I am here to present my vision of the play known as Frankenstein’s monster, a play once directed by Tom Hallyer. Frankenstein’s monster is set in a gloomy era around the time of the First World War. A mad scientist by the name of Doctor Frankenstein plans to gather the bodies of the fallen soldiers from the war, combining them in his secret laboratory. Frankenstein is soon forced to choose between his fiancée Elizabeth and his own creations life. He is quick to make the judgement but after the decision was made the monster had escaped and ran off seeking refuge in the forest, he spots a bright light in the distance and follows it leading to the home of an old blind man known as De Lacey along with his son Felix and daughter Agatha. Ambition is what drives Doctor Frankenstein to conduct his inhumane experiment on the bodies of those who were once the living. A quote on ambition seen in the current play is “Beauty is nothing, do you hear me NOTHING! Most important is that I – Frankenstein an about to hand this creature the great gift of life. For the first time in the history of the world, I am about to create life”. This quote indicates that Frankenstein wishes for his legacy as the astonishing scientist he presumes to be. The techniques that I will be adapting to emphasize the meaning of ambition will include the following, gestures, tone of speech and stage direction. These will be used in scene 3 when Frankenstein is about to give the creature life. The tone of his voice shall change to give the audience the impression that he is going slightly insane and his work has started to take over his whole life along with gestures he shall make which will cause him to become jittery and always moving, causing him to be stressed. The stage direction will be used to show him constantly pacing in an agitated mood. The concept of ambition is important in the play and real life as it is the reason people urge themselves to achieve their goals and desires which is what Frankenstein will display throughout the whole …show more content…

A quote about rejection from the play is found in chapter 5 and reads as followed. “No! They will look at me and hate me”. This quote is spoken by the monster and means that even tho he has not yet had contact will those that can clearly see, he can already tell that he will be considered an outsider and rejected as did Doctor Frankenstein. The techniques that I plan to interoperate into this scene include aside, tone of voice and gestures. The monsters tone of voice shall turn brittle as if he is about to cry, this also shows how the monster has matured over the few months he has being alive by being able to undergo human emotions. The gestures that the monster will use shall look like he is trying to push away everyone close to him by covering his face and shaking them around when trying to deny something. And the monster will use aside as a way of connecting with the audience by saying small lines such as “all I want is to be accepted”. This will cause the audience to feel emotions such as compassion, pity and sorrow for the monster. Rejection is not something that anyone wants to experience but it shows us what the monster has had to deal with ever since he was
