Leonardo is still known as one of the greatest mind that ever set foot on earth. His perspective helped us see work of art with actual contemptuous expression rather than being unrealistic. He was a man of many talents. Apart from being one of the greatest artists, he made contribution in Anatomy, and Invention in the world of engineering. Although his other discoveries and invention were not focused on as much, it changed society in a way that is impossible for one man to achieve. He broke barriers like God on earth. His ideas were unexplainable and unrealistic during his time, but toward the 19th century he inspired many engineers to develop models that were unattainable. Although Leonardo Da Vinci is known for his art work, he made amazing contribution in anatomy and engineering to help him open up his mind. What is art without a mystery behind it? Leonardo tried to connect with the world through a different perspective “sought a Universal language in painting,” (art). Although Leonardo learned from Verocchio, he quickly surpassed him, (art). Around his time Europe was mainly dominated by religion, so it was a challenge to paint divine figures realistically. According to the article Leonardo Da Vinci painting to paint a perfect art the artist must have complete control of the expression. The Last Supper is known as one of Leonardo’s greatest painting in which “his hand trembled whenever he attempted to paint it” because he expressed Christ as not ideal or divine, ( Painting). His sharp eye led him to discover unimaginable magic behind nature’s accomplishment of the human body and its proportion. Although he liked the idea of realism, he wanted to know the ideal proportion in detail to perfect the divine figures in his art. Leonardo believed that brain, heart, and lungs were “motors of the senses and of life,” (Heydenreich). His findings were never published because he believed his idea behind anatomy might give people wrong understanding of anatomy due to the fact that he didn’t consider himself a professional. I believe this shows a true work of a perfectionist because he knew the basic concept of anatomy, but didn’t know enough therefore didn’t publish his findings. Although not mention anywhere I believe his study of anatomy, and how he saw it as mechanical devices led him to study engineering.
Leonardo da Vinci was a man of art, science and innovation during the Renaissance Era. Although many of Leonardo’s paintings were unfinished or lost, we could see his influence in perspective, light and shadows, and primary colors in his paintings. To paint more realistic paintings, he first learned as an apprentice to Andrea del Verrocchio, a leading Florentine painter and sculptor. After 6 years he became an independent master and developed his own style of painting.
His incredibly important discoveries would’ve changed the European knowledge on the subject. His papers were untouched and unseen by the outside world for almost 400 years. Leonardo was very interested in the human body. His fascination led him to many hospitals and morgues around Florence. He performed dissections of the human body and even took part in executing criminals. He became incredibly close to revealing how blood circulation worked. One of his most famous anatomical drawings was of a hundred year old man who seemed to be in perfect health just hours before he passed away. The body was then dissected by Leonardo in hopes of determining the cause of death. It was found that the man had cirrhosis of the liver and a blockage in an artery in his heart. This became known as the first description of coronary vascular occlusion.
These paintings are famous for a variety of qualities which have been much imitated by students and discussed at great length by aficionados and critics (“Leonardo Da Vinci.” Biography Online.) Among the qualities that make Leonardo's work unique are the innovative techniques which he used in laying on the paint, and his detailed knowledge of anatomy, light, botany and geology. These combined with his interest in physiognomy and the way in which humans register emotion in expression and gesture and his innovative use of the human form in figurative composition, blend with subtle gradation of tone (“Simplifying a Genius.”). All these techniques are evident his most famous painted works: the Mona Lisa, the Last Supper and the Virgin of the Rocks (“The Secret Revealed: How to Look at Italian Renaissance Painting.”

The understanding of anatomy and physiology today deaden without the knowledge from the Renaissance period. Let’s take a short step to look at what is the Renaissance? Based on historians, Renaissance means rebirth because “it [is] believed that the human spirit [has] to be reawakened as it [is] in the classical (Greco-Roman) times” (The Renaissance). During this time, the new conception of human emerges as individualism which means a man can create his own destiny, and humanism where “humans are the center of the universe” (The Renaissance). With their free will and the motion in seeking personal fame, artists engage themselves in learning the structure of the human body to make their works more lifelike. With such knowledge, they build the foundation for the understanding of anatomy today. Of the many art works during this period, the Dead Christ by Andrea Mantegna has greatly contributed to this foundation of anatomy with its perspective depiction technique, understanding and knowledge of the body through Christ figure.

The interpretation of hidden messages in Leonardo's famous works, (which relate to the concept of the sacred feminine) including the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, figure prominently in the solution to the mystery.
More medical discoveries and advances are occurring every day. Medical treatments and understanding of the human anatomy have come a long way. Though if it weren’t for certain Anatomists, we may have not have had the right comprehension of the human body which could have led to errors in surgery and more deaths while treating patients. The Renaissance period was a time where Anatomists searched for clearer understanding of the human body. During the Renaissance period, Anatomists questioning and experimentation led to great discoveries of the human body.
It is said that the academics of Leonardo’s time did not take into consideration his work in any other field than painting, because he did not have a formal education. Instead he had developed an important attitude at a young age towards his critics, where he wrote “I cannot quote from eminent authors as they can, these trumpeters and reciters of the works of others. I know that all knowledge is vain and full of error when it is not born of experience, and so experience will be my mistress”. Leonardo da Vinci was a mysterious man who most definitely left his impact on the world, his time and modern time.
