Being a loner does not necessarily mean wanting to be alone, or avoiding the company of other people like the dictionary defines it. My definition of a loner is an outcast or a person who people don’t want to be around. A loner could also be a widower or a widow, a psychic. A loner could also be a person that doesn’t have the opportunity to be around people. Psychologist Arthur Ashe uses his quote to support my definition which says I accepted the face that as much as I want to lead others, and love to be around people, in some essential way, I am something of a loner. An outcast is a person who is rejected or cast out of the society. This could be due to various reasons. This made a lot of people loners, because once they were cast out there was nowhere to go and nobody to talk to. During the years of the fore fathers a lot of people were considered outcasts because of one offence or the other. For example, years back when my uncle was caught sleeping with his cousin’s wife he was cast out of the community and was restricted to talking to anybody which makes him a lone...
Outcast United, written by warren St. John, illustrates the numerous struggles refugees face and how they can look past complex differences and come together with a little help from Luma Mufleh and her soccer program. The outcast united is used symbolically to indicate the union of a town, a team and a coach in a spontaneous social experiment. It is a story about refugees from Sudan, Congo, and Burundi among other countries who were resettled in a small town named Clarkston. In this book, St. John tells a true story of refugee families that moved to Clarkston, Georgia. As all of the families struggle to make their new and better life in the small town of Clarkston, Georgia, Luma Mufleh changed the refugee community of Clarkston for the better
Most people miss family and friends that have moved or died. Some just may be shy and not have friends. Loneliness is something one can’t do anything about. It will happen. You can’t even make a law against it because it is a feeling. Some get over there loneliness by meeting new people, but still others never get over it and live lonely.
Being Lonely – The subjective state of feeling alone regardless of whether you are by yourself or around other people
Isolation is being separated or separating your self from others. Marry Shelley’s Frankenstein and Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, both show the two types of isolation. Loneliness, unfriendly, and separation for ones peace can also mean the same as isolation. No matter what way you look at it, they all mean the same thing. Great examples of these are in Frankenstein and A Christmas Carol; the characters show it very well, which sets the tone and mood of the stories. In A Christmas Carol and Frankenstein, Victor choses to be isolated and separates himself from society to work on the unknown, which is to recreate life. Victor’s teacher was the reason he was isolated, “he took [him] into his laboratory and explained to [him] the uses of his
The outcast archetype describes a figure or character that is rejected by a group. There is often a high level of anxiety linked with this idea, as there is a great deal more vulnerability living outside the group than there is in being an integral part of it. Grendel and his mother are elucidated as outcasts from the very beginning, being descendants from Cain. “Grendel was the name of this grim demon haunting the marches, marauding round the heath and the desolate fens; he had dwelt for a time in misery among the banished monsters, Cain's clan, whom the creator had outlawed and condemned as outcasts. For the killing of Abel the Eternal Lo...
Isolation is a state of being separation between persons or group, or a feeling being alone. There are different factors that contribute to someone feeling alone and isolated. An example of this would be when celebrities go into deep depression because they feel isolated from the whole world. They have all the material things they could ever want, but the one thing they want the most, they do not have. , which is happiness, which comes from satisfaction within oneself and being satisfied with what one has done in one's life. Feeling isolated does not necessarily mean a person is bad. Evidence in Shakespeare play Macbeth , demonstrates this quite clearly that MacBeth's isolation comes from guilt , over-ambition and greed.
In the world of today, people of different ethnicities, cultures, and groups, such as religion, live in the same communities more often times than not. Although they are technically an association, there still tends to be a “black sheep”, or in other words, an outcast among the group. These unlucky or perhaps lucky, depending on the point of view, individuals are then alienated either in a positive or negative way. On one hand there exist a variety of people that believe being an outsider is only experienced by a select few. On the other hand some argue that everyone at one point or another is isolated from the rest of society. However, the fact that there lives so many distinct individual’s tends to make people favor only one of the claims. The experience of being an outsider is undoubtedly universal due to people belonging to different groups, having distinct personalities as well
Loneliness is what people complain about when being without another person to socialize with. One may feel lonely when: you’re alone and you don’t you have a choice not to be, you are facing challenges in your life with school, a new town, job, or other changes, you feel there’s no one in your life with whom you can share your feelings with, you feel unacceptable, unlovable, and not worthwhile (Loneliness 1).
People create their own society but remain alienated until they recognize themselves within their own creation. Until this time people will assign an independent existence to objects, ideas and institutions and be controlled by them. In the process they lose themselves, become strangers in the world they created: they become alienated. The notion of alienation is an ancient one. St Augustine wrote: That's a lot.
I believe John Oakhurst is an outcast because he is a gambler, he is a loner, and he committed suicide. I think there are more reasons than the ones I came up with. In the following paragraphs I’ll explain why he is an outcast.
In the chapter “Solitude” in the book “Walden” from Henry David Thoreau he explains that although he is cut off from all social interaction and technology he is not alone saying “I am no more lonely than a single mullein or dandelion in a pasture, or a bean leaf, or sorrel, or a horse-fly, or a bumblebee.” I agree with his statement because people’s definition of lonely is very different then Thoreau’s. Not everyone thinks alike and nobody thinks the same.
Loneliness cannot be considered to be synonymous with being alone, nor can having people around assure protection from feeling lonely. Loneliness may be experienced in the presence of many people around or when not unaccompanied by anyone, loneliness may not be experienced. Loneliness is particularly upsetting and painful where as being alone may be pleasant or
I feel uncomfortable in my own world. Being alone unnerves me. I always have felt the need to share my world, my mind and my feelings with somebody. My feelings about myself seem less important than what others think of me. I'm scared of being lonely. And so are we all. We all seem to be on a continuous search for someone who will really love and understand us. Someone to provide us with a purpose for life. And yet I think we are all essentially alone. We are alone in our thoughts an emotions.
In fact, beside freedom, single people also feel lonely and detached. According to psychological terms, they are lacking of belonging need which is the basic self-actualization of human beings. In contrast, love and companionship in marriage will fulfill belonging need. They will complete people life and also revitalize them after experiencing failure. My closest friend once told me that even though she earlier succeeds in her career than any other peers, she always feels empty, incomplete, and struggled in her own way. Because her career is now stable, I suggested that she should take care of herself more and find someone to whom she can share her success. Now she has two lovely kids and seems to be satisfied with her life. Personally, I used to dream of a happy marriage with someone I love in the rest of my life. However, after several separations, I begin to accept the single life and the lonely. Being single can heal my past disconsolation and keep me moving on. I can also readjust my injured emotion when I am alone. Therefore, I am able to reform myself a stronger and more independent person. Our emotion is significantly different when we are single and married. However, single life or married life is not as important as being fulfilled and happy with the life we choose to
Such a simple definition for something people consider so bad and complex. A poet known as Halmos in 1952 said once, “ I have discovered that all the unhappiness of man arises from one single fact, that they are incapable of staying quietly in their own chamber”. Alone time has always been important for our everyday lives but some choose to believe it is toxic. However alone time is extremely good for your health and beneficial to your life. Spending time alone has numerous benefits and today I’m gonna mention just a few. According to a 2015 study from the the Mercola health organization, “spending time alone helps your mind and body process information and stress from your
