Dystopian novels have been becoming increasingly popular among teens. A dystopian novel is book that is based around a society that is characterized by oppression and misery. It is a society that creates the illusion of a perfect environment. Teens enjoy this genre mostly because they can relate to the theme. Teens often feel trapped and controlled by a higher authority.an example would be the government in many of these books. A novel that has a dystopian society in “Anthem” by Any Rand. A movie that is based around a dystopian society is The Maze Runner. The novel “Anthem” and the movie The Maze Runner are popular amongst teens because of the oppression in their young adult life.

The people in these texts are experiencing oppression. In “Anthem” they feel this way because they are being controlled by a higher authority and can not be individuals. In the movie The Maze Runner directed by Wes Ball the boys are feeling oppression because they are trapped and do not know why. in both texts they are frustrated because they want to be different and free but a higher authority is keeping them from that. Also in both texts they have rebels as main characters. The characters That are rebels have the most problem by the way things are being handled. They both go against the government and try to change things. Another this that the government controls in both stories is that they get assigned jobs.
