The Many Themes of A Tale of Two Cities
The Tale of Two Cities has many assorted themes. The themes are
interconnected with each other. Theme plays a big part in the plot a book. The
opinions formed by the audience, of the characters, are also affected by the
themes in a book. Three themes in this book are sacrifice, love and hate, and
death; these themes show up many times in this book. The themes in this book
are shown through the characters and their actions.
Sacrifice shows up in the book many times. Sacrifice is giving up
something that is apart of your life that you do not really want to give up.
The greatest sacrifice in the book is Carton's death. He sacrifices his life
for his love for Lucie Manette. Sydney Carton met his death with great dignity.
In fulfilling his old promise to Lucie, Carton attains peace; those watching see
"The peacefullest man's face ever beheld"(366) at the guillotine. Charles
Darnay gives up his estate in France, for the idea of working in England. His
decision to become a teacher put him in a conflict with his uncle, the Marquis
St. Evremonde. Miss Pross lost her hearing when she tried to stop Madame
Defarge from killing Lucie and her family. Miss Pross was the loyal servant for
Lucie. She showed her loving devotion to Lucie by fighting off Madame Defarge.
Many characters are skilled with the force of love in this book. Miss
Pross, fought off Madame Defarge for the reason that she loved Lucie, and did
not want anything to happen to her. The true love was the feelings of Sydney for
Lucie. This love was so great he sacrificed his own life for her. He showed
more love for her than for himself. Hate is also plays a big part in the book.
Madame Defarge had so much hate she went to the extent of trying to kill Lucie.
This backfired and instead of Lucie dying she died in a struggle versus Miss
Pross. Even Madame Defarge's husband Earnest Defarge shows hate when he
accidentally runs over a peasant's son and kills him. Mr. Defarge showed no
remorse for what he had done, and instead was very hateful toward the father of
Lastly and most importantly would be Lucie’s elaborate expression of sentimentality in her constant fainting at the least sign of distress. However unbearable it might have seemed, the reader could not fully appreciate the significance of her character and why she was loved by so many equally sentimental; characters in the novel. When Lucie early on testifies at Darnay’s trial in the English court, she says, “He was kind, and good, and useful to my father. I hope,” and here she bursts into tears, “ I may not repay him by doing him harm here today.” Her deep sensitivity and generous nature shines through. And remember, when Lucie stands forlornly and devotedly at a place near the Paris prison in order for her husband, Darnay, to glimpse her and their child, it is clear that Dickens wanted to portray her as a loving, faithful, and sympathetic person.
Wal-Mart was able to enter the international market by opening Club Aurrera in Mexico City in 1991 and a Wal-Mart store in Puerto Rico the following year. On April 5, 1992, Sam Walton passed away, and was succeeded by his eldest son, S. Robson Walton, as Chairman of the corporate board of directors. In 1996, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. began trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSE). The following year, the company replaced Woolworth on the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Also, this same year, the company had its first $100 billion sales year, with sales totaling $118.1 billion.
Traditional business intelligence tools are being replaced by data discovery software. The data discovery software has numerous capabilities that are dominating purchase requirements for larger distribution. A challenge remaining is the ability to meet the dual demands of enterprise IT and business users.
Data mining is continuingly growing in use throughout many different industries for a variety of business purposes. Some of these industries are financial and banking, healthcare, retail, etc. (Groth, 2000). One of the main uses of data mining is marketing a company’s products and or services to customers (Groth, 2000).
There are many themes that occur and can be interpreted differently throughout the novel. The three main themes that stand out most are healing, communication, and relationships.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is in the discount, variety stores industry. It was founded in 1945, Bentonville in Arkansas which is also the headquarters of Wal-Mart. 1. If I were to design Ben & Jerry’s data warehouse I would use several dimensions of information. The first dimension would consist of the company’s products; ice cream, frozen yogurt or merchandise. The marketing department has to know which products are selling, if Ben & Jerry’s didn’t know that their T-shirts are selling out as soon as they hit the stores, then they wouldn’t be able to take advantage of the opportunity to sell the shirts. The second dimension would consist of the different areas of sales; US, Canada, Mexico, or Europe. I am not sure if they sell their ice cream in Mexico, but with data collection they can find out if their ice cream would be a better seller in the hot climate, rather than pushing for greater distribution in Canada. The third dimension would consist of the “specifics”; where the sale was made, when the sale was made, and who purchased the product. This information can help in the design of the product to focus on the buyer; it can tailor flavors to seasons, and packaging to buyer who looks for the better-looking product. If Ben & Jerry’s could know when a season was coming to an end in a specific area, then they could forecast the need or the decline in need and speed up, or slow down distribution to those areas. The focus of the information is that it needs to be useful, and almost any information is useful.
The first Walmart was located in Rogers, Arkansas, it was founded in 1962, by Sam Walton, he called it simply “Walton’s”. At first it started as a small town mom & pop store, and then it grew, the original store is actually now the location for The Walmart Museum.
The Darby Company is re-evaluating its current production and distribution system in order to determine whether it is cost-effective or if a different approach should be considered. The company produces meters that measure the consumption of electrical power. Currently, they produce these meters are two locations – El Paso, Texas and San Bernardino, California. The San Bernardino plant is newer, and therefore the technology is more effective, meaning that their cost per unit is $10.00, while the El Paso plant produces at $10.50. However, the El Paso plant has a higher capacity at 30,000 to San Bernardino’s 20,000. Once manufactured, the meters are sent to one of three distribution centers – Ft. Worth, Texas, Santa Fe, New Mexico and Las Vegas. Due to the proximity of El Paso to Ft. Worth, they are only plant to ship to Ft. Worth. The costs associated with each shipment are described in detail in Appendix 2.2A. From these distribution centers, meters are shipped to one of nine customer zones. The Ft. Worth center services Dallas, San Antonio, Wichita and Kansas City, the Santa Fe center services Denver, Salt Lake City, and Phoenix, and the Las Vegas center ships to Los Angeles and San Diego.
The retail giant started operations in 1962 and was founded by Sam Walton. Current, Wal-Mart is the fastest growing and the biggest retailer with a total of 3,400 stores within the United States and 3,300 other stores in other parts of the major cities in the world. The retail stores have 1.5 million employees and annual revenues of more than $350 Billion.
Nonetheless, there is no viable strategy to use these databases productively and to locate the important relationship in the middle of them. Association rule mining finds fascinating Association or connection among a lot of data things. With immense measures of data always being gathered and amassed, numerous enterprises and stores are demonstrating enthusiasm for mining relationship from this substantial accumulation of business exchange records, as it can help with numerous business basic leadership procedures, for example, index plan, cross-advertising and
For an abundance of authors, the driving force that aids them in creation of a novel is the theme or number of themes implemented throughout the novel. Often times the author doesn’t consciously identify the theme they’re trying to present. Usually a theme is a concept, principle or belief that is significant to an author. Not only does the theme create the backbone of the story, but it also guides the author by controlling the events that happen in a story, what emotions are dispersed, what are the actions of characters, and what emotions are presented within each environment to engage the readers in many
Currently, businesses want to use the information effectively for competitive advantage to make better decisions that improve and optimize business processes, predict the market dynamics accurately, optimize forecasts to adequately maintain resources to name a few reasons.
The themes that are picked out in the novel are: Trust, Romance, Friendships and Death.
