television, he announced that the Eagles were having open try outs to the public. When the bar heard that they all looked at Vince and wanted to try out to become an Eagle. The reason all his buddies had faith in him because they knew he could play he was the star player when they would play sandlot football. At first Vince didn’t believe he could even make it out of try outs. Vince’s buddies finally convinced him to go out there and try out for the Eagles. While trying out for the Eagles Vince performed well and earned himself a roster spot with the Philadelphia …show more content…
Eagles. Even though Vince made the tryouts he still had to survive through training camp and the 53-man roster cuts. During the last round of cuts the coaching staff of the Eagles had a meeting and they had to pick who is going to make the roster out of Vince or this other player. All of the assistant coaches had picked the other player over Vince. They knew Vince could play they just didn’t want him on the team because he was already 30 years old and he never played college football. The head coach; coach vermeil really liked Vince but the assistant coaches had convinced him into cutting Vince from the team. Coach Vermeil liked Vince because while he was at training camp he played with heart. The next day coach Vermeil was having dinner with his wife and his she reminded him that he was the head coach and if he wanted to keep Vince on the team then he should. Coach Vermeil wife questioned his character about cutting Vince. So the next day coach Vermeil met with the other coaches and told them they were keeping Vince on the team. Vince was not a favorite to make the team there was a scene where Vince walk into the locker room for the first time and fined that the janitor had misspelled his name on the locker.
The janitor replied by saying “Nothing personal but by the time I'm through with this is it really going to matter.” Vince overcame a lot not even a janitor believed in him. One person who always believed in Vince though was his dad Frank Papale; he believed Vince could play professional and when Vince was officially a Philadelphia Eagle he made his father so proud. Vince excelled at being a kickoff defender and became a star player on the special teams; helping the Eagles win their first game of the season by forcing a fumble and picking it up and running it in for a touchdown. When Vince started producing on the field and scored that touchdown Vince’s dad Frank told him. “That touchdown got me through 30 years at that factory. Got me through all those times your mother being sick. When I told you not to get your hopes up...didn't mean that I
wasn't.” The major ethical issue in the movie was the decision coach Vermeil made by keeping Vince on the team. The other coaches knew Vince could play but they didn’t want him because he was 30 years old. Coach Vermeil didn’t care about how old Vince was, he just knew that he showed them talent and attitude. Vince displayed great passion and the desire for the opportunity that he made the best of. Coach Vermeil just wanted the best players on the team. That move by coach Vermeil to sign Vince was not only ethical but it was also very courageous because none of the other coaches believed in him but still gave him a chance to prove himself. This movie fit well with the discussing we had in class about discrimination. The assistant coaches discriminated against Vince because he was 30 years old and never played college football; even though they knew he could make the Philadelphia Eagles a better team.

The documentary, The Interrupters, is a film that tells the ongoing journey of three ‘violence interrupters’ who’s goals are to stop and prevent violence from their South Side Chicago, Illinois neighborhoods, which they once took part of. An interesting aspect of this film is that Ameena Matthews, Cobe Williams and Eddie Bocanegra, the three ‘violence interrupters’, reflect on their experiences with violence in the streets of Chicago in order to better help these young men and women avoid the community violence. These three ‘violence interrupters’ work intensely with a number of people (mostly young adults) who are prone to acting out and violent behavior.
On March 24, 1976, Peyton was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Archie and Olivia Manning. He was the second of three boys. Cooper and Eli are his siblings. Peyton developed his skills from watching his dad play for the New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings. In 1991, Peyton became the starting quarterback for Isidore Newman High in New Orleans where he felt comfortable playing with Cooper, the top receiver. After being recruited by several different colleges, Peyton chose the Tennessee Volunteers. Under Peyton’s leadership, the volunteers steadily climbed to a high national ranking. Also while playing for Tennessee Peyton set forty-two conference, school, and NCAA records. Although he was finished in three years and was expected to turn pro, he chose to stay with Tennessee one more year. In his last year with the Volunteers he led them to the National Championship in the Orange Bowl. The following year Peyton, the number one overall NFL draft pick, became the starting quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts.
Obsessive compulsive disorder was also displayed in this film portrayed by Pat’s dad, Pat Sr. Pat Sr. showed a true obsession with football by relying his income on illegal bookmaking. San Francisco culture was also mended by the cities’ love for their sports teams, especially the San Francisco 49’ers. According to Talbot, the 49’s was one of the worst teams in history during the late 1970’s. It was a depressing and dark time in San Francisco, and the teams loses only seemed to make the city seem more angry and restless, but regardless, never unfaithful. It wasn't until they plummeted their losses and fired Thomas, that they decided to start seeking out their new angel, Bill Walsh. Walsh did not succeed at first nor for the first couple seasons, but was able to recruit Joe Montana and Dwight Clark who created history for the 49ers. Walsh was a very good coach, strategic, education oriented, and was greatly respected by the team. Not
In the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind stresses the importance of memory and how memories shape a person’s identity. Stories such as “In Search of Lost Time” by Proust and a report by the President’s Council on Bioethics called “Beyond Therapy” support the claims made in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Vince Lombardi, most likely the best coach to ever lead a team to victory or multiple ones on a football field. His ethics sometimes questionable, but never misunderstood, were always meant to lead and encourage his team to be nothing but the best, and the best was achieved in 1967. After nine incredible winning seasons with the Green Bay Packers, Lombardi decided to retire as head coach. The Packers had dominated professional football under his direction, collecting six division titles, five NFL championships, two Super Bowls and acquiring a record of 98-30-4. After less than a year, however, he realized that he still wanted to coach. He accepted the head coaching position for the Washington Redskins in 1969. During that season, he kept what had become the Lombardi tradition and led the Redskins to their first winning record in 14 years. In January of 1970, his professional coaching record stood at a remarkable 105-35-6, and the NFL named him their acclaimed "1960s Man of the Decade."
On June 6, 1943, in Greenbow, Alabama, an unexpected hero was born with a crooked spine and strong legs. Forrest Gump is not an expected conventional hero, however his accolades and accomplishments suggest otherwise. A hero is someone who inspires and instills good morals upon others by their courageous and outstanding acts. Forrest demonstrates these characteristics multiple times during his heroic journey. Whether it be diplomatic pingpong, fighting in the Vietnam War, becoming a local football legend at the University of Alabama or donating money to a deceased friend’s family, Forrest influenced many people with his unselfish and charitable acts. Joseph Campbell’s monomyth consists of the following stages: taking place in an ordinary world, a call to adventure, refusal of said call, meeting with a mentor, crossing the threshold, trials and tribulations, an approach to the final challenge, an ordeal, a reward, the journey back, a purification or resurrection into the normal world and a return home with the capabilities to alter the world in which he lives. Many heroes follow this journey and Forrest Gump is no exception.
The movie Courageous discusses important issues we face in society today. This movie shows the importance of family, the danger of drugs, and the major importance of Christian values. Courageous causes me to consider how I treat others around me and how I can become a better Christian. I learned that living a life looking out only for myself and pursuing worldly pleasures not only consists of superficial and temporary happiness, but also consists of pain, suffering, emptiness and a longing for something more than what we have.
